This is about the ************************************* location in ********// Landlords use the bait and switch tactic I stayed at this apartment for 2 years while attending UCB. The Brick and Timber property managers, especially ***************************, decided to cut my lease early. I gave notice that I will have to leave December, as I am a fall graduate. They notified me 2 weeks before the spring semester ends that they will not allow this, and I will have to move out in July (5 months before I graduate) to make room for a new tenant. This shows me how greedy and careless Brick and Timber is towards their tenants. They care more about potential, future money than residents who have been loyal. ******* even had the audacity to say Best Regards at the end. It would have been better if the managers worked with me to find another room here, especially since I've been living in this complex for 2 years, but they did not. Even worse, they notified me after student housing with the school closed, so I am currently left struggling to find housing. This was a complete shock, as multiple Brick and Timber staff have shown gratitude that I stayed for so long, but this email just threw me under the bus. If I am unable to find housing before the next school year, I would love to thank ******* for his help! See you on the streets! I'M A 19 YEAR OLD STUDENT WHO IS NOW FACING HOMELESSNESS BECAUSE OF BRICK AND TIMBER. THEY TAKE ADVANTAGE OF COLLEGE STUDENTS The washer and dryers have been offline the entire 2 years that I have lived here. No matter how many times I've asked the managers or contacted the company to fix it, I've been met with no response. Packages will always be stolen in the lobby, so don't purchase anything too expensive. There is also a nasty insect issue which is visible in the rooms and hallways. The fire alarms go off constantly. I believe the record is about 5 times in one week, and often it is around 1am-5am.

Overlooked some of the worst renovations and maintenance ("mechanic" that stopped by said the broken dryer is "just how dryers are"). But shouldn't have. Lack of comms, utter incompetence, an online system which is terrible, possibly illegal rent increases, and after moving out added final bills that are questionable and when inquired further about them seems closer to fraud. I was fully moved out on their online system but their "internal ledger" showed I still owed apparently. Thought simpler to just pay anyway, when asking for a way to make my final utility payment online after moving out, instead of by sending in cash or check, they told me to pay it those ways or they'd "send you to collections and we can hit your credit score".

Rent: $4000/month for a 2b/1ba.Unbelievably dissatisfied with this company. We lived through 2023's coldest ******* without a functioning heater despite complaining several times. In ************* by civil code ******, it is against the law to have uninhabitable living conditions for more than ******************************** the bay window was broken and wouldn't be fixed for two months and there was no functioning shower head which took a week to fix by the resident manager. For months we complained about the heater situation. The heater would be temporarily fixed by the resident manager and then break again on its own a day later. New parts were never ordered by Brick+Timber. The unit's electric grid was so poorly wired that my roommate and I had to communicate about when to turn on our individual space heaters. If they were both on at the same time, the unit would lose all power. I was taught by the resident manager how to go under the entire building to reset our grid. Communication with Brick+Timber maintenance was absolutely abysmal. They do not respond to emails regularly and frequently miss scheduled calls. When we asked for rent credit for suffering through some of the coldest ********** ******* with utility bills hitting the sky from space heater costs, they gave ** a tiny fraction of what we asked for. Our only resolution we got was an early move out date without credit penalties. They couldn't even compensate ** the last month because they are so stingy. I hope the Better Business Bureau will be aware of this company's malpractices and mistreatment of residents.
