This review pertains to Consignment Classics Home Furnishings in Encintas, CA. My husband and I purchased an oil painting that had a tag next to it for $499. We asked for assistance to bring the painting down to look at it and confirm the price. A white-haired gentleman kindly brought the painting down and told us the price was, as stated on the tag next to the item, $499. He even asked for assistance from another lady behind the front counter who also came over to look at the painting and confirmed that it was indeed $499. We left the store to think about the purchase and came back approximately one hour later to purchase the painting. When we purchased the painting, the cashier asked us to bring her the tag (it was only about **** ft. from where the register was located). My husband brought her the tag that we were told earlier corresponded to the painting ($499). Five days later we received a call from ***** suggesting that we stole the painting by purposefully removing the wrong tag for $499 instead of the correct $999 tag. However, we never saw a tag for $999 in the vicinity of the painting (and doubt one even existed). She berated us, threatening that they had video surveillance and demanded that we pay the $500 difference or return the painting, otherwise a theft report would be filed againt us. We were stunned and taken aback, shocked that we were being treated as shoplifters. ***** claimed not to know who the man/lady were who helped us (although this too could have been easily verified on video surveillance). ***** was rude and threatening over the phone. We tried to resolve the issue through management but were handed back over to *****. We ended up returning the painting for a refund but will NEVER shop at this chain again despite having been customers of the various Consignment Classics locations. People should beware of this business, their practices, and terrible customer service.
