I was admitted to HCA Brandon Regional hospital by the ** department. I was taken up to my room on Sept 25,2023. We arrived at my room at 5pm. The doctor assigned to me did not put in any orders for me for 22 hours! The staff couldn't treat me with the exception of vitals because no doctors orders. Despite the nurses on duty contacting the doctor through the night, he never responded. By 09/26/2023 I spoke with the head nurse (2 times) once in the morning once in the afternoon, and she attempted to contact the doctor. I didn't have doctors orders until 3pm on 09/26/2023. I sat in my room almost ****************************************************************************** I asked to be assigned to a new doctor and was told they couldn't do that. Brandon Hospital employs this doctor, no one should have to wait almost 24 hours for doctors orders.

On May 15 I was admitted to Brandon Hospital for vomiting and severe abdominal pain. A CT scan was performed at Brandon and I was told my vomiting and pain was due to ovarian cysts. On May 17 Brandon discharged me. At the time of discharge I was still in severe pain, vomiting green and brown bile. I asked multiple times of the nurses and doctors to exam my scan and case further but they said there was nothing else they could do for me. Within 24 hours of being discharged I was admitted to TGH with a small bowel obstruction that required surgery. At the time of being admitted to TGH I was so severely blocked up, I was vomiting stool and extremely dehydrated. I had a doctor not affiliated with Brandon read my CT scans and confirm that the small bowel obstruction was in fact on the scan and missed by Brandon and they should have never discharged me. I called Brandon hospital at the end of June and asked them to reread my CT to scans to confirm the misdiagnosis. I received a letter in the mail from Brandon that said if I had any additional questions to contact ****** or ***** from the patient safety team. I have left multiple messages with both parties and neither picks up the phone or has returned any phone calls. Brandon discharging me with a small bowel obstruction could have had catastrophic consequences. I am looking for a return phone call from management or patient safety.

On 5/21/2022 I went to *** Florida Brandon with my wife ******************************************* with a laceration on her hand. The physician that attended me was *********************** MD. I paid all the deductibles at the Hospital ($500) and when I asked the person that was servicing via the kiosk, the *** representative confirmed that the $500 was the only expense to incur. HCA has refused to bill my secondary insurance (CHAMPVA) for services I received in April 2021. On multiple occasions I even called my secondary insurance and then called HCA to have the VA verify that I do in fact have insurance through champva and they give information on how to bill. Well once the phone hangs up they seem to forget what they've been told and not bill champva. Most recently we seemed to have it finally worked out and then I got a bill from a collector on behalf of HCA. CHAMPVA is not TRICARE.

Business Response /* (1000, 6, 2022/06/29) */ We are in receipt of the complaint filed by ***** ******* and have thoroughly reviewed this matter. HCA Florida Brandon Hospital strives to provide excellent customer service and would first like to apologize for any confusion or inconvenience experienced by the patient. Primary insurance was billed and paid which left a balance of $600.00 as patient responsibility. HCA Florida Brandon Hospital does not show there to be any secondary insurance information being provided at the time of service. After multiple unsuccessful attempts of verification, we found there to be no eligibility for the patient with CHAMPVA. We do show the patient paid $600.00 on 06/23/2022. Due to primary insurance leaving a patient responsibility, no eligibility for secondary insurance, CHAMPVA, and the patient paying the remainder of the balance in full, the account reflects a $0.00 balance at this time. If the patient needs further assistance please have them contact HCA Florida Brandon Hospital's Business Office at XXX-XXX-XXXX. Thank You.
