We contracted with ********** on April 8th, 2021. In June of 2023, more than two years later we had to hire an attorney to formally terminate ********** for breach of contract/negligence. This builder has not only left us with a great deal of financial complications to pick up where he abandoned the build but extreme emotional suffering for our family. We have repeatedly attempted to work with ********** to complete our home but due to the extended timeline, complete lack of professional communication and unwillingness to resolve issues we have had to move on. Here we are over 2 years from when we began and our home is not even dried in, so no roof, incomplete framing, no rough in for electrical and plumbing. The build progress was/is so neglected that he had to file a permit extension, without explanation or notice to us, the owners. The extension was done so with materials left on the build site since February 2023 and they have yet to be installed, again no communication directly stating what is needed as a change order to gain forward progression in the build.Even after we had the attorney reach out to formally terminate, we gave it one last chance to let all him review and communicate what was needed to move forward with the construction, he failed to respond. This is a very unfortunate and unacceptable experience, and we feel obligated to inform others so that they do not put their faith or money into business with **********. We feel he should no longer be allowed to operate and a licensed builder as he has demonstrated very poor construction management and unprofessional communication throughout the process. We have many lessons learned from this attempt to build our dream home with Cantrells, please learn from us that this is NOT the best choice for you and your familys dream to build your home.

I respect your opinion Mr. *** *****************, as the last two years in business for any contractor has been difficult. There was communication from myself, and the attorney. I replied the same way I will hear. Our contract states that any overages past the allotted budget that was agreed upon by both you, and the bank was set 3/31/21 when estimate was provided. That is when the job was quoted, and materials priced accordingly to market value at the time. During 2021 construction material cost, and labor rose over 20% during that summer. This included steel, concrete, lumber.. Not to mention fuel for machinery. During 2021-2022 the increase in cost rose to nearly 30%. Your financing took a little over two months to complete and close, on top of permitting time with engineers and other still working remotely. Therefore, our budget was shot before we even hit the ground running. You were well aware of this also the entire time, with the amendments we made to contract. You displayed exactly how you would take overages by getting extremely upset when the budget was met by installing the septic after price increases and lead times. You expected me to sign the $28,000 bill for the well, and we will just figure it out later. When I said we were at budget that it would come out of pocket things were not the best afterwards. At this rate the cost of living increase to budget during that time would have been at the least 20%. This is also why I discussed with the bank, and you possible financing options for you to cover $65,000+ in overages on our contract. Between the banks response, and your response there was no reassurance I would be paid for said overages along the way or at the end before CO. Please kindly take into consideration the stress, and financial hardship this has placed on myself and family also. Am I just supposed to go $65,000 plus in the whole on a build and hope you cover expenses? Figuring things out later does not work. I simply asked for reassurance of being paid. A side contract would have been sufficient with contract amount amendment. I definitely do not feel good about the situation, and is not what was intended for my first builds. This has been an extremely hard ****** the last two years just as I wrote you the other day!
