I was doing a background check and got basic information for $14.95 but it was not accurate based on my knowledge of the person. I paid $19.95 extra for more detailed information based on their promotion of unlocking more public records hoping the information would be clarified with more details. When the extra report was finished and I opened it up it had the same exact information in it that the basic report had - nothing more, nothing less. I called Spokeo and asked for refunds because both reports had obvious errors in them based on my knowledge of the person. Spokeo gave me the $14.95 refund but refused to give me the $19.95 refund because the customer service representative said "the report had information in it so we don't give refunds on that level." I said "even though the information was the same and wrong?" He said "yes." Spokeo is a scam. Don't use them.Spokeo, Inc. Response

Strange response. Looks like a form letter with typos. My only other suggestion to people is to check yourself or someone you know BEFORE you get scammed into paying for additional information. Then you will know if you are being scammedReview from Carl I

This is definitely a scam that this business needs to be shut down and sued. I have my account not active for while now and its still charging my account ***** a month cause of 0.95$ I also have the statements to prove this. I just need refund. Also I see everyone comments and spokeo says the same thing to each customer. Definitely a scam it doesnt even say about the *****$ renewal for every month. And please spokeo dont comment I can see you saying the same thing to everyone who complains. You deserve to be sued and shut down period this very bad business.Spokeo, Inc. Response

reviewed before I purchased. I only someone's email address to submit some important information. The next day I checked my financial account and discovered that I had two charges ($19.95 and $29.85). I am elderly and not computer literate. Apparently, I also ordered an enhanced search by mistake. I asked for a cancellation of both charges. I was told by ******* (customer **** that she could not provide a refund of the $19.95 and that I would only get a refund of $11.00 to be deducted from the enhanced portion. Therefore, I am being charged. That means that I am being charged $38.80 for an email address. SPOKEO IS A SCAM AND TAKES ADVANTAGE OF THE ELDERLY. If I could give Spokeo a double zero, I could. SCAM and BAIT AND SWITCH If I could give it a 0 rating I would. The $0.95 one time search produced information that was more than 5 years outdated and no longer applied to the person I was searching for. This one time search automatically reverts to $29.95/month automatic charge. It took 2 phone calls and 2 days to get this canceled. I won't ever use this service againSpokeo, Inc. Response

I just found out Ive been charge by this company when I was searching for my aunt. The site offered to reveal the information for $0.95, I would have been a happy customer that returned every now and then to use the Spokeo service. Unfortunately it didn't end here. it appears Spokeo used the $0.95 transaction to setup a recurring $24.95 monthly payment that started 7 days after my original purchase. In other words, they were providing me the record I sought for $0.95 in return for a 7 day trial of their $24.95 per month service. The only problems were: 1) they never mentioned this was a 7 day trial for a full subscription, 2) they never sought permission from me to setup a recurring transaction for the past 2 years. I got a recurring payments from my debit card. I disputed the transaction from ******* and gave me a provisional credit while investigating the fraud. This practice seems at a minimum to be deceptive, and quite possibly is illegal for the ********, ********** based company. they didn't let me know I needed to cancel if I didn't want to be charged for the full subscription. This company is the worst ever. I only authorize 1 time for .95 cent with my Venmo account, but afterward it automatically charged me ***** then *****. When I called them they didnt even help me and didnt even give me back my money, instead told me to dispute with Venmo. I explained to them that ***** said they couldnt get my money back and denied my disputes, they said I can cancel the automatic withdrawal with Venmo but that is it. Please keep in mind that we currently only support names, phone numbers, and addresses in *****************. However, our email and username search is universal and covers all publicly accessible profiles on social networks supported by our system, including international social media profiles. Furthermore, additional search types and features, such as Court Records, Historical Records, PDF downloads, and increased search quotas are available for additional charges in addition to your base service.
Upon review, it appears that a trial service for $0.95 was initially selected and since it was not disabled, it acrued a charge of $29.95 on it's renewal date. Also, an additional background report was purchased for $19.95. I can confirm that this subscription has already been disabled back on November 5, 2024. I search for "Find a phone number for FREE" and I end up with Spokeo, Inc. and find out that the search is not free. I'm sick of finding most everything on the internet is a scam. Something should be done about these sites that lure unsuspecting searchers to a site by saying "for free", when there is nothing free about the site at all.Spokeo, Inc. Response
