I'm not liable for this debt with DEFENSE FINANCE & ACCOUNTING SVC (DFAS) for $263. **** did not provide me with any notice, contract, or reason for this balance. I have no knowledge of this account. I am a 100% Disabled Veteran, medically retired in Sept 2023. **** claims this debt was filed 11/2023, two months after I retired from the military. I have no knowledge of this account and was never notified of any outstanding balance.

I am filing a complaint against the Defense Finance and ****************** (DFAS) regarding their handling of an alleged debt related to my military separation. DFAS has failed to follow proper procedures in several ways:DFAS did not adhere to their policy of sending debt notifications to my separation address, which is the required address for all communication following military separation. As a result, I was not informed of any alleged debt in a timely manner.DFAS reported the alleged debt to credit bureaus before sending a final notice to my correct address. This action was taken without ensuring I had been properly notified of the debt.Despite my requests, DFAS has not provided any supporting documentation to substantiate the alleged debt. I have not received a detailed breakdown or explanation of how this debt was calculated or incurred.DFAS has threatened to send the debt to collections without providing proper notice or allowing me the opportunity to dispute it. This threat was made without ensuring due process or adherence to fair debt collection practices. The actions taken by DFAS appear to violate fair debt collection practices, which typically include the right to proper notification, the opportunity to dispute a debt, and the provision of adequate documentation before adverse actions are taken. These issues have collectively resulted in potential damage to my credit score and financial standing, as well as causing significant stress and uncertainty. I am seeking a thorough review of this situation by DFAS, including full documentation of the alleged debt, removal of the premature credit bureau reporting, and adherence to proper notification procedures before any further action is taken.I request that DFAS address these issues and revise their practices to ensure compliance with fair debt collection standards, preventing similar situations from occurring to other service members in the future.
