I was in contact with Student Prep Center in May 2021. I made 4 payments, each in the amount of $195.00 on 5/28/2021, 6/28/2021, 7/28/2021 and 8/28/2021. I was told in communication with my agent ****** S Agent# ****** that after my payments were complete my loan would be forgiven. This was the amount I had to pay in order to CLEAR my loans. There was never mention of placing me in a program. The reason I didnt make a complaint sooner is because honestly I didnt think about it until this month because I am enrolled in college again and noticed I still had outstanding loans. I want my money back because now I cannot reach anyone at the 2 numbers provided to get additional information and I feel like I was given false information and led to believe this was something it wasnt.Initial Complaint

The Student Prep Center called me in August 2020 to forgive a loan, however this is a scam. I paid $720.00 over 4-month installments of $180.00 to consolidate my loan when consolidation is free, I was scammed! They took my FSA login and password and consolidated the loan. They allegedly enrolled me into the loan forgiveness program, with a term of 2 years and loan repayment of $10.00 per month. I gave my credit card and the charges started at $180.00. After they called me and said that new COVID law froze payments, so no $10.00 payment to government for the loan, and that my loan will forgiven. I did not sign any contracts or received related mail. Recently, I received the statement from the government that loan is active. I tried to call and email Student Prep Center, however their contacts were deactivated and phones disconnected. Its too late to dispute charges with a bank. Please be careful of scammers.Initial Complaint

I got scam by the company Student Prep Center. I received a call from a person name *****, claiming he works on forgiveness loans, nevertheless he can settle for my $6,781 student loan to be forgiven and cleared out my credit by making four payments of $180.00 a total of $720 to the company Student Prep Center. First payment i made was in 11/26/2021. Second payment on 12/26/2021, third 01/26/22 and last one on 02/26/2022. Since I comply with all my payments I then checked if the total amount on my credit cleared, did not. I thought maybe it takes a little longer. Months pass and nothing. So, I then try to give the company a call and the ***** number listed is disconnected. I then called Marcos; ***** is no longer in service. I started speculating I got scammed. I go ahead and ****** the company Student Prep Center and what you know, I read in the reviews there's more victims that got scammed. My motive in filling this complaint is make people be cautious of this company and most importantly to get a refund of the total $720 I ignorantly paid to the Student Prep Center company. That money was taken from me wickedly. Is hard earn money I made.Initial Complaint

I'm wondering if I got scammed. I signed on for the forgiveness program through student prep center and made the 6 payments for enrollment and was approved. I have been calling in every year to reup and have been told due to Covid I would not have to reup till January 2023. So today I called and the phone number is disconnected and the website is down. How am I supposed to reup if I cant get ahold of anyone. And if I am unable to get ahold of anyone then the money I put into it should be refunded so I can actually put it towards my loan.Initial Complaint

I was contacted by ************************* and student prep center, via email. She informed me that I was approved for a student loan consolidation. I wrote them a check for $225 for the "fees of consolidation." After the check cleared I wasn't able to get in touch with ******* or the Student Prep center and I figured I got scammed and would move on. They continued to take $195 dollars out of my account for 6 months and I didn't notice. I just disputed the charges with my bank but since the first charge was from August of 2021 I will most likely not get my money back. The phone numbers, emails and website for the business are now shut down, or no longer in service. They have taken almost $800 from me and my Federal Loan servicing company has never heard of them, and their is no consolidation on record. There is no contact information available for this company now, total scam.Business response

Hello ******,
After thoroughly reviewing your complaint and your account. There is no record that we ever took $225 specially through a check since out company does not accept checks. In addition you signed an agreement that clearly listed that you agreed upon 4 payments of $195 and you even selected the payment dates as well. You signed up for the program with ************************* 08/09/2021 at 9:35 AM PST and Spoke to your assigned processor 08/18/2021 at 10:59 Am who welcomed you into the program and provided you with her direct Contact information. You then called ************************* 11/05/2021 at 9:48 Am to reschedule your $195 payments for 11/05/2021, 12/05,2021 and 01/05/2022. Per your Complaint you are stating we continue taking a $195 payment for 6 months that is completely FALSE please show PROOF that we in fact took 6 month worth of payments. On 12/28/2021 your assigned processor sent you an email with an update at 12/28/2021 and lastly left you a Voice mail and sent you an email with your final approval details back in 02/26/2022 10:54 AM PST. If we were a scam would we have actually delivered what was promised? Please refer back to your emails to go over the approval information we sent you.

Student Prep Center reached out to me fall 2020 that I qualified for their student loan forgiveness program. I paid 4 payments of $180 between September 14, 2020 to December 14, 2020. Total fees $720. They told me this will only go towards processing my application documents and enrolling me into the federal program and once my loan period was completed, my loans would drop off. I have tried to contact multiple people at this "prep center" and have not heard anything back since 1/5/2021. There is simply no way of contacting them and the website no longer exits. I want my money back so bad. Not only do I still have my student debt, but I lost the $720 I gave to them and any personal information they now have on me. I had a gut feeling this when they originally reached out. At the time I was jobless and in so much debit trying to figure it all out after college. This is a scam and they are stealing from hard working US citizens.Business response

Hello ******,
You have said it yourself " I paid 4 payments of $180 between September 14, 2020 to December 14, 2020. Total fees $720. They told me this will only go towards processing my application documents and enrolling me into the federal program and once my loan period was completed, my loans would drop off". This is exactly how the program works, we have been straight forward with you since the beginning letting you know the fee's you have paid are for the enrollment into the program and explained that once you complete the program your loans will fall off of your records. We are not sure how exactly we scammed you. If you are still reflecting your loan balance is because you are not done with your loan term. In addition it looks like after your approval update you continued to email your assigned processor with questions you had along the way and your processor was quick to always respond to your emails with answers to your questions. We are sorry you feel like this is a scam but I guarantee the last thing we did was scam you. Our company has 100% rendered services to you correctly and efficiently. At this time we consider this complaint closed due to the services being provided and amount of time we have put into assisting client after she was approved.

Then why can I not contact anyone, the emails all get sent back to me and the website is no longer existent? Why is there no record besides what your "company" has told me about me being enrolled in this program? How long will my loan term last for? These are things I need answers to in order to move on and plan for my future financially. It really doesn't make sense to say my loans will fall off at the end of my loan term without knowing how long the loan term could even be. Am I going to be sitting here ranking up more debit once the interest rates start back up? I am a hard working individual trying to figure out and plan for my future financially and figuring out my loans is a major factor. The biggest red flag that leads me to believe this is a scam is that the website 404s and I cannot reach my processors via email or phone. Please explain that and provide clarity if this is really not a scam. ThanksBusiness response

Hi! I was contacted by the Student Prep Center and enrolled into a program in January 2022. I made 4 payments of $180 to be enrolled into a loan forgiveness program. I just spoke with Federal Student ********** to discuss the program I was suppose to be enrolled in and the representative notified me that I am not in any forgiveness program. I tried to call Student Prep Center but number isnt working. I tried to go to their website but it is no longer coming up and get message Safari cant open site because the server can't be found. I would like a refund for the service that was not provided as I am not in any forgiveness program as they stated I would be enrolled into after I made my 4 payments. Payment dates are listed in the document attached.Business response

Hello *****,
You are approved for a forgiveness Program. It is the Revised Pay As You Earn, it's a term based program. You need to Recertify on a yearly basis and once you complete your loan term you will receive your forgiveness. If you go into your Servicer account and into your inbox you will find your approval letter. At this time we have already provided services and assisted you with the enrollment of your program there is nothing else that we can assist you with.
