I called *** Mechanical after researching HVAC companies in my area that could install a Unico System. I had researched this system and only two companies in ****** were experienced to install this system. There were two phone numbers on the *** Mechanical website and the mobile number was the only one that worked. A guy name ************************* answered and I scheduled him to come out on October 31 to give me a quote. After he walked around in my house he said it would be a fit for him. I asked him how much to get started and he said $10,000 to start. I stupidly wrote him a check and asked for his business card. His business card did NOT say JG Mechanical - it said HVAC MECHANIC. I asked him about this and he said he parted ways with them after working there 20+ years. Again I stupidly moved forward with him even though I had red flags. I figured he knew his stuff. I asked him to send me a quote. A day after he left I wrote him and asked him again for a quote and to make sure to include *******. He wrote back and said we didnt need to pull permits. I said that we had to pull permits and he said he would get one but that I would have to find my own electrician. After this conversation I couldnt sleep at night. The next day, Nov 5 I wrote him and canceled the job and that I would like a refund of my money but that I would pay him for his time. He wrote back that he would keep $2000 for his time and restocking fee for what he had purchased. I agreed thinking if I got $8000 back I would be lucky. He promised to pay $5000 and the rest later but I never heard from him. I wrote him and offered him another $1000 if he would pay me $7000. He agreed of course but never sent the money. We have gone back and forth since then me writing him and he not responding. I finally wrote him and said I am wanting the full $10,000 back or Ill have to take further steps. *** made a lot of stupid mistakes here but I tried to be gracious to him to no avail. What can I do to recoup $?
