I hired Infinity Tile Co (Lic: ******) to renovate my kitchen. *****************************, the contractor, asked for $1300 upfront, and I paid him on April 2, 2023, though the project wasn't starting anytime soon. We agreed that I'd get all the materials, and he'd do the work. He promised to send me the signed agreement, but he never did.The cabinets arrived on June 19th. I told ****************** on June 20th, and he said he could start on June 26th, and I agreed. On June 22nd, planning to get renovation permits, I found his license was suspended on the **** website. Texts between us from June 20th to 22nd confirm this. He acknowledged the suspension but didn't explain. Feeling uneasy about starting the project with a suspended license, I texted him on June 22nd, asking him to update me when the license issue was resolved. I wanted to start the project only when the license issue was sorted out.I also told him I was getting permits, but ***************** discouraged it. He insisted permits were unnecessary, and if I wanted permits, he'd charge much more than the original quote. Because of legal and safety concerns, I requested a cancellation and the return of my $1300. I thought I should have the choice to accept or reject the higher quote. After all, he was not going to honor the original agreement, but wanted a new one if I got permits. He never produced a new quote, and refused to refund the deposit.In the end, I hired another contractor who got permits and finished the renovation. During the work, I learned from the new contractor that I needed to upgrade the electrical panel to meet current codes. I'm unsure if ****************** knew and didn't tell me.
