The date of the newspaper is March 20 2025. I love the Hartford Courant I have been reading it for decades and reliable upon it everyday for world news and some local news. As of today this newspaper has completely been turned upside down on its head. Everything on the front page is about Connecticut only. And then the next six pages are about Connecticut only. Then you get an opinion page with maybe two articles on it and after that one article about the world news. Only one article about the world news!! This newspaper was one of the best newspapers ever and the oldest newspaper in the US. And now it is being dumbed down. Six pages of Connecticut news only. One article about world news. There is so much incredibly important world news going on right now and all we get is one article which is actually old news. The rest of the 36 Pages consist of recipes, games, 12 Sports pages. Hartford Courant is being destroyed absolutely destroyed and it makes me extremely sad because I've been reading this newspaper for almost 40 years. There is no reason for this except for the editor Helen B****** is making horrible choices and it is her fault.Hartford Courant

The Hartford Courant has delivered me 1 paper out of a 6 month subscription and it was the one with the Black Friday advertisements around Thanksgiving. This is a complete scam. I have reported all missed deliveries via the worthless automated system and representatives in call centers in India. Filed a claim with BBB. Multiple emails and still no paper delivered.Hartford Courant

Absolutely the worst customer service. We were moving out of state and paid up to the date we were leaving and cancelled out service going forward. Hartford Courant continued to bill us and multiple phone calls led to no resolution as one staff had no idea what another staff did and we just got a run a round. Once we finally did get resolution from someone that in fact our subscription was cancelled and we had zero balance, we still got further bills and were turned over to a collection agency. We ultimately got email confirmation sent at our persistent request that the account had zero balance and subscription was cancelled. Seems Hartford Courant never communicated this to the collection agency as we continue to get calls from them. Hartford Courant is continuing to send requests to the collection agency, and the collection agency is continuing to call us. This is going on 5 months that should have been an easy problem to remedy if the Courant had better customer service.Hartford Courant

My subscription is supposedly for a 3 month period and renews at the end of the quarter. However they have been charging for the next 3 month period 3 to 4 weeks before the end of the quarter. When I call to inquire their person can only read what their computer screen says and can’t provide any resolution to the issue. I am prepared to cancel my subscription the next time this happens.Hartford Courant

Bait and switch Every time I sign up with the Hartford Courant they tell me one thing and then do another. Case in point in February 9th of this year I received a bill for $129.99 and I called them and contested the bill and Jormar stated it included a supply chain cost, but they would credit it and my total cost would be $117.00 thru 9.13.24. Then, I receive a new statement on 7.4.24 saying I was paid thru 8.5.24 (this date is over 30 days earlier then the original paid thru date of 9.13.24). Then, I receive another statement on 7.29.24 saying I am paid thru 7.28.24 (this date is over 30 days earlier than the original paid thru date of 9.13.24). I called them and they said I owed a back payment. Today is 9.12.24 and my subscription is not suppose to expire until tomorrow. Because of their false claims and charges I cancelled my subscription. The subscription is not for me but my elderly Mother who is on a VERY fixed income. I wanted to renew her subscription but when they said I owed a back payment I was aghast. Luckily I keep all the statements they sent to me. And I have the 2.9.24 statement that states with my payment of $117, I am paid thru 9.13.24. I believe the Hartford Courant uses very deceptive billing and coercion practices to get customers to pay what they want. It is NOT the way to do do business.Hartford Courant

All was fine with delivery. However, when I didn't want the subscription, that's where the problem is. My subscription was coming up for renew on September 6, 2024. On August 30th, I called to cancel; giving 1 week notice. After the gentleman tried offering a number of discounts, I finally got a confirmation number and told it was cancelled. However, today, September 5, 2024 they deducted a yearly subscription. I called and was informed it's due to be cancelled tomorrow. I said then why was the money taken out of my account? All she kept saying she was sorry. I said so, I you take your payment immediately when I started this delivery, I call a week in advance to cancel so there would be no concerns, you take money out of my account without consent and now I have to wait 5 business for a credit? I told her it was unacceptable. Again, she apologized and told me to have a good day and ended our conversation. I would NEVER do business with these people again!Hartford Courant

I signed up for access to read an online article, and now I see charges of $19.96 on 7/19/24 and for $34.00 on 8/16/24. I was not aware I had an ongoing subscription, have not been using the online content, and I did not receive any notice that this renewal and escalation of charges would occur. I think these are very deceptive practices and feel my $53.96 should be refunded.Hartford Courant

The scamming that occurs at the Hartford Courant should be more public. I can't imagine someone not technically savvy/someone who doesn't pay attention to their card statements trying to deal with this. Deserves zero stars. I started my subscription after a 1$ for 6 months deal in August (just so I could read an article that I was in!!!)... shockingly I did remember to go online and cancel it in February. Except that didn't matter and I was still charged $19.96 for February, March, AND April. I didn't catch the charges until I saw the March one, then saw it happened again in February. I realized my online cancelation did nothing so I called them (before I was charged for April, trying to avoid another $19.96). Their billing system was down so I was told that they couldn't process my refund yet, but the woman on the phone did say I could get a refund for the charges. I called back today to check on it as I saw I was charged for April. Talked to a different woman on the phone who said subscriptions were nonrefundable so they couldn't do anything. I said the last person I talked to said I would be able to get refunded (at that point for just Feb. and March, but at this point I was charged $59.88 that I should not have been). Then, magically I could get refunded for "the money left on my account" (??) which was $39.92. I asked why not the other $19.92, I was told because subscriptions are nonrefundable, I said I canceled my subscription in February but I was billed anyway for the next 3 months. Etc. Etc. I gave up and took my $39. We'll see if it actually comes. Otherwise, I'll just call again! DO NOT think canceling your subscription online does anything, DO NOT give up on the first try when trying to get your money back, DO NOT let yourself or anyone you know pay for a subscription to The Hartford Courant.Hartford Courant

May 8, 2024 Our sincere apologies regarding any inconvenience or frustration associated with your Hartford Courant digital subscription. The information you provided within this Complaint and your billing associated with your account is being reviewed and proper course of action will be taken, if needed. After reviewing your former subscription, Customer Service had assisted with your concern and cancelled your account effective April 18, 2024. The April payment had processed on April 15, 2024. There were no other stop requests reflected on your account prior to that time and you were still receiving the unlimited digital access to the Hartford Courant. In the interest of fairness, Customer Service did provide a refund of $39.96 which was the last two payments even with our no refund policy. For any additional information associated with our Terms and Conditions, please refer to www.tribpub.com/tc. Please allow 21-30 business days for this refund to be received due to standard processing times. 1 starI have called and also electronically tried to get my 'paid' subscription delivered as promised . This issue has been going on months Now I see in the BBB, this issue is rampant. When I email, no one answers, when I call they say they will have someone get back to me....nothing. I see other customers get the newspaper including convenience stores etc.??? As stated earlier why has not the attorney general get involved. I say "0" starts is the proper rating. ??Review fromLee l

3 starsI have been a long time customer for the Hartford Courant (since 1997). I have always paid for a 7 day a week delivery of the Courant. Since early March 2024 I have only received 50% of the paid for editions. Every day I have reported the non delivery problem. I have talked to real people and also the Courant robot . They say that they are crediting my account but I never get a statement so I don't know if they credit me or not, In any case, I want the paper to be delivered daily as per our agreement. The Courant is not living up to our agreement of daily delivery and has done nothing to correct the problem.
