I also signed up with the website with my insurance info and was connected with a therapist that supposedly took my insurance. Then before my session I spoke directly with sondermind client services and they confirmed that the counselor took my insurance. Then I was charged the full price for the session, which was only intake info. Didnt even get any help. This company is fraud. Be warned. What a way to take advantage of people struggling with issues. Pretty bogus. I cant say enough about how frustrating this is. If I could Id give this 0 star.Review from Alison d

I have worked as a therapist with Sondermind for 4 years now, and unfortunately they have gone significantly downhill as a business. I officially ended my contract with them due to experiencing so many issues, especially over the last couple years. Their customer service has essentially disappeared - last time I called I was told that phone support no longer exists for therapists, and they redirected me to email support (which takes 1-2 weeks for a response on average in my experience).My clients have given me feedback about their experience with Sondermind and it has been equally horrible. They say it's difficult, if not impossible, to get in touch with support, and that billing is usually backed up for months.It makes me so sad to think of all the clients who are trying to connect with care and end up having a horrible experience with billing, customer service, etc (everything EXCEPT the actual therapy). I've had clients who have had to stop therapy altogether due to billing issues that couldn't get resolved in a timely manner, which is absolutely heartbreaking and unacceptable. I wish I could spare all clients from interacting with Sondermind, and I will never recommend it to anyone.I should also note that the pay we receive as therapists is completely unsustainable, which is one of the reasons I am leaving. I will continue to work with Headway, a company who offers similar services as Sondermind, but with better pay, more transparency about cost for clients, and timely customer service and communication.As you can see in other reviews - there are plenty of amazing therapists who work with Sondermind, however, these are independent contractors such as myself. Sondermind has neglected the needs of the therapists, as well as their clients. Unfortunately they are now just another company who seems to care more about boosting profits than actually helping the people they claim to want to help. So far, Sondermind has been a great way to seek out and get on a schedule with mental healthcare. I had so much trouble calling around to offices and providers, Somdermind made it easy by connecting me with providers that were not only nearby and suited to my individual needs, but inside my insurance network. The provider I was paired with is wonderful, and the ease of set-up with Sondermind gave me peace of mind that I desperately needed while struggling with anxiety.

I had several sessions with Sondermind and was told before counseling started that my insurance would cover it. Also, statements I received in the mail and online from my insurance showed they covered these sessions. However, Sondermind has withdrawn from my bank account the full amount for several of those sessions, the exact same ones that my insurance covered. When I reached out to Sondermind they told me my insurance told them they were not covering those sessions. So who is wrong? If my insurance does not cover something, they bill me and I pay it. So this does not make sense and I'm getting the runaround from Sondermind.SonderMind Inc Response

I firmly reiterate, this practice and their practitioners- are extremely professional and treat their patients with such kindness and respect. I was also misled by SonderMinds website and app that insurance would cover my sessions. After two meetings with a completely worthless therapist, I stopped attending sessions and when the bill came instead of being $40 it was $400. I have emailed and spoken to someone in person, who told me all I can do is email them and they have not returned any communication. Shame on them for taking advantage of people who are already suffering from anxiety and depression.SonderMind Inc Response

Hi there, thank you for bringing this to our attention. The tool on our website is meant to be an estimate, but it is ultimately the client's responsibility to confirm their benefits with their insurance provider, as every plan is different.
Per our Financial Responsibility Agreement: 1. Your Responsibility for Payment. You are responsible for payment for all services provided by SonderMind. You understand that some services may not be covered by insurance. It is your responsibility to ensure your health plan benefits can be used for our services. As with others who have taken the time to write a review, I've had billing issues that are yet to be resolved. You can't speak to anyone, and when you do, they aren't in the billing department and cannot help you. I've been overcharged, and they continue to overcharge me without resolve. How is this a good business practice to take my money that isn't owed to them? I've called, emailed several times, and I'm still being overcharged for my sessions. I've now decided to cancel my upcoming therapy due to this, and will not go back. I can't even remove my credit card on file without replacing it with another one! My therapist provided a good service, but their business practices as an organization is very unprofessional and not "customer-minded".SonderMind Inc Response

Hi there, our team was able to investigate this and we found that the charges were generated incorrectly due to a benefits verification issue.
We adjusted the charges and were able to issue a refund. Our team should've already reached out, but we'll be in touch again once the remaining claims are processed.Review from Jaden S

Sondermind has charged me 8 times in the month of July. They took 4 payments out today and this has greatly impacted my finances and I don't know how I'll be able to recover. This is unethical billing practice. I don't know what is going on, but this is unacceptable and seeing more reviews here, I regret ever using this service as this is the second time Sondermind has bulk charged me and put my finances in jeopardy. My therapist is professional, knowledgeable, and caring. She wants to know you, help you, and communicate with you. By knowing you and listening to you, she can advise, suggest, and engage in meaningful discussing. I appreciate her insights and suggestions for things I can do to help myself. This place is filled with some of the most incompetent people. Physiatrist I dealt with (doctor ****** forgot who I was every time we met. Charged my insurance for longer times than we ever met. Never provided real solutions or help. Literally ignored everything I told him about previous medications I had tried and did not care or make me feel heard. If I could I would rate this a zero star experience. Stay away as they will keep charging your account long after you cancel.SonderMind Inc Response
