I enrolled at Colorado Christian Academy and then fell ill. I sent them the hospital note and advised I needed to withdraw. I was admitted to the hospital for ongoing medical issues. When I was able to check on it I discovered the advisor I sent everything to did nothing. They failed me in my classes and refused to re-evaluate that I did request a withdrawal during the proper amount of time so I did not have to pay for the semester. I physically was not able to attend and I made them aware of that. They did not follow through and instead charged me for a full semester. That I did not attend. Then they sold it to a credit collection team and its affected my credit twice. They attempted to tell me I my medical reason was not sufficient enough but I was locked in the hospital and could not attend any classes. I emailed them prior and advised them of my need to withdraw and the advisor did not send the appropriate documents to who it needed to go to.

Thank you for allowing us to respond to the concerns raised by this student. We appreciate the opportunity to clarify the steps we took to address her situation.

The student registered for two courses in the summer semester of 2022. The student attended her first class for five days before ceasing participation. When a student stops engaging with their courses for 14 days without participation, our policies require that they be withdrawn. In this case, the student was withdrawn from her first course with a grade of **** (Failure to Withdraw), while her second course was dropped. This is a standard and required procedure, which is designed to ensure that student records accurately reflect participation.

After the semester had ended, the student reached out to her advisor to explore the option of a medical withdrawal. However, she was unable to provide the necessary documentation, so the **** grade remained.

As a gesture of goodwill, we have since changed her grade from **** to "W"(Withdrawn), eliminating any academic penalty, and we have also reversed the tuition charges for this course. However, the student originally applied for financial aid for both courses, including funds intended to help cover living expenses. On June 21, 2022, she received a disbursement check which met the required timing and structure for disbursing financial aid. When we learned that she was no longer attending, our ******************** conducted the necessary review, calculating that, due to her withdrawal, she could only retain approximately 7% of that aid. By law, we were required to return the remaining amount to the government.

With the tuition charges reversed, her outstanding balance has been reduced. However, she remains responsible for repaying the living expenses that were not earned due to her withdrawal. Until this amount is repaid, it will remain in collections.

In handling this situation, we followed our policies and complied with federal requirements, and we have taken additional steps to assist her where possible.

    Sincerely,
    Dr. **** *****
University Registrar and Assistant VP of Registration Services

I am rejecting this response because:

There should not be any living expenses accumulated. The courses were online. Its an online university and there was no agreement of me living on campus to bring about living expenses. I am located in ************ and I registered for online classes.

    Sincerely,

I reached out to Colorado Christian thinking I had attended before. When I spoke with the enrollment person she said she didn't see the credits but it was probably due to a system change. She later said she found them and would ensure they were added to my account. I then enrolled and had all of my transcripts send over (that I paid to do). Each time I tried to enroll in a class it was blocked and I would send screen shots, they continued to tell me it was fixed. yet each time I would log on it was not. Finally, I was told it was going to clear up, but I had to first attend the religious studies class as a prerequisite. After a week, I asked to drop the class and unenroll because I could finally read the description of my next available class. I realized it was based on religious studies and would not support my future goals. None of this was made available to me prior due to all the errors. The counselor then sent me the paperwork to drop the class and that she would talk to someone about the charge since it was a day late (you are not able to drop classes on your own like all other schools). When I followed up, she told me I should still do the homework so as not to get a bad grade. I told her I was confused that that was what class I was asking to drop. She told me she sent me the paperwork to drop the future class, which I had already deleted from any future schedule (this was enabled). I asked her why I would need help to do that if I could not cancel on my own for the current one. After multiple attempts to talk to someone else, I was continually told I was still enrolled and that I would owe for the class. Since this time period, I have continued to receive harassing phone calls at work and on my cell from the counselor, a collection agency, and emails from the school about deadlines and enrollments. I also confirmed my previous school was Regis *********************** so the 6 credits they have on my "account" are not even factual. The entire enrollment was a fraud.

Thank you for connecting with us and for allowing us to review and respond to this request.

After reviewing this students situation and considering her confusion about our program requirements and mission while also acknowledging federal requirements for aid that was disbursed, we are willing to write-off her current balance. Bound by federal regulations, we cannot simply drop the course from her academic record because she did participate in class and federal agencies were notified of her participation; however, we can give her a withdrawa grade that will not affect her GPA or academic standing. She no longer owes CCU any monies, and her grade for the class in which she participated is a W.

In January I went online to get my school documents using Parchment from Christian Colorado University sent to my current school ************** in ******************* as they need them. I figured since I paid the $11.00 that it said to pay to have these transferred over by e-mail so I thought they had done this. I just found out today March 14,2024 that the school cancelled this instead of sending them over to ************** like they should have. So they are responsible for doing this. And my current school, ************** is blaming me because they have not got these documents yet like I am supposed to be a mind reader and know this. They are also waiting to get the same documents from another college in WA state that I went to and that school is in the process of doing it.

I was informed by my Student Advisor a few months ago that they were going to suspend me for my GPA and she told me that I can appeal it well nothing more was said to me about it and I had told her I was going out of town to see my sister before she passed away. Nothing more was said to me while I was gone and I did call *********************** ((sorry about the misspelling So I did call her a few times and let her know when I would be back and also called her when I was back to let her know that. The other day I tried to get into my student e-mail and could not get into it and didn't know why so I called Technical Support at the school and they told me that the reason I could not get into it was because the school had suspended me. I believe that I should have received something in writing which I did not get. And when I talked to ****** now I asked her why I was not told in writing and she beat around the **** and told me "Well we talked about it " and I told her that I should have received something in writing. Thanks now to the school doing this I am broke and have no money at all.I don't believe this was fair to me as a student. Also They knew when I first started there that had disabilities too and that I was working on getting those in ikti

When I first applied to Colorado Christian University I got a call the very same day to help me enroll. I told the man that I did not have the money to pay for college, and at this time I was unemployed and my full time job would be my education. I was told that was no issue, and that my FAFSA would pay for my education until I graduated. After I started my first class (fall 2022) I started getting emails saying I was needing to pay them money. I did not think much of the email, because I was told I did not have to pay back anything until I graduated and also because they kept sending me false emails saying I was not participating in class and then later also reviving emails apologizing about the email because it was faulty and to disregard the message. Then recently I went to apply for my fall classes, and I found my account was on hold which means I can not apply for any classes until I pay the money I owe. They said that I was signed up for all of the classes they said I needed for fall 2022 and only AFTER I was informed that I did not receive enough credits for financial aid for those classes. I had no clue, and if I had been informed I would have signed up for another class to get another credit. Then I was also told my FAFSA also didnt pay for my spring 2023 classes because I did not have adequate parental information, which I was under the impression that was fine. I was told the steps I needed to take to fix this issue, and I have sent in the needed information. I have been in contact with a financial aid advisor that has been working with me to get this issue resolved. Last week I emailed her again, and I never got a reply back even after she got back from her vacation. I also emailed them again yesterday and have still heard nothing. This is the second complaint. The first time I filed a complaint I got a call right away that told me they were fixing this, after the call that day I have heard nothing back and the issue is still not resolved.

I attended Colorado Christian University for one block in the Spring 2023 semester. I had planned to take two classes but after the first class, I realized this school's creative writing program is an overpriced waste of time because the material is solely based on a service provided for $50/month on ************************* ************* online. On February 1, 2023 at approximately 11:50 a.m. I called CCU financial services and spoke to financial aid specialist to inquire about the cost of dropping my second block class because I realized CCU was far overpriced for the education I was receiving (my opinion). I was told by the financial aid specialist on February 1, 2023 that the amount owed would be $0.00 since my financial aid and scholarship portion covered the cost of the single class/fees. I said twice, "So, I will not need to pay anything after dropping this class, correct?" and he said, "Correct." With this knowledge, I decided to drop the second block class on February 1, 2023. On February 3, 2023, I received an email stating I owed $312.00. I paid this amount on February 8, 2023, bringing my balance, once again, to $0.00. However, on March 3, 2023, I received another email stating I needed to review my recent statement. Upon checking my student account, it was "updated" 3/03/23 and said I owe an additional $250.00. There are no new charges listed explaining why I now owe an additional $250.00 on top of the $312.00 I already paid. This was after the financial services personal told me I would owe nothing after dropping the second block class. Had I been given the appropriate information to the amount I would owe after dropping classes, I would have stayed for the additional second block class because my financial situation is not such that I can afford $562.00 worth of fees out of pocket, on top of other student loans I am already paying off. Colorado Christian University is not up front about hidden fees, nor do they provide detailed explanations of charges incurred.

    Business Response

    Date: 03/16/2023

It appears the student was confused by the information she was provided by the financial services specialist. Our notes indicate she was told she would not pay anything for the second course being dropped (not that she would not owe anything out of pocket). However, due to dropping below half-time the student was ineligible to receive some federal aid that required at least half-time status. The charges on the student's account are for the first course the student completed and received credit for. The balance on the account came from aid being removed that required at least half-time status.

CCU does not have any hidden fees and all information about the cost of tuition and fees and refund information is publicly available on our website. The student's account statement clearly displays that charges are for the first course and there are no charges for the second course. Although all charges on the account are legitimate and owed by the student for the first course completed, we will reduce the current balance from $250 to $0 due to the student's confusion about what she was told, and we wish her well in the future.
