Thumbtack is horrible, I was charged 85 dollars for a lead I was forced to pay for, so them I went on the estimate that 3 other contractors went to and bid the job for 150 dollars and lost the bid....one of the contractors was there when I showed up, so I asked him what thumbtack charged him for the lead and he told me ****************************************************************************************** over 75% of what the job was worth for the lead ..but thumbtack actually made more money then the contractor who actually preformed the work....this platform is the ultimate scam....never again....run anyway fast if you r thinking about trying it out

Thumb tack is a horrible app/ company, they just takes your money, I didn't understand how it worked and they charged me for something I didn't want, I called and begged for my money back and they gave me a credit for a service I didn't understand/ won't use, don't waste your time it's a scam

I had a Thumbtack account for a number of months. I spent a considerable amount of time changing my settings back after the app or people within the company changed them. On three separate occasions they activated direct leads after I had deactivated them. Each time resulted in me getting charged for a lead I never solicited, never used, and never wanted. I was never able to find a pathway for disputing these charges, so I deactivated my account. A week after deactivating my account they charged me again for another direct lead I did not solicit in any way. If this company is not a scam, they certainly are not very proactive or even a moderately good deal for the contractors who use this service to get work. I highly suggest that if you are a contractor soliciting work, that you avoid this company at all costs. It will do nothing but cost you money, while rarely if ever enhancing your business.

A SCAM!!!! Please do not sign up. All They do is take your money.! I havent had a job yet and they stole $150 from me with potential leads. These customers cancelled the booking before I started the job. Thumbtak charges for a lead whether or not if the job gets cancelled. I cannot believe this app is still up and running without any legal action against them. They need to be shut down and put behind bars.! Biggest THIEVES.!!! Stay away!!!

I have used Thumbtack for about 10 years as a pro to offer guitar lessons and for hire for events as a musician. I USED to have quality experiences, got students from them that last for a while as well as a few decent gigs over the years.But the last few years (2-3?) I noticed a huge drop in the quality of the leads and the response, as well as a dramatic increase in the costs of leads. I have students that i teach online as well as locally, and they seem to not care if the lead is local or not. I have had on many occasions a potential lead indicate - whether through mindlessness or not understanding the interface - that they were open to ONLINE lessons, but when i follow up they let me know that they were looking for local (to them, not me) lessons. I have requested a refund for the lead (which usually is just short of $25 per lead, since the lead has indicated that they were never interested in online lessons. Thumbtack has usually not refunded me, though they used to occasionally. The only reason i didn't give it only 1 star is because i have in the sometimes gotten some good leads for students and gigs. That seems to be over. I have been denied multiple time for refunds on leads that I should have never been charged for, and the lead to hire ratio has been terrible - spending 100's of dollars for leads that never go anywhere.

I am so tired of contacting Thumbtack they refused multiple times to refund me my money when it costs $20 per direct lead. They are always saying a supervisor is not available they have funny customers who use this platform and then cancel on needing the service and then they won't give you the money back this service is a scam!

This company creates false leads and makes them "exact leads" so your automatically charged. When you call the numbers to contact the leads they go right to voice mail which is not setup. This has happened to me over and over. I deactivated my account then a week later received yet another direct leeds charge which they would not refund.

I'am an independent contractor and I use Thumbtack, the platform that competes with Task Rabbit and ***** Services among others...I want to denounce the deterioration of the platform, until last year it worked very well...you could receive many leads in a day and you could pay later, but now it is...dropping and charging!...and by the way they raised the rates to the contractors, they live off you...now they have new or more mercenary policies!...$$$$$.they raised the costs for each lead and by the way it seems that they have lost ground...you leave your profile active and days go by without dropping anything!..and as they see less income now they skip their own system configuration and you can drop leads that are not viable because of their distance. For example I set up my account to attend clients from *** ********************************************* other states and just by seeing them I already owe them...even if they don't serve me I am already owing them!

Similar experience to the massive amount of other negative reviews. Just like most lead generation platforms they seem to be just as illegitimate and have zero interest in helping customers or pros.
