I had major problems driving my car to Santa Barbara from San Francisco on February 29, 2024. I barely made it into Santa Barbara after the car repeatedly stopped on the highway and had to be restarted. I left the car at Coastal Chevrolet. They said that they had repaired the car several days later and I picked it up and paid them $2200 for their work. A few days after that I headed back north. I got as far as the Gaviota Pass and then the VERY SAME problem occurred again. I had to be towed to a Chevrolet dealer in Santa Ynez. They were busy that day and I had to rent a motel room for the night. The next day that dealer told me that I would need a new transmission-for $6,300. I threw in the towel and realized I had to sell the car (for peanuts, of course) and rent a car to get home (another big expense). I am an 85-year-old retired man with a limited income and this was all very traumatic for me. I called the Coastal Chevrolet people and told them what had happened. They told me to return the car to them. I said absolutely not--I was exhausted and wanted desperately to get home. I assumed they meant the towing would be at my expense--they never said otherwise. I could not visualize either my returning to Santa Barbara at that time or later. When I got back to San Francisco, I contacted them again and begged them to return all or at least a part of the $2200, since they obviously had NOT repaired my car. And that in turn had put me in great danger on the highway. And I had many, many other unexpected expenses. They refused, saying I should have returned the car to them. I explained that I had been in crisis and literally could not think of any further actions at that moment. The fact remains that they did NOT repair my car! Despite my pleas, they have refunded nothing-not a cent. I find this deeply unfair and immoral.
