On 9/25 I went to Dr. ****** for 30 min appointment for a very specific concern. My concern was dismissed and I was pressured into getting a $400 deep cleaning. The only thing about the procedure that was discussed was the cost. This an invasive procedure and can be extremely painful. I paid almost $300 out of pocket for ********, yet the procedure was so painful I could not help but yelp. It should not have been unbearably painful with all of that ********. Furthermore, Dr. ****** ignored all of my physical signals of pain. This was the most violating expedience I have ever had in a health care situation.Initial Complaint

My son had a cleaning and a cavity filled at Boulder Dental. They charged $318 for the cleaning and $158.40 for the filling. He paid them at the time of service and they were supposed to file a claim with Anthem, our insurance company. We should have received the money back from Boulder Dental when they received the insurance money. We never received a check. When I called Anthem, they told me that they sent two checks to Boulder Dental in the amounts of: Claim #******** for $162 Claim# ******** for $232.36 We never received any money back from Boulder Dental. I have called and emailed numerous times and the billing **** never answers calls or returns emails. This is criminal behavior to keep money that is meant to be sent to a client. I want them to send me the money owed to me.Initial Complaint

I was a new patient to Boulder Dental Center. When I called to make my initial appointment, I asked them to verify my insurance was accepted and covered all services they planned to render. I received a voicemail stating that I was covered in full. I came in for my visit and the dentist asked if I wanted a fluoride treatment. I asked her if that was covered by my insurance and she emphatically said yes. I also asked the hygienist if that was covered after the dentist left and she said yes as well. I received a bill in the mail for the fluoride treatment for $30 on Jan 27. Since I have received this bill, I've called or emailed the billing department everyday to ask for resolution and they do not return my calls. I'm asking them to remove this $30 charge from my account since the dentist said the fluoride treatment was covered.Initial Complaint

I called 2 months prior to my surgery to provide my insurance info so they can check and make sure this was covered and I was okay with paying my part the day of surgery. I was assured multiple times by office staff that my part was only $500, which I paid when I walked in, they sent me a bill for $500 a month and a half later. I called their office 30 times for the past 3 months and they were rude, hung up on me many times and **** the operations manager never got back with me. The dentist who performed my wisdom teeth extraction, refused to write me an electronic pain prescription the night of the surgery even though that was required by pharmacy. I was in pain until the next day. I have spoken to **** the operations manager on multiple occasions and he assured me the billing will be adjusted however he never calls back or does anything. People that answer phones are extremely rude. Now my bill is pass 90 days and I am worried about the issue with collections and the office is non responsive. They should be shut down for treating their clients this way and charging them when they assured me they wouldnt.Initial Complaint

This dental office uses abusive billing practices. I went in for a teeth cleaning early in 2022 and they suggested I get a filling, which their staff told me would be free with my insurance. After I went in the for filling a week later they told me the bill would be $200. I reminded them about the conversation we had about the insurance and they told me it they would look into it. I reminded them three times, all of which I have saved in email correspondence, without any responses. Four months later they reached out to have me pay $40, which I did, but they had a bill on my account for $816. I asked again that this would be covered by insurance and they confirmed. Now, another four months after that last conversation and my payment, they called me to pay the full amount, and did not even mention my prior payments. The person on the phone told me she would be sending my account to collections.Initial Complaint

Account # *******, $70 routine cleaning bill became $123.20 sent it to a collection company.Ive had a dental plan at Boulder Dental Center, ************** The $250 dental plan includes Routine Dental ********* limited to two cleaning per year. When I had one of routine dental cleaning:1)Their business staff didnt explain all fees prior to any treatment being performed. After the cleaning, they told me that I had no balance at the dental office, however I received a bill months later. I was charged $70 on one of the routine dental cleanings. They said this is my third one, so that I had to pay for it. I would have waited the routine cleaning until the next time if they explained in advance.2)They hired a collection company, but I didnt know about it until received a letter from them until October 31, 202. I was trying to speak to an office manager, but I was told that they werent available. I called them several times and drove to the dental office, but never be able to speak with them in person. I was in abroad in September-October 2019. When I came back, there were two letters from the dentist, so I drove there in order to speak in person, but I didnt have a chance at all. I left a message to staff to have the office manager to call me back, but it never happened.3)I called the dental office and the billing department and left voice messages, but they had never called me back. When I spoke to a current office manager on October 31st 2022, he said to me that Boulder Dental Center already sent this to the collection company, *********************** and that had nothing they could do. The office manager even said that because they already paid to the collection company for this matter, they dont want to drop it. I again asked the office manager if I could speak to ****************, the owner of the dentist, but the office manager denied, and said he was too busy. It seems as though they have no regard for their patients and are just trying to get as much money out of you.Customer Answer

There is an error in my billing. I do not owe $440. I received treatment for a dental guard under the impression that I only pay $110 and my insurance would cover the rest. This is what the receptionist had told me. I have proof of the treatment plan she printed for me on 2/9/2022. The dental guard takes 2 trips to complete. The first trip they measured my teeth in order to make the mold. This was when I paid $110. I believe the receptionist that told me my insurance would cover the rest is now fired (******). When I went back for the second trip to get the guard fitted, I had asked about a bill that came in the mail and she said not to worry about it because that is how you guys do billing where it goes out at the end of the month. Between jobs and moving I didn't worry about it until now when I saw that I had an appointment coming up. After speaking to the new receptionist (Aspen) and my insurance, now I know that my insurance doesn't cover dental guards unless it's after a surgery. ****** should have told me and printed the correct treatment plan. If I had known that my insurance didn't cover dental guards in February I never would've gotten it. I should have been informed of the correct treatment plan according to my insurance. Please remove the $440 I owe. I have attached photos of the bill I received and the treatment plan printed on 2/9. I would have never gotten the night guard knowing that my insurance wouldnt cover it. The receptionist didnt report the correct numbers when I began the service. I never had surgery beforehand and she knew that. I know that she was fired and I was never informed the correct informationInitial Complaint

I have dental insurance provided by Anthem, and Anthem hosts an online claim and payment center where I can check the claims and pay the covered bills. After I finished my deep cleaning, the front desk asked me to pay their **** on the spot - a $900+ surprise ****. They said they had already calculated and applied the insurance coverage on this ****, so this is what I absolutely have to pay right now.I was shocked and immediately felt something was wrong: Anthem had a very detailed document about dental coverage, laying out which parts they could cover and which parts they would not, but the **** provided by the front desk only has a single overall 20% coverage applied to it. Additionally, I should first by able to file a claim to Anthem, and having the claim and the **** be updated on their website afterward, instead of paying the **** on the spot.I told the front desk that I could not pay this amount before the insurance company updated my covered **** on their website; and the front desk threatened that if I could not pay the **** on the spot, it would be sent to the collectors. With my mouth still full of blood and pain, I was forced to pay $900+, without even having an option to file my claim first.********** webpage was updated a week later. I was right; Anthem's claim said they could cover more than a plain 20%, and I only need to pay about $500. I brought the Anthem claim with me, returned to the Boulder Dental Center, and questioned the front desk if I was overcharged. They admitted the fact and promised they would issue a refund.I waited for several months and did not receive any refund; so I went back again, asking for an answer. This time, the front desk lady changed her tone and insisted that the insurance company only paid them the 20%; thus they did nothing wrong charging me an 80% **** and would not refund anything.
