******* came with a stove (not the one discussed over the phone) asked me to help bring it in the house because "someone called off". I shouldn't have but I helped him. He asked for coffee. I brought him coffee. He asked for water. I brought him water. And again for fruit....I gave him fruit. Then he cut into our stone around our fireplace without asking. And for what???? It served no purpose. My husband came home and called him and asked why he brought the wrong stove and why he cut into our stone. He said he would fix the issue and then never got back to us. I paid him in full. Shame on me.... But Shame on him more. That's not how to run a business. He took us for $6500. HE admitted that the stove he put in for us was refurbished and cost $1500. Must be nice to get paid and not do what was agreed upon.Business Response

We completed the work . The homeowner admitted in her complaint that we installed the stove. She has a copy of the final invoice stating that the job was done. She signed it. Bogus complaint.Business Response

I am rejecting this response because: he came back to our house because we were unhappy with the work done, showed me everything he ordered to fix it and told me he'd let me know when the parts were in to come back and fix it. Just look at the picture of the stone. He cut into the whole stone surrounding the stove. He said he would fix it and never did. Go to Yelp.... You'll see nothing but the same comments from literally everyone. This guy shouldn't be in business. This guy shouldn't be taking money from people when he doesn't know what he's doing.

Late July 2023 or early August 2023. We got Anthony's Chimney Sweeps number from the BBB and contacted ******* to come clean/sweep our chimney. ******* inspected our chimney and told my wife and I we needed a new chimney liner (a long flexible 8" by 18 foot tube that is inserted inside our current flu/chimney), refectory panels and showed me the cracks, a new 18 inch cap, and a rebuild of our insert fireplace. I agreed. On August 11, 2023, ******* wrote up estimate including the cost of the flu cap, the 18 foot long 8 inch liner, the replacement fireproof panels, incuding labor. He marked the form with "Sold $2,275, Deposit $1,200." He also marked paid with our check number. We in fact paid him with our check. He said he would order the 8" diameter insert by 18 foot flu liner, panels, cap, etc and when it all came in, he would come and install it all. On September 29, 2023, ******* returned and started to install the 18 foot by 8 inch diameter flue liner. He stopped and turned to me and said that he decided we didn't need the liner, that he really just needed to rebuild the air jet tubes and spray a chemical up the flu that would remove the creosote. He said he would have his bookkeeper send us a check for $700 or $800 for the unneeded liner next Wednesday. He said he would take the rusted and damaged air jet tubes and have them rebuilt and would come back when they were refabricated and install them and remove the 8"diameter by 18 foot liner that he said was no longer needed. He did a great job of getting the air jet rack rebuilt and installed. I had to leave for a medical appointment as ******* begun the rebuild. (my wife and I are 76 and 77 years old and we have a lot of medical appointments). In my absence, he installed the panels, air tub jets, double the insulation than what we had and asked ***** to write him another check for $1,200 saying that the $700-$800 refund for the now, as he told us "... 18' by 8" liner was no longer needed". I was coming home just as ******* was leaving. We met in the driveway and he told me that he left the 8" by 18' liner and would come back next week to pick it up as he didn't have room in his double row cab and long bed truck today. He further repeated that his bookkeeper would send our refund on Wednesday. We have not received a check nor will he come and pick up the 18 foot by 8 inch liner. He has promised over on over on dates/days that he would but he doesn't show up. I have told him I would bring and return the liner to him-- he does not want me to do that. He has promised "the checks in the mail" at least 5 times. Nope, no check in the mail. He promised again yesterday, December20, that the "check would arrive later today or tomorrow." He said he would bet and pay me a thousand dollars if it didn't. The check still has not arrived and I am not going to waste my time trying to collect the thousand dollars when he can't seem to pay me the refund he has promised. In the next few days, I will send him a Demand Letter -- a legal document making a final appeal and demand for payment promised by a certain date or we will issue a summons and set a court date and see what the Judge thinks about all this. Here is what I think happened: ******* noted on his original report where he wrote that he was going to order the 8 inch diameter, and on another part of the report, he wrote that our flue size is 6 inches. So he ordered a liner that was too big for our flue, told us that our flue was now no longer a dangerous and that we didn't need the liner and offered the refund and would remove the 8" liner from our garage. He didn't tell us he had ordered the wrong size liner. I want to give credit to *******, he does excellent work. Especially with the rebuild of our fireplace. Even without the 18' by 8 inch liner, our fireplace insert is burning better than it ever has since it was new in 2020. I will gladly research and correct or clarify any errors that I may have committed in this write up. I will also give positive feedback if ******* does pay me the refund, he promised months ago.Business Response

They are refusing to contact us in any way after they said they would refund our money a moth ago. We have been trying to do what we can to get this resolved for the last 5 months. On 12/19/2022, ************************* visited my address at ************************************* in ****************, making claims that he could service two fireplaces, repair a concrete chimney cap, and install a rain guard on the chimney. He requested a $500 deposit at the time of agreeing to the estimate for "materials and supplies." I became suspicious when he said that he would personally do the work and to make out the check to *************************, not Anthony's Chimney Sweeps. After he left my home, I looked up his business on BBB.org and saw that he had an "F" rating. I called US Bank and requested that a hold be placed on the check, but he had already cashed the check. I called ************** immediately and told him that I would like to cancel the work and obtain a refund. He said that he would have his "bookkeeper" issue me a refund check, and that it would be in the mail within the next few days. Six weeks later, I still haven't received a check. I continued to converse with him via text until January 13, 2023 when he said "She (the bookkeeper) sent it (the check) last week on Thursday. If it's not there by Thursday call me and I'll stop by there and personally pay you. Thank you. Since then, he hasn't returned my texts or calls and hasn't issued a refund. It's been over six weeks, and still no refund of the $500 deposit, as requested.Business Response

*************,
I told you and your realtor that deposits were none refundable for ordering parts from the very beginning. You decided to call a hour later and want refund after I clearly stated that deposits are non refundable. You were selling your home and needed a chimney crown coat seal and chimney caps and were in the process of ordering parts when you called for a refund. I believe you wouldve tried to cancel the deposit if the check was made out to the company also. I think you made a decision not to do the project on second thought after discussing in more detail with your realtor. Common practice with people selling their home. They give the Ok and decide to cancel for various reasons even after signing a contract to proceed with repairs . I. normally dont give refunds after I clearly notify the homeowner that deposits are non refundable. Im going to make an exception this time to make this situation go away. Whats your current address and Ill mail you a check.
Best

August 16, 2022 I contacted Anthonys Chimney Sweeps to bid on chimney repairs. I will say, ******* was very prompt on replying and followed up with a visit and wrote up a bid for repairs. He indicated it would be two weeks before work could be completed. He cashed the deposit check and I assumed the repairs would be completed. In September, ******* called to say it would be another several weeks. On October 5, 2022 I sent a text asking if the work was going to completed on October 17 as scheduled for the third time. ******* called back and indicated all supplies were ready for the repairs. On October 12, the day before work was scheduled, *******, Office Manager for ******* called to say the repairs would again have to rescheduled as the supplies were not ready. She also said if the supplies were not ready the following week a full refund for the deposit would be sent the following week. I sent back a text to *******, about my displeasure on another delay and that I no longer had ************************* was going to do the repairs and wish to have my deposit refunded. She said a check would be mailed on the 19th of October. By the end of October, the refund check had not arrived so I sent another message by text and mail. Anthonys Chimney Sweeps is not longer returning messages and I can only assume this has been fraud from the beginning. I dont believe ******* ever intended to do the repairs, that he cashed my deposit check, is not going to refund my money as promised. This is theft.Business Response

We went out to inspect a leaking chimney . We found that the cement cap was installed poorly which allows moisture to enter through the flue. We explain to the customer that the project will require a Custom Metal Chase Cap Cover that will need to be ordered. This part keeps out moisture with a 15year warranty. When a Custom metal part has to be ordered a deposit is definitely required. The deposit was $2,500( the exact amount the Sheet metal shop wanted to make the part). It took the Sheet Metal several weeks longer to make than we were told. This caused frustration between us and the homeowner to the point the homeowner canceled the project. We still have the part even though the project was canceled . The homeowner decided to take us to small claims court for her deposit if thought she knew that the deposit was non refundable for custom parts. If she wants the part we can have it delivered to her. Thank you!

Contracted Anthony's Chimney Sweeps to install a raincap on my chimney March 31 2022. As of May 19 2022 (over a month later) I have still not received the installation of my rain cap.I paid ******* a total of over $1000, which included a chimney cleaning he completed. However, this company has missed multiple installation appointments, is uncommunicative, and has still not installed the rain cap on my chimney.Business Response

We admit that it took a little longer then it should have to install the cap. We offered to install but the homeowner wasnt pleased with the delay and threatened to call the cops if we stepped foot on his property. Credit ************ reversed the payment.

I am rejecting this response because:its over 14 months since i tried to resolve the issue. The business is combative, willfully misleads and lies to customers, and attempted to refund only $100 of the $1000 payment, and caused me to reverse charges on my credit card.
i succesfully recovered my money for work not performed, but in no way was this due to them.
