On June 16, 2023, I paid Valley Lawn Cemetery $4550.00 (per contract dated June 15, 2023) for my dad's graveside service. My contact person was T.J. G*****, owner of Grand Valley Funeral Homes. The service was scheduled for June 22, 2023 at 10:30 am. On the day of the service, we got a call asking the family to delay our arrival at the cemetery due to an issue. When we arrived at 10:20 am, imagine our disbelief when we saw a mini excavator just starting to dig the grave. Members of the community were already there and witnessing the same thing. No grave, shade canopy not in place, a few dirty chairs with torn upholstery and foam cushion exposed, lowering device unassembled. Now what? Thanks to my husband, the company delivering the casket and members of the community, we improvised. We moved the crowd into the shade of nearby trees, put the shade canopy over the casket, sat the elderly on dirty chairs and proceeded to have my dad's service. This was definitely not the service our family had envisioned. This is an epic failure to deliver services at an acceptable level. No final goodbyes, (no grave yet). The casket had to be put back in the hearse and then returned to the cemetery that afternoon for burial. In the days that followed, the grave was flooded from a broken water line that was not repaired. In numerous emails to Mr. G*****, I have asked to resolve this issue in a professional manner. He has stopped responding to my emails. The Secretary of State shows Rose A***** as the registered agent for Valley Lawn Cemetery (a nonprofit) but my research also shows her to be the CFO for Grand Valley Funeral Home. Recent news articles say that the licenses for Grand Valley Funeral Home have been revoked. So now who is in charge of the cemetery? the funds? A new company has appeared, ******** ******** ***** ***. They are located at the same address as Grand Valley Funeral Home and Valley Lawn Cemetery (mailing address). Are these the same people just a new name? Help!
