I am writing to file a formal complaint regarding the unprofessional behavior and rudeness of an employee, ***** ***** who works at Sterling Credit Corporation. I have been attempting to resolve an issue regarding the lien release letter for my loan account that was paid off. Despite my repeated requests, *** **** has been uncooperative and ************* provide some context, I settled my loan with Sterling Credit Corporation on March 3, 2025, and after the final payment, I was entitled to receive a lien release letter to clear the title. I reached out to *** ***** who, instead of providing assistance or addressing my request, was rude and unprofessional in his responses. On multiple occasions, I requested the lien release letter, and *** **** not only failed to provide it but also refused to give any clear explanation for the delay.I believe that as a customer who has fully paid off their loan/settlement, I am entitled to this documentation. *** ***** behavior was not only frustrating but also disappointing, especially considering that I have fulfilled my financial obligations.I would appreciate your assistance in addressing this matter and ensuring that the lien release letter is promptly provided. Moreover, I hope that you can look into the professionalism of *** ***** as his conduct reflects poorly on the company he represents.Thank you for your attention to this matter. I look forward to your prompt response and resolution of my complaint.

This company took over my car loan without my knowledge or consent in 2021. I've been paying on an ****** loan for my car. I've paid over ****** to date ************************** stated today I owe ******** and none of my payments have went to pay down the principle. She stated I would not be paying my car off in May of 2025 that i would owe 2 more years after I had been told if I made 2 payments per month it would be paid off in full. They are not only scamming me but many others. It appears they changed my original contract from the previous finance company.

      Customer Answer

      Date: 09/27/2024

I signed a contract with the original finance company who sold my contract to Stirling Credit.

Stirling credit has given me misleading and inaccurate information regarding my request to pay ****** 2x per month to ensure my car would be paid off by May 2025.

The woman I spoke with in early September 2024 told me my entire second payment would go strictly to principle and not to interest, then I could reach my goal of payoff by May 2025.

That is the goal that I have is to pay the principle down and the car paid off sooner.

I have not been satisfied with Stirling Credit since they took over my loan. Every issue I have tried to resolve has been unprofessional.

The additional ****** being paid each month needs to be applied solely to the principle balance as I was told it would.

I have recently attempted to dispute some items on my consumer report, but I have only received responses stating that the information has been verified. I did not request a reinvestigation for the item listed below. According to 15 U.S. Code *****, a consumer reporting agency is only allowed to furnish a consumer report in certain circumstances such as in response to a court order, subpoena, or with written consent from the consumer. The information can also be used for credit transactions, employment, insurance underwriting, and other purposes. Certain government agencies can also receive the information. I never gave permission for the items listed below to be reported and they fall under the exclusion category of 15 U.S. Code 1681a(2)(B), which states that a consumer report does not include information about transactions between the consumer and the person making the report, unless the consumer was informed and given the opportunity to opt-out. Additionally, a consumer report does not include authorization or approval of a credit card extension of credit, a decision on a credit request made by a third party, or certain communications. The item listed is a transaction that is being reported, which is a violation of the mentioned US codes. If these items continue to be reported, you will be held liable under 15 U.S. Code § 1681n - Civil Liability for Willful Noncompliance. This law states that any person who fails to comply with the requirements regarding consumer reports can be liable to the consumer for actual damages

      Business Response

      Date: 02/17/2023

It appears that Ms. ****** has filed a complaint with the BBB alleging violations of the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) arising out of an erroneous credit report prepared by a credit bureau from information supplied, in part, by Sterling Credit Corp. (Sterling). Ms. ****** alleges that Sterling is in violation of the FCRA because she did not give consent to Sterling to provide said negative credit information to the credit bureau. Sterling maintains no wrongdoing because it is not a credit reporting agency or user of reported information. The information provided to the credit bureau was not a consumer report and Sterling conveyed only information based on its own credit experience with Ms. ******.  In addition, there is no showing that Sterling willfully or negligently failed to comply with the FCRA.

Sterling understands that pursuant to the Gramm Leach Bliley Act, consumers must be given the right to opt-out of, or prevent, a financial institution from disclosing non-public personal information about them to a nonaffiliated third party unless an exception to that right applies. In this scenario, an exception does apply and pursuant to Sterling’s Privacy Notice, which was provided to Ms. ******, Sterling does in fact share her information for everyday business purposes such as to report to a credit bureau. According to 15 U.S.C.A. 6802(e) (6)(A) Ms. ****** cannot limit this sharing and thus does not have an option to opt-out.

I received a check from Sterling Credit Corporation via USPS. I am not sure why they sent me this check for $2,650.00. I have never had any business dealing with Sterling Credit Corporation. Ms. ****** ******* contacted Sterling Credit Corp regarding the check she received. The check was fraudulent and thanks to Ms. *******, Sterling Credit Corp was able to address the fraudulent check immediately and notify our bank, Park National. The accounting manager at Sterling Credit spoke to Ms. ******* personally and apologized for any issue this may have caused her. She informed Ms. ******* that unfortunately at this time of year, fraud is abundant. The accounting manager informed Ms. ******* that Sterling Credit Corp did not issue the check to her, nor was Ms. ******* a customer of Sterling Credit Corp. She advised Ms. ******* NOT to attempt to cash the check but to take to her bank and inform them of the fraud so they could diligently and properly dispose of the fraudulent check. After speaking with Ms. *******, and with her cooperation and assistance, Sterling Credit Corp. was able to absolve itself from any wrongdoing to Ms. *******. She was very cooperative and willing to assist Sterling Credit with the fraudulent check issue. To our knowledge, Ms. ******* was satisfied with the outcome of our discussion, and has no further issues with Sterling Credit Corp.
