***** ******* ************************************************************ ************************ ************ March 7, 2025 Better Business Bureau Subject: Formal Complaint Against Sunburst Shutters for Poor Communication, Delayed Delivery, and Lack of Transparency Dear Better Business Bureau, I am writing to formally file a complaint against Sunburst Shutters for their unprofessional conduct, lack of communication, and failure to deliver services as promised. I have been experiencing significant issues with their customer service, pricing transparency, and overall reliability, which has left me deeply dissatisfied as a customer. On 12/31/2024, I placed an order for custom shutters with Sunburst Shutters, represented by **** . At the time of the order, **** assured me that the shutters would be delivered and installed within a reasonable timeframe. However, it has now been over 10 weeks, and I have yet to receive my shutters or any meaningful update on the status of my order. Throughout this process, Sunburst Shutters has failed to communicate effectively. Despite multiple attempts to contact **** and the company via phone and email, I have received no response or explanation for the delay. This lack of communication is unacceptable and has left me feeling ignored and frustrated as a paying customer. Additionally, I was not provided with a clear or accurate explanation of their pricing structure. The final invoice included unexpected charges that were not discussed during the initial consultation. This lack of transparency has further eroded my trust in the company. To date, Sunburst Shutters has not completed the job I paid for, nor have they provided a revised timeline or resolution. Over the past few months (since June 2024), we've been working with this company to install plantation shutters in our home. We initially placed an order for $9,000 to have shutters installed in 75% of the house, with the promise that the job would be completed within 6-10 weeks. Once that timeframe passed, we began reaching out for updates. Weeks went by with no communication. Eventually, we made contact and scheduled an installation, but the scheduled day came and went with no installation. This cycle of scheduling and cancellations continued for several more weeks.Finally, the installers arrived to complete the job, but two of the shutters we had already paid for were damaged. They told us they would reorder them and expedite the process. At that point, we decided to go ahead and have the remaining shutters installed, as we were assured they could be rushed as well. They took our payment, and since thendespite it being Octoberwe havent heard anything from them. Now, in March, **** been trying to reach the company for weeks with no response and no updates of any kind. We are into this home project about $13,000 and the job is half completed after 9 months.Initial Complaint

I attended a Home Show in **** the end of April 2024. I stopped by a booth for Sunburst Shutters as I was interested in an Open Bypass Sliding Door Shutter. I spoke with the owner of the company, **** ******** as well as the area Representative, **** ******* and gave them my contact information to schedule an appointment. They both came over on April 2nd, 2024, and I placed my order at this time. The bill came to $1695.00 and they requested a $1000 deposit which I wrote a personal check for (Attachment #2). They said I should have my order in 6-8 weeks. They said I would receive an invoice as well as a receipt for my deposit the following day. Nothing ever came. After 8 weeks (May 28th) I called the office and left a message. **** ******** the owner called me back and said my shutters would be in the following week and someone would be calling to set up an appointment. No one ever called. I called again and was again told by **** that my shutters would be in the following week and someone should call me to set up an appointment for installation. Again no one called or came over. This is where my emails start (attached). This company has been giving me the run around since April. Very unprofessional business.Initial Complaint

I paid $6,000 on 7/27/24 for shutters from Sunburst Shutters **********, paid directly to the owner of the business **** ********. **** indicated it would **** *-8 weeks for the install. On September 4th I reached out to **** to see how close the install would be so I could plan to be home for it. **** told me that his crew would come out on Thursday 9/19/24. I took the day off work and then early in the morning on 9/19/24 I received a text message from **** indicating that his crew could install the following week, so they would not be coming on 9/19/24. **** called me and apologized and said it was his fault. He offered me a $1,000 rebate and a reschedule for 9/30/24. Then on 9/30/24, no one showed up. I contacted **** and he indicated he had no excuse this time. He offered me a $1,500 rebate and a reschedule, but I declined and asked for a refund. **** said he would be in the office on 10/1/24 to process the refund. As of the end of the day on 10/1/24 **** has been unresponsive to text messages and unresponsive on the phone.Initial Complaint

I wrote a check as a deposit for goods and services (plantation shutters for our home) on May 3rd, 2024. As of September 16th, 2024, we have not received our shutters and the owner, **** ********, has lied and deceived us that we would cancel the transaction and he would refund our $4000 deposit. Ordered 4 new shutters and a barn door on November 16, 2023, with an installation date of 6 weeks. As of today, July 16 2023, it has been over 6 months. As per the contract I signed, I paid $4845.00 at the time of signing ( my fault for paying the full amount up front). Since signing the contract, I have been promised multiple delivery dates but each time no one shows up for the installation and there is no notification as to why no one showed up for the installation. I have spoken to and exchanged text messages with the owner, *************************** numerous times during this time period after each installation date was missed. He has given me numerous excuses indicating they don't install when raining or that the product has been damaged, or that the product has been shipped to the wrong location. As recently as June 26, 2024, ********************** promised to issue me a refund check but as of today, July 23, 2024, I have not received one.Initial Complaint

On February 7, 2024. I made a purchase of shutters from Sunburst Shutters and Window Fashions to be installed on April 6, 2024. In late February/early March, I contacted ******************** explaining that I had purchased windows and how should we proceed. ******************** informed me to contact him after the windows were installed. I sent him a text on May 22, 2024 stating we could move forward with the shutter installation. I received no response and sent follow up texts on June 04, 2024 and June 11, 2024. I received a text response on June 12, 2024 informing me that I was scheduled for installation on June 19, 2024. On June 19, I text ******************** in the morning to confirm my appointment that afternoon which was between 2:00 - 4:00. I was directed to the installer who indicated that the shutters had not arrived. I heard nothing back from ********************. I attempted to call him on July 3, 2024 and received no answer. I then sent him a text requesting a full refund and stating that I felt that I had no recourse other than to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and request a full refund. I immediately received a phone call from ******************** that lead to a very unpleasant conversation. An appointment for installation was scheduled for Saturday, July 13, 2024. As of the filing of this complaint, no one from Sunburst Shutters & Window Fashions has either contacted me or has showed up to install the shutters. I attempted to contact ******************** by phone and received no answer. At this point, I would like a full refund for the $4800.00 and return the one shutter that has imperfections in it for which they company also has not replaced. In April, ******************** contacted me regarding installation. I reminded him that I was having windows replaced. However, could I have two of the shutters installed that the windows were not being replaced. The installer showed up with one shutter. Ordered nine new shutters on August 23, 2023 (new shutters, remove/haul away old blinds/shutters, install new shutters) with completion date of 4-6 weeks. It will have been 9 weeks tomorrow, October 25, and I'm unable to get status of the shutters. I call, leave messages, and text but have received no status. I did speak with *************************/owner ************ on October 19, 2023. Ordered Sunburst shutters through *************************** on July 6, 2022. According to ****** the shutters have been picked up by Sunburst installers but ****** does not have any information on when these will be installed. I have tried contacting sunburst and also the installer 4-5 times and have yet to receive a call back. I would like to either know the status of these shutters and when they will be installed or get a full refund.
