I contracted with GFedale in Oct 2022 to address water leaking issues. They inspected my home and proposed the following: 2 roof replacements, partial chimney rebuild, and a scupper box to handle water drainage. I accepted all recommendations, relying on the company’s assurances that they could stop the leaking. The job was completed in Dec 2022. In Jan 2023 I paid the job in full: $21,295. In the months following, numerous issues were discovered: a damaged, incorrectly installed scupper box; bad flashing; and several other roof defects. In addition, my home continued to leak/incur water damage through the same areas. This contradicted what I was repeatedly told: ‘everything was completed properly & nothing is leaking.’ I also learned GFedale misrepresented my chimney’s condition (I was told it required a roofline-up rebuild & without it they couldn’t guarantee the leaking would stop) and did not rebuild it. This information was withheld for over a year & only admitted in Feb 2024 that it was not rebuilt as contracted. Despite their reluctance, I was refunded the $4535 I paid for the rebuild. I attempted in good faith to let them correct the issues; some they did. As of today the company has not stopped the leaking nor completed the contracted work; specifically, it has not installed the scupper box correctly. They attempted but failed to correct the botched installation this past May (I was told they did not have a required part & would need to return at a later date). Since then, there has been a breakdown in trust/comms caused by their lack of transparency and continued pattern of withholding photos and concealing knowledge of improper workmanship. I can no longer trust GFedale or the integrity of their work, nor can I allow them to perform any additional work on my home - now or in the future. I am hiring someone else to redo the job correctly. Therefore I am requesting GFedale return the remainder of my money in connection with this unfinished project.

      To Whom It May Concern,
We appreciate the opportunity to formally respond to the complaint filed by Ms. ******** ******. G. Fedale Roofing & Siding completed the contracted work on Ms. ******’s property, and we stand by the quality and integrity of our services.
After thoroughly reviewing our records, including inspection reports, email correspondences, and site visits, we would like to clarify the following points:
No Verified Roofing Leaks: Multiple inspections have confirmed that the roof we installed is not leaking. Ms. ****** has not provided any evidence demonstrating a failure of our work or that the leaks she references are related to the completed project.
Good-Faith Refund for Chimney Work: We acknowledged a discrepancy regarding the chimney scope of work and, in good faith, refunded the full amount of $4,535.72 for work that was not performed. This matter has been resolved, and no further action is required.
Outstanding Balance Owed to G. Fedale: Ms. ****** has an unpaid balance of $7,594.50 for the metal roof installation, which was completed after the flat roof. Despite multiple attempts to collect payment, this balance remains unresolved. At this time, we are continuing our course of action to recover the funds owed to us.
Communication Boundaries Moving Forward: Due to repeated instances of inappropriate and hostile behavior directed toward our staff and subcontractors by Ms. ******’s mother, including the use of profanity and verbal aggression both on-site and via phone, we will no longer correspond with or conduct business with her. Any future communication must be handled directly with Ms. ******** ****** or Mr. ******. Our team deserves to work in a professional and respectful environment, and we will not subject our employees to continued mistreatment.
      Final Position
At this time, no refund will be issued, as our work was completed per the contract and no valid warranty claims have been submitted. If Ms. ****** has a legitimate warranty concern regarding our completed work, we encourage her to follow our standard warranty claim process for evaluation.
Additionally, we will continue with the necessary steps to collect the outstanding balance owed to our company.
Please consider this our formal response to the complaint. Should any further mediation be necessary, we are open to reviewing documented, fact-based concerns in an appropriate setting.
      Sincerely,

      Chief Operating Officer

Better Business Bureau: I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to my complaint and have determined that this does not resolve my  issue.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below. First and foremost: cease all attempts to harm my family's reputation with these false, exaggerated accusations immediately. Over the past 2+ years, our home has sustained further damage as a result of your company's shoddy workmanship and negligent project oversight employed throughout these roofing jobs. As we know, your company's inability to provide transparency regarding the work performed on my home is what caused the rift in this business relationship, as well as our frustration and distrust of your company. GFedale Roofing took advantage of us, misrepresented its ability to deliver quality workmanship, and took efforts to conceal unacceptable/incomplete workmanship. We are rightfully upset.Metal roof job:This is a separate issue from the unfinished project mentioned in the complaint but I will respond anyway. Your company installed a faulty, structurally unsafe metal roof. The new roof poses a serious safety hazard due to the overhanging icicle issue. You offered to replace the metal panel with the up-turned edge that was causing this; however, as stated before, due to the relationship/trust breakdown, I cannot trust nor allow your company to perform any further work on my home. Further, your company failed to securely anchor the metal roof panel under our adjoining 2nd floor roof’s siding, as well as failed to properly seal/terminate the transition area between the two roofs, resulting in water entry into the transition. Over time, this has caused our siding to pull back and separate from the roof edge, allowing water underneath the siding and damaging the wood. We later learned your company knew the transition/siding area was not secured adequately, despite telling us there were no issues and pressuring us into submitting payment. This roof will need redone by a competent and trustworthy roofer.Leaking:We know for a fact the initial chimney flashing (large holes/gaps, flashing barely held on by caulk) and scupper box jobs were potential sources of leaking. The company stood by this work despite the obvious quality control issues that we had confirmed by other roofers/inspectors. Our high-moisture readings persisted below these areas post job completion. In addition, I had visible water leaking through my 2nd floor ceiling in April 2024, as you are aware and were shown evidence of - both photos and video. This was a pre-existing leak that we showed your company in the beginning. This is why we came to you in the first place and accepted every recommendation you provided. Despite assuring us that the $21,000 worth of contracted work proposed would solve our water troubles, your company was unable to stop this leaking. As a result, our home has incurred even more damage to this area over the past two years.Final Position:The work was not completed per the contract. Your company failed to complete the scupper box installation, despite taking full payment for the job in January 2023 - $21,295. I do not accept the unfinished scupper box you left us with. That is thievery. Please refund the $2502.60 I was charged for the scupper box immediately. Complaint ID: 22918446

      Dear BBB Representative,
We appreciate the opportunity to provide clarification on this matter. While we take customer concerns seriously, we must reiterate that the work was completed in accordance with the contract, and no refund will be issued.

Metal Roof Installation – The metal roof was installed per contract specifications. The customer has refused our offer to address any potential issues. However, if there is a legitimate warranty claim, we are open to reviewing it under the terms of the agreement. Payment for the metal roof remains due in full.

Second-Floor Leak – The reported leak is not related to the third-floor roof work we completed. During an on-site inspection with Meredith, we identified that the water entry was due to a severely cracked stucco wall and faulty window capping, which we documented and communicated to the homeowner. This was not part of our original scope of work. The homeowner has chosen not to address these issues, which remain the likely cause of the leak.

Scupper Box Claim – The scupper box work was performed. If the homeowner has specific evidence proving incomplete work, we are open to reviewing it, but there is no basis for a refund.

We remain committed to professionalism and customer satisfaction, and we encourage the homeowner to address any valid warranty concerns through the appropriate channels. In the meantime, we request full payment for the completed metal roof installation.
      Sincerely,

While deciding on shingles, we asked about staining with our color choice. Sales person’s response… “shouldn’t be a problem, the shingles are stain resistant.” There is a dark stain showing on the front roof of our house. When claim initiated with GAF, its response “staining from downspout is not covered by our warranty.” Your sales contact did not cover this and lead us to make an improper color selection. Now we are being told we are responsible for the cost of replacing the shingles and installing a longer downspout. This should be the responsibility of Fedale, not us, the homeowner. Poor to no counseling on part of the Fedale representative. When I communicated this to the warranty office, the response was “we will share this with the staff as a learning opportunity”. So, I’m paying for future training??? #2. Leak at bump out in kitchen area. The repair person visited, found the problem and supposedly rectified it. However, we were told the damage to the interior ceiling drywall is not covered by the warranty. When the roof was installed 3 years ago, I pointed out this was a problem area in the past. I was assured that it would addressed. Now, more cost to us, the homeowner, after spending on a roof replacement only 3 years ago.

Overall these guys did a good job. The roof looks nice, however they left a lot to be desired. I had asked someone to come out and look at a few of the shingles to nail them down cuz they look like they weren't secure and I was told they would be out to do that and they never came back. I had two dormer windows that protruded out from the roof that were totally left unsealed and it looks horrible. So basically the windows look worse than before. Ruining the whole appearance of the roof. I was contacted by them to fix that issue but they wanted money to do it. I felt like I shouldn't have to pay anything since this was not discussed with me beforehand or after they just left it like it was. If they would have discussed it with me beforehand and we could have worked that into the final price. That's one thing but they never did. I think these guys just wanted to come out, make quick money and get out as I never had any contact with any sort of supervisor throughout the whole day of the roof install. I mean overall it looks nice but definitely a lot of issues for $8,200 that I paid.

While we understand the customer isn't happy, everything was installed properly and according to the contracted signed by the customer.
The contract clearly stated that we were not removing the step flashing or aluminum siding (on purpose) and leaving as is & also has a picture stating so.  The customer is upset that once we removed the multiple layers of shingles & left the step flashing and aluminum siding as is (as the contract states & the customer signed off on & agreed to) that now the bottom of the siding and step flashing is exposed as we removed multiple layers, however, this was fully stated in the contract and approved by the customer.
We returned on 9/16 to address some shingles sticking up around the dormers and that was resolved. The roof is watertight. There is no issue with leakage. The customer wanted to keep their current siding and flashing which was the customer's desire. While the aesthetics might not be as envisioned by keeping the existing siding and flashing, everything is sealed and watertight.

I hired G. Fedale back in July 2022 to fix a roof gutter problem I had. I signed a contract for the work to be done and gave them a $200.00 deposit. After calling their office at least 5 times no one would tell me why they couldn't set up a date for the repairs. Nobody would return my calls but they finally emailed me to tell me the quote they gave me was lower than it should have been. I cancelled the contract August 9, 2022 and since then I've been promised a refund by phone and by email telling me as of August 22, 2022 the money would be refunded that week. Its now Sept. 16, 2022 still no $200.00 refund. I've called them numerous times and I'm ignored and told to call the estimators cell phone but he never gets back to me. Hes the one who finally emailed me not returned my calls to tell me my money would be refunded the week of August 22, 2022. I have his email if you want me to send it to you. I'm on a fixed income and the $200.00 is a lot to me. Please help me get my money back. Thank you.
