On 3/11/22, Anthony came out to give a bid to tile our shower. The bid was written as two scenarios, depending on if the tile could be removed without damage to underlying wallboard, or not. We accepted the bid, he told me what materials to purchase via text, and he began demo on 3/13/22. After he began demo, it was determined that cement board would need to be replaced. On 3/18/22, he indicated via text he was done, and wanted to be paid. He said he would come back if there were any issues, and that I would need to rinse and wipe down the walls to remove the remaining film. That evening, I texted him that there was an area without grout that would need to be fixed, and he responded honest mistake. The next morning, I found several other areas needing grout, and texted him, asking to come back to finish , with no response. Late evening he responded that he had been sleeping as he was not feeling well, and would come back to fix. Then he texted that the areas were no problem, but probably tomorrow, depending on how he was feeling. Rude response. Messaged on 3/23, no response, 3/25, messaged asking him to come back this weekend to finish as it has been a week since he got paid. No response till 13 hours later that he has been sick, and will get it done soon. As of today, no response. He also left grout all over the tile that required six and 1/2 hours of work for me using an acid solution, scraper, and scrub pads to remove, as well as a mess on the ceiling and walls. He put a gouge in the wall, chipped the enamel tub. The ceiling will not come clean and will need to be repainted. He also left cement/grout residue all over the courtyard bricks, which had to be power washed, twice, and is still not gone. He also dropped screws down the drain, and allowed it to fill with cement/grout residue requiring it to be snaked. I request to be compensated for the cost of the materials and labor to correct the issues, and he needs to finish the job.

    Business response

    04/29/2022

Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2022/03/29) */ I completed the job I was hired to do by ***** ********. Upon completion of the job, She checked over my work & complemented it saying "What a good job" I had done & paid me in full/Job was completed to her satisfaction. As for some of the grout that did get on the ceiling, she stated that it was no problem & she would paint over it. She then texted me on 3/19/22 @ 9:00am with some pictures showing a three small spots in which I must have missed some grout, I replied to her (the same day, @ 2:39pm)stating that it was an honest mistake and I would be back to fix it. I further explained to her that I had been previously sick and diagnosed with a "severe case of pneumonia" & was out sick for the entire month of Feb. & returned to work when I was feeling well- (working for ***** was the 1st job I took on since being sick) Well on the last day I worked at *****s home I started not feeling well again but stayed on anyway to finish the job that day & well into the evening (which was another mistake on my behalf because I was then admitted back to the hospital-where I was told that the infection & pneumonia was still present in my lungs. (If needed-I can provide hospital documents from 2 separate visits to the ER where I was in fact diagnosed with a "severe pneumonia".) I explained to ***** that I was sick & also contagious, & that once I was cleared & feeling well I would be back to fix the small areas of grout that were missed. She responded in an understanding text & it was confirmed that I would in fact be back to fix it- which she was fine with. (I have text messages between ***** & myself to prove all this, & can also provide if needed) As far as her other complaints, these come as a surprise to me considering she had none when looking over everything & not only paying me in full (with no complaints) but also complementing the job. Again, it was already confirmed (before this complaint was filed against me) that I would in fact be back to fix the grout by the end of this week once I'm cleared. Pneumonia is contagious & I do not want to risk passing it on/having a client come down with it. (I actually did a job for a different client at their home & they were sick with pneumonia & later informed me on it after it was to late & I had already gotten it from them) I apologize for being sick & I take pride in my work. I thought ***** & I already worked this out about the grout. (In the texts, that is how it reads) So the conclusion was that I'd be back to fix the grout. (I have a doctor appointment Thursday 3/31/22 & if cleared will make arrangements with ***** to return to her home to fix it. As I previously stated in the text above, I can provide records if needed. (Text messages that were between ***** ******** & myself. As well as records/documents showing that I was in fact hospitalized & diagnosed with a "severe pneumonia" If there's any further questions or you may have for me. Please feel free to contact me. Thank you -Anthony M. Consumer Response /* (3000, 7, 2022/04/02) */ (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) I di tell Anthony he did a good job BEFORE the grouting. The issues arose at that stage, to my knowledge. I have attached a picture of the tile installation prior to the grouting, which did indeed look great. The examples of his work posted on line show the jobs completed and cleaned, which is what should have been done on my job. Instead, he told me I would need to wipe down the walls to remove the film the next day. We had texts regarding the fact that I wanted to see it dry before I paid him, but he demanded to be paid on Friday evening. I did not have an opportunity to review it with him, as he left my home without telling me he was leaving. I knew he was not feeling well, so it seemed to be no big deal to rinse and wipe down the walls as he instructed. When I attempted to do this was when I discovered all of the residue was like cement, and it took me 6 1/2 hours of work to remove it. I also discovered at that time that the drain was completely blocked, and found screw dropped down it, and that it was completely blocked with grout/cement debris. This needed to be snaked out. I also thought that the mess in the courtyard was just dust that would sweep up or blow away, however, we found that it was stuck on the courtyard bricks, grill, and patio furniture, which required two sessions of power washing, and some still remains. The attached pictures are the one prior to grouting, and several of how he left the shower, as well as the courtyard mess. I would like him to finish the missing grout and compensate us for the hours of work spent cleaning up after him. The conditions he left are unacceptable. Thank you Business Response /* (4000, 9, 2022/04/14) */ On Thursday April 7th I went back to the customer's house ***** ********, and finished grouting the spots I mistakenly missed. When I showed up to the residence and went into the bathroom to look at the shower to see how many spots needed to be filled in so I could mix the grout and her husband walked in and tried telling me that the grout wasn't right and there is light and dark spots through out the grout lines. Which was a surprise to me because this was the first time of hearing of this issue. I told them maybe it was the acid they used to clean the tile. Prior to me doing this shower they previously hadthere other shower done and that has the same problem with the grout lines. Same grout same manufacturer. So I told ***** ******** maybe it was the acid you used or the product itself. There's nothing I or anyone can do to change the grout color you add water and mix its simple. I've never had a problem and all my years with grout changing colors or having light and dark spots. About the issue with them spending 6 1/2 hours cleaning with the tile with acid they should of never done that If they thought there was a problem they should of contacted me and let me clean the tile or hired someone and then they could of provided me with a invoice or receipt of the cost for the clean up. Not say they spent 6 1/2 hours cleaning and then try to tell me they want to be reimbursed for the time the spent on cleaning. Anyone can come up with a number and say you owe me this. It doesn't work like that in the business world. My conclusion to this is I went back and finished the job. She did pay me in full and tell me it looked beautiful so when I got the email from you guys it was a surprise to me. I fulfilled my obligation to the contract that we both signed. I'm sorry she has whatever problem she has. But if she wasn't satisfied payment in full should of never been given until she was satisfied. Again I apologize for any inconvenience to anyone how everyone was a blessed day. THANKS. Consumer Response /* (4200, 11, 2022/04/15) */ (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) I have attached text messages between us, or at least tried to. I am trying to demonstrate his lack of responsiveness, and poor attitude. There are days between his responses to me, and failure to acknowledge the mess he left, or take any responsibility. The pictures of his work on his posts are completed, including clean up. He did not do this for our job, and we could not just leave it for him to come back and do because he would not give a date when he would come back. He is still not taking any responsibility. You can see that he demanded to be paid, even though I expressed to him that I wanted to see it dry before paying him. As I indicated in my earlier response, I could not look it over with him as he left my home without telling me he was leaving. If I had the opportunity to look at it with him, I would have noticed the stuck on residue, and I could have made arrangements to come back and finish. realize he did not feel well, but that is no excuse for not responding in a timely fashion, leaving a huge mess, and displaying a poor attitude with a customer. I want others to be aware of the issues so they are cautious about engaging him. This is about the fact that the work he did for me was not the same as the work he displays when advertising for work. He did not satisfactorily complete the work, as we had to do hours of work to clean up after him. The service provided was poor. Business Response /* (4000, 13, 2022/04/19) */ I can provide text messages to dispute everything she is saying, and texts that me and my wife where texting back in forth while I sat at the customer's house and waited for her to send me the payment through zelle. Because she wasn't home at first when I finished. She did arrive home when I was in the clean up process. When I got done I still had to wait about 30 minutes so she could send the money. She did look over the work before she paid me. It was after 9pm when I finally got paid and done so of course I left after getting paid because the job was done and it was late. Again Iam done with this matter and I have text messages I can provide to back up everything I am saying. I tried to put the texts messages on here but they failed to upload. Thanks for your time.
