On 1/15/2020: I had Spyder Paint and Collision install a under the bed fuel tank with new intake fuel sending unit that was purchased through LMC for my **** ***** truck. Once installed, the fuel gauge would not read the amount of fuel in the tank. I notified the owner (****) of the issue that I was having. He stated that I needed to take it to a mechanic to have them diagnose what was going on. I eventually ran out of gas on HWY 24 in ************* and called Spyder Collision stating that it was their responsibility to resolve this issue if it meant calling in another technician from another shop to trouble shoot the issue. **** eventually agreed to have me bring the truck back in to his shop to drop the tank and see what was going on. **** determined that the float was stuck in the tank and was cause the fuel gauge to read empty. Once the tank was re-installed, I was on my way even though the needle of my fuel gauge was erratic at times. Fast forward to 6/27/2022, My truck was in another shop getting work done on it which required the fuel tank to be dropped to facilitate a return line for a ****** Sniper System. Once the tank was drop, the mechanic requested my presence to show me the missing hose clamp to the fuel inlet neck to the above bed fuel cap, a crushed vent hose that was simply left laying on top of my fuel tank, loose sending unit bolts and a stripped out mounting bolt for the tank. I took pictures of all the aforementioned issues and showed them to **** the owner of Spyder Collision letting him know how unsafe his substandard work could have resulted in fuel leaking out which could have cause a very unsafe and potentially hazardous situation. Additionally, I requested my money back for he had two separate opportunities to resolve the poorly installed fuel tank.Business response

This email is in response to the complaint filed by ***** Pilgrim against Spyder Paint & Collision **** We did indeed install a new fuel tank in ********************** truck in January of 2020. This was a tank that he had purchased and I was told the kit included everything needed to install it and when completed there were no parts or hardware left over. The kit did not include an "optional" hose clamp for the top of the tank due to the fact that the top hose would be sandwiched in between the bed and the tank and it would be impossible for the hose to come off or to ever leak. The tank did not leak and never did leak any fuel. As far as the gauge is concerned, at first I did not know why the gauge did not work and I explained that to ****************** when he picked his truck up after the tank was installed so when he called me an hour later and said he ran out of gas I told him to bring the truck back and I would look at it again. I wasn't sure why he decided to drive to ********************* (over 40 miles away) without stopping and putting gas in the truck knowing a new tank was installed and the gauge was inoperable. When the truck came back I was able to resolve the issue with the gauge and Mr. ***************** happy. Then 2 1/2 years later he returned complaining that his mechanic found 1 stripped bolt and 2 loose bolts and a pinched hose. When I asked him what I can do to make him happy his only response was that he wanted a full refund of the entire $1000.00 and if I wasn't willing to do that he would see me in court. I was not about to give Mr. ********************* for 1 hose clamp and 2 loose bolts especially when his, and all customer, repair orders clearly state that all warranty work must be performed at Spyder Paint & Collision and he had taken it to another mechanic. How was I to know for sure that there were any loose or stripped bolts and that the vent line was pinched. Mr. ****************** said anything about the tank not being secure or that the tank leaked fuel or vapor locked due to the pinched hose and a blocked vent hose would definitely lead to vapor locking. As far as I am concerned ****************** was being very unreasonable when requesting a full refund and he voided his warranty when he took it to another shop for repairs. This is clearly stated on our repair orders. I have attached a copy of ********************** repair order which he also has a copy of.
