1 starOn November 12, 2024 HOCON charged a unit price of $2.39 per gallon. As of 12/21/24 we received service three days earlier than the scheduled service date at a unit price of $4.58-- a nearly 91% increase in less than a month without notifying us of the increase. According to the state of CT increases of this measure and time frame can be considered price gauging. According to the US energy information administration the current market rate in CT is $2.3-$3.8 with residential rates falling around $2.3-$3.4. Do your costumers deserve the courtesy of being notified before you increase prices so significantly above the market rate? On top of the egregious increase-- my due date for this bill is 12/26/24 -- 5 days from the date of service. If I make the payment one day after the due date, on 12/26/24 you are charging me $10 more....Review fromGenee C

Hi there, HOCON has been unable to resolve our billing issue or over a month. They prematurely charged us for tanks. We started our account when into our home in January 2024. They charged us in November 2024 instead of January 2025. We've asked for a reimbursement and after speaking with Tony and Melissa, we still have not seen a reimbursement. In addition they are charging for tank when many other companies are not. I will pull our account should we not receive immediate remediation by Monday December 9th. This is unacceptable.Hocon Gas, Inc.

It does appear that the tank lease fee was billed out on 10/31/2024, however, it was credited back to the account on 11/1/2024. There was an ACH payment made on 11/5/2024, leaving a balance equal to the lease fee. However, on 11/12 an additional delivery was made to the tank using the credit balance that had been placed on the account at time of delivery. The current credit balance on the account is $15.41, resulting in no payment due, but will be utilized towards the next delivery the customer receives. We apologize that the branch did not explain the transactions on the account clearly enough. 1 starHocon was good the first year, but now just awful. We prepay for propane and they do not deliver until we call several times. We are totally dissatisfied, and we have tried to speak with someone at their office but they simply do not care about the customer. 1 starThis company charged me an exorbitant price of $7.55 per gallon and an additional $70 per year for renting the tank. However, I managed to find another company that only charges $10 per month for tank rent to own and $1.95 per gallon for fuel delivery. It seems that Hocon company is taking advantage of a loophole where they can charge whatever they want as long as you don't reach a minimum of 1000 gallons per year. This is a clear display of terrible customer service and a company that does not prioritize the well-being of its customers. I highly advise caution when dealing with this company and instead recommend using ****** ** *** ****** which offers transparent and fair services.Review fromFrancesca U

This is the second year in a row they have auto filled my propane tank when I’ve asked them to NOT auto fill. This year I tried not paying the bill until I needed more. They did it again in spite of me not paying my bill, they filled my tank at end of season!Hocon Gas, Inc.

We endeavor to respond to all customer request and concerns immediately. There was no indication that the customer has ever been on will-call over the past 5 years servicing the location. Hocon generally requires a customer sign a "Will Call Letter" to indicate their understanding of their obligations of when to call for deliveries, what to expect from that type of service, etc. There is no will-call letter on file. We have tried to discuss the situation with the customer and work this out for her and have requested she call back into the office to discuss. She can call ************ and ask to speak to a manager. We will gladly resolve any issues she may have.Review fromSandy K

4 starsFrom the first phone call to the last email, I had the best experience dealing with Karen in the ********** ** location. After calling a dozen times over the last 5 years due prices being more than double of the competing companies and getting the excuse the billing system has glitches and then they adjust my bill to be more inline with pricing from other companies, you have to watch what they are charging you as they are typically more than double the state wide rate for propane. This call due to the price charged at almost $5.00 a gallon for propane I was told they don't set the prices and it is what it is. I called a local competing company and they are at $2.27 a gallon! 10 years I have been a customer of Hocon and am being told it is what it is. I will be changing my supplier as soon as I can! be very careful of this company and pay attention to your bill! Support a local honest company instead!Hocon Gas, Inc.

We apologize that our CSR was not able explain to the customer's understanding how propane is priced and industry standards and norms of propane usage. After review of the customer's account, it is noted that he purchases less than 400 gallons per year. Propane is priced on a per-gallon-delivered basis based on the number of gallons purchased in a year. It is easy for a competitor to quote a very low price as an introductory price to the customer in order to entice more business. They will eventually see the low volume of the customer and over time will increase their rates to the customer and will be in the appropriate pricing categories as if he had stayed with his original company. The state overage this week as posted by the Energy Information Agency for the state of CT is $3.729 per gallon based on 1,000 gallons purchased in a year. 1 starAfter the 3rd improper billing, I am discontinuing service with Hocon. Even when I have called to have an unwarranted charge removed from a bill, they still haven't corrected it in the next bill. They have the worst accounting practices and software known to business. Their cheery advertising angers me greatly! In 2019 I had to go through a lengthy process whereby they sent my account to collections - without any notice to me that a payment was in arrears (which had happened because of a lost check). Earlier there had also been an unfortunate lack of communication on payments. Now, they are billing me for "Transactions" which I've learned is a delivery charge of fuel, even though I have a minimum use contract. Good bye and good riddance, Hocon!
