No star. Poor service poor respond to check error. Too long to resolve a problem that they made. People answering cannot speak English or spell. Will not take care of or talk to people to correct their errors.Certegy Payment Solutions, LLC

Certegy Case Number 536789
Certegy Payment Solutions, LLC (“Certegy”) is a specialty consumer reporting agency that provides subscribing merchants with recommendations for check acceptance at their request. To protect both consumers and retailers against losses from fraudulent or returned checks, in addition to maintaining a file of unpaid returned checks, Certegy has developed an automated system that predicts the likelihood of these outcomes in connection with a particular check. Check authorization is not an extension of credit. Since most merchants do not verify whether funds are available prior to cashing a check or accepting one as a form of payment, they may use our system to analyze the transaction for potential risk factors including, but not limited to, location, check writing and cashing history, check number, and amount. Our response provides the merchant with a recommendation as to whether or not the check is likely to be returned. It is then up to the merchant to determine whether they wish to take the risk of accepting the check. This service enables many of our clients to continue to offer check writing and cashing options that might not otherwise be available without protection from exposure to potential losses.

I received a personal check from a company for a service I completed. I attempted to cash the check at a ******* and ************************* the next day but was told that Cetergy blocked the ability to cash the check because I allegedly wrote a check to Target way back in March 2020. I NEVER wrote a check to Target. I don't write checks, let alone to Target. I contacted Target and they verified that I never wrote a check. EVER. As in it NEVER happened! I called Certegy back to tell them and demand they clear this up immediately and I was given the run around. As of now, this is still not resolved. Upon further research I see that Certegy has a "system" that "predicts" the likelihood that someone will try to cash or write a bad check. This is discriminatory! This is a company of people in *************** that swears they don't have a supervisor to talk to. This has to be fixed! Shut these outsourced companies down!Certegy Payment Solutions, LLC

I have perfect credit, but Kohl's wouldn't accept my check for $187! Now I'm freaked out because after calling Certegy, I had to give them my routing & checking number. I don't know who to trust anymore & what gives this company the right to my private info anyway??? I've had ID theft in the past and this just freaks me out all over again.Certegy Payment Solutions, LLC

They are absolutely awful, trying to cheat people out of their legitimate checks and then failing to even tell you why and instead deflecting by giving you a one-size-fits-all reason. It's too bad that actual businesses rely on their flawed recommendations to deny financial services to their customers. They should be outlawed, their process is completely intransparent, arbitrary, and without any possibility to appeal. I guess throwing out a big fraction of legitimate checks is perfectly fine for them. Probably their lame algorithms were made by summer interns. They could not care less about preventing normal hard-working people from accessing their legitimately earned money :(Certegy Payment Solutions, LLC

Tried to cash a vanguard retirement check and was declined at two stores. I’ve never had a problem before and don’t understand how or why it was declined. Ordered a copy of my credit report from them but since the allegedly don’t use credit reports I’m not sure what good it will do.Certegy Payment Solutions, LLC

I am writing this in hopes of stopping someone else from getting entangled in this mess. I am a employee of Kroger, a company you see often in these reviews. Before today, I genuinely didn't know what the Certegy errors were - but I am now at the end of one. They've told me and my managers they need all my information - a driver's license number, my social, etc. I refuse to offer it over the phone, opting to check online. There IS a site to check why your check declined, which is how I found this page. It tells me that there's a high risk with my check, which is just a basic payroll check, that I get every week from Kroger, and have for over 3 years now. Tells me it has my information, and thus they can now make this decision every time I want to cash my payroll checks from now until the end of time. Make no mistake, dear reader, this story gets stranger... In order to get this information out of Certegy, I needed to give up my driver's license number. You see, I cannot drive. I also don't have a valid instate ID, and have not had one since before Kroger switched to Certegy. There should be no way they have my driver's license number. But it gets even worse - I have no current bank account. I have never used a check in my life. There should be nothing it's flagging me for besides my prior payroll cashings, which has never gone wrong before. So what's the issue? Kroger, Walmart, etc. have most likely sold your previous information, which is saved (especially with Kroger - we do keep that info.) to Certegy. They now control whether or not you can cash payroll checks, give money to your friends, or pay for food. If you get your check bounced by Certegy, you need to stop shopping at that store immediately and make a report to the FTC.
