I called to get our garage door repaired! It was cracked across the top due to inadvertently closing on a vehicle. Therefore would fold when trying to Open ! The existing door was used and did not need to purchase a new door. Upon first contact I was quoted about $3300 usd , which I thought was extreme for a few pieces of reinforced metal to strengthen the crack, then was told I needed a new garage door opener! So then as you can see the charges are extremely over done with a very poor explanation on work order hardly readable and zero details!I requested the work order months ago and finally received a copy of it 2 days ago! Obviously completed after the fact? Heavy duty mechanical repair $2500?Then heavy duty something for another $1000 (opener?) , plus another $700 for parts of the opener which ends up being $1700 for a garage door opener that Id probably about at most a third of the cost! It looks like approximately $1300 labour for at most 4/5 hrs labour! As you can see on the pic the agreement was stroked out, Ive never seen the agreement until 2 days ago, and never initialed anything. I left the worker a $1000 usd deposit as on the work order! Im not in the habit of paying bills without seeing the costs etc and find these very extreme. The only thing that needed to be done was to put reinforced supports across the top to prevent the door from buckling, Ill include pics of the starting issue! As far as Im concerned the $1000 usd deposit can be kept by the company, for services rendered but Im not wanting or likely to pay such extreme charges that were not agreed to prior to the additional costs.Thank you in advance for dealing with my issue!***** ********Customer Answer

I recently called Melikson Garage Door because my opener stopped working. They sent someone out the same day for a free consultation. They advised that the opener was really old and was better to be replaced and I agreed. They Quoted me 950 but went down to 850 since when I showed them a $99 discount coupon on the website for new installations. He installed the opener and much like other complaints here said its cheaper with cash or Zelle. So when I Zelled it the invoice was another company name Elite Garage Door which seemed strange so I decided to dig little deeper into the invoice and thats when I realized that I was charged $450 for a $250 opener ( 3/4 HP Smart Quiet Belt Drive Garage Door Opener) easily found for 249 or less at any local Lowes, Homedepot, Amazon even Door Dash and on top of that they added a separate charge of $125 for the drive belt which already comes included in the box with the opener when purchased. They also charged me $275 for roughly an hour of labor. So essentially I was charged ****** for the installation of a $250 garage door opener. I called them to address this and was advised that a member of management will be in touch. Instead I got a call back from the installation tech who tried to defend as to why he was charged so much. I guess he realized that I wasn't falling for anything he eventually said that he will call " the company" and they will probably just issue the refund. I told him that I would be waiting however I have not heard anything since. Overcharging customers like this is unacceptable especially extra for parts that come included in the first place.Customer Answer

A technician came out to give a quote. He said, h*** have to remove the coil to give a quote. I said, no. Tell it to me how much or leave. *** had other companies just measure the size. So, discussed size and price. I have carriage doors ( all wood ). So he quoted 600 , I said , $450. So we agreed on the job and coil size. He said. He had them on his truck. I went back into the house. Once finished he had installed smaller coils. So, I asked him didnt we discuss the size of the coils He kept saying they will hold. In the back of my mind Im thinking nope. I wrote a check for $450. Once my husband got home and saw the coils he said the same . This might not hold. I said, stop payment and let them fix the problem. But, I happen to run across BBB and read the same type issue occurred. Nope , Once the technician arrived to fix the problem I said, take the coils down and get out my garage . He said , why . My response was you lied and didnt do the job as discussed. Im done. He didnt want to leave based on a receipt he gave me. My husband took it with him. I said, get out or I will call the police. This transaction is null & void anyway.Business Response

My garage door opener failed during a very cold period with a snow storm. I needed urgent assistance since as a senior citizen(age 73) I was unable to lift the door. I did internet research and found M&S garage door which advertised as doing immediate service. I called ************ and was told would be out. Tech called next morning from ************ and stated would be able to repair in late afternoon. I requested estimate but stated he could not give one until looked at job. When he arrived said my garage door motor was too old to repair and needed new one. It is a small single garage door for condo but he stated I need bigger motor with 1/2 *********** opener. I asked for written estimate but he said was unable to give one and verbally said the motor and istallation would be $1800. This seemed high since unit sells at ********** for $199 but said it included labor and new tract etc. At the completion of the job he gave me a bill for $3448.65 which was $1648.65 more than the original verbal estimate. The bill included highly overpriced items for parts that are included in the motor kit such as the 2 remote control units $158.00 and unexplained " service fee" of ******. I researched this company which also does business as Melikson Garage Door Repair and found numerous complaints to Better Business Bureau with essentially the exact same complaints about this company. A small garage door opener replacement should be less than $1500. This company is a predatory internet scam operation that targets seniors. A refund of $1648.65 is requested since I did verbally agree to the original estimate of $1800.Business Response

On January 5, 2025, our garage torsion spring broke. It was one of two springs for a double-stall garage. We called Melikson Garage Door for a free quote. ****, their tech, arrived around 1 PM and said he needed to remove the spring to measure it for a quote. About 15 minutes later, he said both springs needed replacement and recommended new rollers. He verbally quoted $840. I knew this was high but agreed since he had dismantled the door, leaving it unusable. After 45 minutes, **** finished and presented an invoice from "Precisions Garage Door" for $1,219.80. I objected, but he claimed $840 was just for parts and didnt include labor or taxes. He called his office and offered a $50 discount. With no choice, I paid $1,164.80. I would never have agreed to the work if I knew the full cost. When I asked to pay by credit card, **** said there was a 3.5% fee and directed me to pay via Zelle to "Five Star," a third business name. He took a picture of my payment. **** also pushed me to leave a 5-star review, scanning a code on his phone and taking a photo of my draft review, which I didnt submit as I suspected things were not right.Researching later, I found numerous complaints about similar deceptive practices. It appears Melikson is a front to obscure negative reviews about Five Star and others. They trap consumers with misleading quotes, leaving no option but to pay. I am requesting a refund of $324.80, the difference between the agreed $840 and the $1,164.80 charged.Business Response

Melikson is Not deceptive, we forwarded your call to 5 star and they refunded you as we asked from them.

I called them out there because my garage door wasnt working. He got it working and said he couldnt promise it would keep working after he left. I know the garage door was old and I agreed to have the motor replaced. He said the cost would be $1800. When I got the bill after work was done it was$2229. He didnt note that he checked anything else and I have come to find out I was overcharged and lied to about the cost for a motor. He said the cost for a regular motor was 1400 and the cost for a super motor was 1800 and he would recommend the super motor for my larger garage door, which is only a two car garage. I asked if they accepted checks in case they charged more for using my credit card and he said they did charge more using credit cards and they did accept checks. I wrote him a check. I expressed clearly that I wasnt happy he told me it was $1800 and now Im paying 2229. I called their office, concerned about writing a check and making sure my information was safe and she told me they dont even accept checks. This is even more concerning because of the change in price. I expressed this to the person answering the phone and she said it must be tax but it was clearly more than that. I.want my check canceled and I Wii pay by credit card the amount I was quoted, even though I still think that isnt overcharged by this company. ****** learned, but they should not be able to get away with this. After this misinformation, I am concerned about the safety of my bank information as well.Business Response

I needed a garage door repair in *****. I filled out a form on the Melikson Garage Door website which claimed they are a national company. 10 mins later someone called to set the appointment and 2 men came out that day. They SEVERELY overcharged me for a repair that took them less than an hour and claimed they fixed it and serviced the door. An hour after they left, the same problem occurred. They fixed NOTHING. When I called to complain, I was told they are NOT Melikson, they are KM Garage Door. At no time did anyone say they were a subcontractor. ** has other identical complaints on this BBB site which tells me KM is a fraud. ** is a ghost company.....they have no address and no names on their business cards, website or receipts. However, I traced them to a ********** ***** and I will be going after him personally. Melikson is equally to blame if they are subbing out work to others for a fee and failing to disclose that it is not Melikson doing the repair. They are also well aware KM is a fraud and they continue to send them business. I am owed a refund from KM Garage Door and an apology from Melikson. I wrote a bad review on Melikson on **** and they got it taken down, claiming they have nothing to do with this subcontractor. That's a lie. There is no other Melikson that I can find. Sorry Melikson.....if you play bait and switch on your website you are every bit as much to blame and you deserve the bad reviews and the lawsuit I will file. You can't hide behind "it's not us" when you subbed out the work and never advised the customer.Business Response

On Oct 28, 2024 I searched online on behalf of my stepfather who is 90 to find a local garage door repair as his was broken. Several appeared so I checked ratings and then any offers they may have. ********* has a strong rating and had several offers. They had ************* as number and offered online scheduling which I selected. I told my stepfather to tell them about coupon offered of 10% off with free service call when they arrived. I found out the next day that my stepfather was taken advantage of and it was false advertising. Melkinson is not in ********** and they hired a sub who came to do repair. They totally took advantage of his age and charged ******* for replacing and installing the unit and springs. When he mentioned the coupon, they said it was included in price. I am unsure of sub as the receipt that they did not want to give him as well as wanting check to be made out to the installer which he would not do - did not match. The receipt has Garage ************* with a ************ number but check was made to A1 Garage ******************* (that is what he has written in his checkbook). I cannot find this company in ********** only A1 Garage Door Repair. Bottom line - Melikson Garage Door Repair was who I hired. The unit installed was a ********** ($200 at *********** not ****** charged. The inflated list goes on. Springs $535, cable saftes ******, rails ******, cable *****, labor 650.8 (2 1/2 hr work). The handwriting on invoice is difficult to decipher. In addition they gave a 5 yr warranty but we have no idea who is backing this warranty.I would like my stepfather to (1) be reimbursed for any costs that were inflated and coupon not applied (2) determine who warranty is held by (3) Remove Melikson from listing as local Charleston business. He should definitely pay for a fair and reasonable repair charge but not one that is gouging and in my opinion taking advantage of the elderlyBusiness Response

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me. They contacted their Sub, AL ************* (not A1) who immediately contacted me. After discussions, the owner reviewed the invoice and provided a partial refund as it appeared my stepfather was inadvertently charged double labor rates. I appreciated their time and willingness to resolve this matter. As previously stated, AL did a great job in the installation.I appreciate BBB's assistance in getting me in touch with the correct people.

On June 17, 2024 my garage door opener did not work and I was unable to open the garage using the emergency garage door opener. I contacted a company listed on the Internet as California Garage ***************** (see attached internet listing) at ************ as two local companies were unavailable to respond.A technician named *** handled the repair. His cell number is ************. Initially he quoted me $375 for labor and $1,350 for heavy duty springs. When I asked him for an estimated total cost, he indicated that the only other costs would be for parts. I inquired at least 2-3 times and got the same answer,When he competed the work approximately 90 minutes later than initially quoted, the garage door was able to be opened but the garage door opener was not working. *** indicated that the garage door opener needed to be replaced as the emergency opener had been bent in the process of attempting to use it.I agreed to have him replace the garage door opener with a Lift Master product. I do not recall him providing me with an estimate.I had a guest who was leaving the next day and we left to handle an errand. When I returned, *** provided me with a receipt from a company named Garage ************ at ********************** (attached), but he indicated that he was working for a company named Melikson Garage Door at ************. The receipt was for a total of $8,550. The actual payment went to a company named Garage and Gates at ************* Job reference # ****R (see attached).I called my credit card company the next day as the cost for the parts and the garage door opener seemed excessive. I tried to try to stop payment, but they indicated the payment had already gone through.I WILL E-MAIL THE REST OF THIS STATEMENTBusiness Response

We contacted the company regarding our garage door not closing properly. A tech quickly came out to inspect and changed out the motor and sensors on our door, while charging us $950 for a motor that is only $150 at the store. Later in the day we noticed that the tech put the safety sensors on the top of the motor which is on the roof of the garage. We notified the company that this is not acceptable as we have small children that can be crushed by the door, and for the EXCESSIVE price we paid that this needs to be fixed. We have not heard from the company and they will not answer the phone. We either want a refund and our equipment back or a reasonable refund and we will fix it ourselves.Business Response
