I purchased a second hand guitar from a private seller in ****** that was built by the luthier and builder ***********************, located in **********. There were a couple issues I wanted addressed. I had come to learn that *********************** was still operating his business under the radar as I was under the impression that he had retired from guitar making. The work that needed to be done was as following: fret removal, neck sanding and removal of finish, re-finish the neck, and replace the frets. I paid $500 for this repair which seemed like a fair price in todays market. after. I received the guitar back at my home here in ****** upon completion. Upon inspection, I noticed that there was lacquer overspray all over the body. When a part of a guitar is refinished or resprayed, all of the other parts are masked off and covered so overspray does not get on those parts. This was poorly done as there was over spray all over the body. Second, when a guitars frets are replaced, they must be leveled and re-crowned in order to ensure good playability. This was not done. There was quite a bit of unevenness with the lower frets making the playability of the guitar very poor. Last, the nut (the piece in which the strings sit in at the headstock) was cut far too low causing the strings to buzz horribly. I was frequently corresponding with ****'s son ***** who was heavily involved with the business. I decided to eventually express my concerns with these repairs to him as well as his dad **** via email. I was told he would speak to his dad regarding these issues. **** eventually responded via email in a very snarky manner. I expressed what would rectify the situation but I have yet to see any money returned. I know they are actively ignoring me for a fact as a friend of mine wanted to get in touch with them regarding his own guitar and they have been corresponding with him since this incident. I have followed up multiple times with both of them and it's been nothing but radio silence.
