1 starI would leave a more detailed review, but the BBB site won't let me. It's been an ordeal. We've paid 36k for a solar roof that is not working to 50% capacity. Solar Union paid a subcontractor to do a very faulty install, and they won't return to fix it. The solar PV system has failed the city inspection. The city is now involved in trying to get them to return. We are a house with an electrical engineer, so we can clearly see the issues and the faulty installation, and so can the city inspectors. Solar Union is stonewalling us and refusing to acknowledge the issues. I would not use this company. There are lots of similar complaints, I don't know how they are still operating.Review fromBrian C

1 starWord of warning to all looking to install solar. Im sure Solar Union is like all the other companies, just trying to get you to install a system, but when things dont work out with PG&E, they leave you hanging out to dry and don't try to help you out. Make sure you read your contract carefully and that until your system is producing power to PG&E, you do not have to pay the remaining total. Reason being, Solar Union was happy to take all my money, but they didnt tell me that there was a chance that PG&E could come back after the installation was complete and tell us that we had to wait 6-9+ months before we could use the system because they would need to upgrade the transformer in our neighborhood. That would have been nice to know that could happen before I spent 30k on a system that is now useless until PG&E does the upgrade (I'm at over a year since the install and still waiting). They know it can happen and even told me it happens once in awhile, after it happened to me. And when this happens, the sales person is nonexistent and doesnt bother to help or call back. They could restring the system to make it work, but they want another 3K to do that. Dont even get me started on their Treasury that collects moneythey will send an invoice with interest on without sending the first invoice and tell you that you are late paying.Review fromAshley W

2 starsI am updating a recent review. After I wrote to SolarUnion again with little response I then posted my review on a couple platforms. They quickly contacted me after the reviews posted. We went over the situation again and they asked me what portion I would be willing to pay. I again told them nothing as I never approved any of the work and it felt like bait and switch. They finally agreed that I was not responsible for the charges. They did ask me to consider updating my review which I told them I would, with again, an honest experience.
I feel they had poor communication that was very frustrating and time consuming at times. The company took a lot longer to install the system then expected but I know there was a big rush for NEM 2.0 .The system itself was installed with no issue and seems to work fine. Most of the communication I had with the employees was polite enough even during the disagreement. I am not sure how to feel about this company and just really hope no other issues arise.
Slightly reduced original review: I contracted with Solar Union in March 2023. They said due to the rush to get NEM 2 status they skipped my site survey and went off pictures I provided to them. We contracted for a 10 panel string optimizer system as that was what fit for our budget. We already had 16 panel microinverter system from another company installed in 2019 but were told the two systems would not tie into together. I was asked to approve the design on March 28, 2023. They informed me they wanted to switch to a microinverter system , I replied "As long as the cost is the same the microinverters are fine to use" The actual site inspection occurred 3 days later. I was never informed of any other changes after the site inspection. The system was installed in October 2023 and all required payments were sent off and fell in line with our contract price. We did not get our permission to operate until January 2024. At that point the last payment was due but when they sent me my final invoice there was an additional charge of $3400 for "cost over run on main breaker and sub panel". I of course questioned these extra charges I had never been informed about. I never approved any changes outside of being told they wanted to switch the inverter type at no extra charge. They have stated I will not be able to get my warranties or my federal tax credit until they issue a final invoice.

1 starMy experience with the sales rep has been completely different than the account managers. The sales rep was responsive and always returned my calls. Solar union was to provide an annual energy report comparing the energy used to energy generated which I received the first two years. Fast forward, I have been trying to contact them for the same energy report for the last three years and have not received any callbacks or emails. The onus should not be placed on the customer for this extended amount of time for something that seems to be a normal protocol. Unsure why Solar Union have been so unresponsive especially when they market themselves as a Diamond Certified business. It seems like once they get your business, the customer service goes out the window! Has anyone else experienced this with Solar Union?Review fromAdán O

5 starsSolarUnion is really responsive and did a great job installing my residential (10 panel, no battery or main panel upgrade) solar system and Rivian ** charger. I was a bit late to the game, but they hustled for me to secure Nem 2.0. The city's inspection was a breeze, and I haven't had any issues (installed about 2 months ago). The ** charging is fast (25 mi/hr), and I really like being able to email and hear back quickly, often on weekends and around holidays. I also appreciated being able to pay with personal checks. Shout out to ***** and *****.Review fromMatt H

5 starsI recently had SolarUnion install a full solar system on my house this summer in order to secure Nem 2.0. Overall, I'm quite satisfied with the outcome. The transition to solar energy has been on my mind for a while, and SolarUnion made the process relatively smooth, despite a few minor delays. The installation team was professional and efficient, and they took care of all the technical aspects, leaving me with a hassle-free experience. I've already begun to see the benefits of my solar system, and I'm looking forward to the long-term savings and environmental impact it will bring. SolarUnion's service has given me the confidence that I've made a smart and sustainable choice for my home.Review fromJenny L

5 starsI am very satisfied with the work Solar Union has done. Because this is an expensive project, I informed Renzo (Co-owner) that I will not be able to take on this project if I cannot get ******* rebate for low-income family. He assured me that they will not start the project until I get approval from the city to get a rebate and put the condition on my contract, which gives me option to back out of the contract if I do not qualify for the rebate. Fortunately, I was qualified for the rebate and the whole entire team took care of everything from acquiring permits, installing solar panels, getting city inspections approved, and getting PTO (Permission to operate from PG&E) in a timely fashion. I would recommend anyone who is thinking about installing solar panels to consider Solar Union because they are very professional and willing to go above and beyond to answer any questions or request you may have in a timely manner.Review fromAmanda R

1 starI have never written a BBB review, but SolarUnion is the worst company I have ever worked with.In short, after nearly two years of not having finished their installation, they sneakily tried to send us an amendment to change the contract, to no longer include the work they didn't do.Then, they tried to charge us over $9K in late penalties for not having paid them for the work they did not do.Even for the work they did do, we had to continuously hound them or they will not fulfill. They have knowingly false advertising practices: After over 8 months of waiting for a battery, I had the idea to call the sales team to see what time frame they were quoting for work (still 2 weeks!). I called the project team and told them that I was going to file a claim for false advertising. Suddenly my battery appeared. Worst of all, their work was shoddy and dangerous, and they are refusing to fix.Stay away.Review fromPeter H

1 star***** * Is spot on. Installed system in December with battery in January. The installer said he had no experience with the battery in December and had to be certified. so he waited until January. The battery was supposedly set (per Solar Union staff) to discharge when no generating occurred. It does not work. Solar Union blames the inverter company, but the inverter company says Solar Union failed to wire things correctly. I believe the manufacturer as when I talked to them they were knowledgeable and helpful. Solar Union keeps stalling by saying they are waiting on the manufacturer. But I got through and got solide answers.Review fromJulius B

5 starsBreath of Fresh Air Ive had a lot of trouble working with most home improvement companies in *************. But working with SolarUnion was a breath of fresh air. They are very knowledgeable, patient and professional. I always recommend them to everyone who asks me for a reliable solar company. They use the best products and warranties available. Ive had the system for a few years now and have had no problems. Also, even after a few years, any time you call the 800 customer support line, they are very helpful and answer any questions I have.
