Ibis Plumbing came to my home to repair a hot water pipe leak behind a wall in my garage. A preliminary estimate was between $250 and $300 to effect the repair. The work was done on May 16, 2022. When the technician submitted an invoice late in the afternoon he said the leak had been repaired and water was no longer seeping into the garage at the base of the wall. The invoice was for $425. Although higher than the estimate, we paid the bill. The additional amount was judged to be worth ending the persistent leakage problem. Early the following morning my daughter and I departed for Orlando where she was to participate in the Florida State Special Olympics. A cloth which had been used to sop up the leakage in the garage remained on the floor. After we returned from Orlando on Saturday, May 21, I picked up the cloth from the floor and noticed it was very moist. I wrung it out and replaced it on the floor. When I again inspected it the following day the cloth was again very wet. On Monday, May 23 Ibis was informed of the situation. They claimed it was a new leak and would require a new fee to repair. We claimed the repair we had contracted for was to stop the leakage which was not completed satisfactorily. Ibis refused to send someone out to inspect the situation. Several weeks passed and I noticed my check for $425 had not been cashed. Thinking that perhaps the check had been lost I put a stop payment on it I thought this might induce Ibis to reinspect the leak site and complete the repair. I was certainly willing to pay the invoice in full had that occurred. No call from Ibis was forthcoming, reinforcing my suspicion of a lost check. Finally, on July 23, we received a call from Ibis threatening an action in Small Claims Court because of the stopped check. I again repeated that the leak had not been repaired as we had contracted. Ibis again showed no willingness to inspect. that the pipe continued to leak

      Business response

Business Response /* (1000, 7, 2022/08/17) */ Business response taken verbally by BBB: The plumbing in this customer's house needs to be redone. We fixed the leak we were hired to fix and their plumbing sprung another leak in a different area. They then put a stop order on the check and now owe the full balance on services provided. We will be pursuing this issue in court. Consumer Response /* (3000, 9, 2022/08/19) */ (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) I am attaching eight photos of the leakage problem and inadequate repair. Photos 1 and 2 are of the repair work done on May 16. Note the repair work does not extend to the floor where the leakage was occurring. There was no attempt to open the dry wall to inspect the lower area. Photos 3 through 6 show the leakage at the floor level after the Ibis repairman says the leak had been stopped. Photo 6 is the sopping cloth which was on the floor behind the water heater. It is obvious the leak had not been stopped. Photos 7 and 8 are of the areas below the Ibis repair after the dry wall has been cut to expose the area between the attempted repair and the floor. Note the green color of the piping throughout, particularly below the spot where the pipe goes through the wall stud. You can also see the darkened color of the stud. It is wet to the touch from the attempted repair area to the floor. No attempt was ever made by Ibis to inspect this area or to effect repairs or even to come out and inspect the situation after my complaint. Demands and threats of legal action are no substitute for quality work and responsiveness to customer requests.
