I am filing this complaint due to Royalty Exchanges deceptive and unprofessional handling of a recent transaction. Despite entering into an agreement in good faith, they have arbitrarily withheld funds, failed to provide clear explanations, and treated me dismissively after I began questioning their actions. On December 10, 2024, my sister and I jointly entered into a Fixed Return Purchase Agreement with Royalty Exchange to sell 100% of our publishing royalty rights for $14,100. My portion totaled $7,050, with an agreed 10% holdback ($705) to ensure *** properly transfers payments. However, Royalty Exchange withheld additional funds beyond the agreed amount without justification. Initially, they withheld $2,000, then lowered it to $1,600, and as of January 6, 2025, the withholding amount was $1,370.57. Despite repeated requests for clarification, Royalty Exchange has not explained how these amounts were determined or provided legal justification for withholding funds related to a third-party judgment.Their legal counsel, ***, stated this was due to a third-party debt collectors judgment against me. However, this was not part of the contract I signed. The agreement makes no mention of withholding funds for unrelated legal issues. On December 19, 2024, I informed **** ***** that I could not sign off on the deal due to the unauthorized withholding. On January 2, 2025, **** lowered the amount to $1,600, and on January 6, 2025, the withholding dropped again to $1,370.57 without explanation. After raising concerns, responses from their team, particularly ****** *****, became dismissive and unprofessional. I have asked repeatedly for a breakdown of the calculations and their legal authority to withhold funds, but I have been ignored or brushed off. This conduct has caused financial hardship and emotional distress.I respectfully request that Royalty Exchange be held accountable for their lack of transparency, unfair practices, and dismissive treatment of clients.
