I rented a vacation unit through the website VRBO. The rental was offered by My SD Rental. The stay was booked from December 30, 2021 through January 1, 2022 (2 nights). The entire rental was paid in full in advance of my arrival ($1,170.89) The breakdown is as follows:2 nights $632.50 Cleaning $99.00 Processing $18.09 Service Fee $104.00 Tax $66.41 Refundable deposit $250.00 Upon arrival at the unit, the entry code to the building was incorrect and we had to call My SD Rental to be buzzed in. Once inside, the unit I was to rent had a lockbox with metal key inside. There were 2 keys, and neither of them worked to unlock the unit. I contacted My SD Rental and after almost 30minutes on the phone, they stated they would try to get a hold of the maintenance person to let us in and call me back. No one ever called back. By 7pm, it was dark and we had to find shelter, so I had to book a nearby hotel room. They sent a text claiming there is no lockbox for the unit, yet I sent pictures. They then alleged that it was a code entry door, stating there are no keys for the unit. The next morning at 9:50AM I received an eerie text from My SD Rental stating: "Good morning. This is from your AIRbnb. Our maintenance guy needs to plug a new wifi device in your unit, it won't take more than 10 minutes. Could you please let him in? He will be there in an hour. Thank you." I am unsure why (a) a maintenance guy would need me to let them in the unit, they should have a key; (b) why would they need to plug in a wifi device AFTER I checked in? I never complained about wifi, mainly because I was unable to access the unit. They have several yelp! reviews claiming the same thing from others. I am now out $1,000 as they refuse to refund me, stating I "cancelled" beyond the free cancellation deadline. Please assist me in finding resolve. VRBO is also not doing anything about this.
