Rock Mountain Steel Piering *** came out to my home to look at a small leak at the foundation of my basement. They noted it would be approximately 2 men working 2 days to fix the issue along with a significant amount equipment and material needed to fix a cracking issue with the wall of my basement. I trusted them that this was the case and signed an agreement to have the work completed for $3,200 and put a down payment for $1600. I felt that $3,200 for 2 men working for 2 days was a reasonable rate amounting to ~$100 per hour. A few days later, a worker came out with a shovel, dug a hole and then left after 4 hours of work. I was quite confused as I was under the impression this was a very big deal requiring approximately 32hrs of work. I contacted the owner of the company and offered to let them keep the $1600 noting that the man only worked for 4hrs with no equipment (beyond a shovel) and therefore $1600 should be more than adequate. They responded with a phone call and correspondence that was pushy and threated to charge delinquent fees if i did not pay immediately. After seeking guidance from friends, I went ahead and paid the remaining balance to avoid a lawsuit and as a show of good faith. However, as an 87yr old woman, I must say that I feel very taken advantage of and I believe that the process that the BBB will ultimately show that this company has taken advantage of a Senior Citizen. While I am 87, I am still of very sound mind and I know when people are being disrespectful. In my dealings with them, it was clear that they were trying to take advantage of my age and I certainly want to prevent them from doing so to my friends and peers. I really appreciate your consideration and help, and trust that you will work with me to resolve this disappointing issue.

In response to the complaint by *****************   Her job was bid as a completed job bid cost of $3,200.00 for the work necessary to repair the water leak in her foundation. Our jobs are bid based on the scope of work necessary, not on the age of the prospective client. The job was completed as specified. **************** paid a $1,600 deposit, as required in the Proposal that she signed.  Upon completion of the job, *************** indicated her satisfaction and was told that we would email her an invoice for the remaining amount due, which is due upon receipt.  In lieu of payment, she sent a letter stating that she did not feel that she needed to pay the remaining amount.
When the remaining amount due was not paid in a timely fashion, our employee in charge of Accounts Receivable contacted her and was told that **************** did not think it was fair that she should pay the remaining amount due, according to the contract, and hung up the phone.  After another couple of weeks, an email was sent to **************** indicating that if the amount due was not paid by a specific date, which was 30 days past the invoice (due) date, that she would incur a late fee in accordance with the Proposal that she signed.
This job was bid, completed and billed in accordance with common business practices.

This individual lives is the same neighborhood as the owner of Rocky Mountain Steel Piering previously did.  She is complaining that she was taken advantage of as an elderly individual when in fact, the owner made sure that this job was put on our schedule sooner than she anticipated to make sure there were no further weather damages if it rained.  Additionally, he had our best employee on the job and added additional soil to the exterior of the foundation, in the area of the work, to assist in correct drainage.  This additional cost was not added to the claimants invoice.
