I signed a contract with this Century back in May 2024 to begin June 2024 for debt solutions. The contract clearly states that either party has the right to cancel at any time for any reason or no reason at all. When I signed the contract, payments were set to come out as an ACH debit on the 16th each month. The first payment in June 2024 was initiated on June 14, 2024 and came out with no issue. I am not disputing that payment. On July 11, 2024, I sent notice to Century Law Firm via email to 2 separate emails : ************************************ (the person I was led to believe was my contact and rep during this whole process) and ************************************ that I wanted to cancel my contract and for the company to not take the July payment out of my bank account. Neither contact replied to me via email that day or any other day until on July 16, 2024, when Century did in fact have the payment taken out of my account. On July 11, 2024, at 12:36 pm, *****, left me a voice mail on my phone that said the following "Hi ********. This is ***** giving you a call in regards to Century's credit adjustment program. I did receive your email and just did want to follow up with you. If you could give me a call back at my number is ************. I will speak with you soon." No mention of any other numbers or any other information. On Monday, July 15, 2024, at 10:14 am, ***** left another voice mail that said "Hi ********. This is ***** giving you a call in regards to Century's credit adjustment program. I did receive your email. I wanted to go ahead and cancel you out of everything. If you could just give me a call back. My number is ************. I will speak with you soon. Thanks Bye. No mention of any other numbers. On Tuesday, July 16th, Century did have the payment drafted from my account. *****'s narrative then changed to she was on PTO and she tried to tell me to call customer support to get it cancelled. I just want my money back for that July payment.

Century Law Firm is in receipt of the communication from *** ******; we appreciate the opportunity to respond. After receiving her complaint, we conducted a thorough review of her file to ensure that all issues are resolved promptly and effectively.

We want to assure *** ****** that our debt resolution program is voluntary, and clients have the right to cancel at any time for any reason. We did receive *** ******’ request to cancel on July 11, 2024, along with her request not to withdraw the payment due on July 16, 2024. Unfortunately, this was communicated to a department that does not handle cancellations, which caused a delay in processing her request. As a result, the payment was drafted on July 16, 2024, before our client support department was able to review her request. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience and frustration this has caused *** ******, and we are committed to correcting this as soon as possible.

As requested, we have closed *** ******’ file, and we are expediting her refund. We are currently processing the refund and intend to return any funds owed to *** ****** as soon as possible. Additionally, if this resulted in any overdraft fees from *** ******’ bank, we will gladly reimburse these fees. We ask *** ****** to contact us to provide details on any fees she incurred, and she will be refunded as quickly as possible.

We appreciate *** ****** reaching out to notify us of this issue, and we want to ensure she is satisfied with this resolution. If there are any additional questions or concerns, *** ****** may reach us directly at ************.

My husband and I signed up with this company being promised that it would be a 60 month process. We ran into some financial hardships, which they worked with us on those and payments. We were told wed be involved every time a settlement was made, sign off, etc. we called a few times to find out the status of where things were at..nobody would get back to us or give us the run around. Finally someone gave me info and I was shocked after 34 payments we were not even a qtr finished. The large accts were sittingI was told when they go to legal it costs more. I was told they would be talking to all creditors to avoid this. I was then told our acct had gone from 60 mths to 72 mths and then back down to 63 months..and they say I added an acct which took it to 98 mths. Now Im not dumb, but does that add up? Also their fees were to be done after 30 payments. That wasnt the case either. I have waisted 3 yrs and Im left with worse credit than when I started because now I have matters with the court. And since I asked about it, and tried to arrange a payment after they screwed up and took a payment from my acct when they shouldnt, they wouldnt work with me on payment and closing my acct. Im still to receive all the info on my open/unsettled/in court accounts and the money they owe me for their mistake they made in my checking. Which I suggested to them on using that money owed to me to pay on a couple small settlements they had to pay on, until I could make a full pymt at EOM. They sent an email closing it. I will follow up on here if they dont send me all my info so I can continue with the mess they made. They didnt help me, only caused lawsuits, along with no communication with other creditors. Along with telling me my term changed from a beginning 60 to 98 month term after saying I added one creditorwhich is a lie. I added none. And even if there had been one that they say - that was very small, and was included in the beginning. Dont trust them. They drag out.

Century Law Firm is in receipt of the communication from **************************; we appreciate the opportunity to respond. We regret to hear that ************************** is dissatisfied, and we have thoroughly reviewed her file to clarify her concerns.

************************** enrolled in Centurys debt resolution program, making her first payment on 10/9/2020. Between December 2020 and December 2021, three additional debts were added to her program. When these debts were added, the program term was extended rather than increasing the monthly payment amount, per Ms. ************ request.

Century cannot guarantee specific results due to various factors that can impact a clients program. Some factors include accounts involved in lawsuits, time in default prior to engaging Century, higher balances than initially reported at enrollment, skipping payments, creditor/collector changes in policies, and other reasons based on a clients specific circumstances.

In October 2023, we received a request from ************************** to skip her payment for that month. Unfortunately, we could not approve this request as funds were needed for active settlement agreements. ************************** then asked to reduce her payment that month. We were unable to review this request in time, and the full payment was deducted. We agreed to reduce the next payment amount by the amount of the overdraft fees ************************** incurred due to this error. Unfortunately, no payments have been made since that time.

Despite numerous attempts to have ************************** resume payments, and notifications that we may have to terminate our agreement, no payments were made. We were left with no choice but to terminate the agreement, and we are refunding any funds owed to **************************. Additionally, we will be refunding her for the amount of overdraft fees she incurred.

We have confirmed that the only fees charged were earned and outlined in our client agreement. We will be sending ************************** documentation regarding her active agreements so she can resume payments directly to her creditors, along with the signed documents for each debt added after she enrolled in the program. If ************************** has any additional questions or concerns, she may contact us directly at ************.

There are parts of this that are true and I had said those in my first complaint, there was never a conversation had to extend my time instead of raising my payment. There were also agreements that they would send me every settlement that they madeand I did not receive every one of those as told before they came to agreement.

As far as the skip A payment, that was approved, but had ********/******* tell me they sent the form over right away but it sat on a supervisors desk for 10 days!! And they sent it back to accounting being approved 4 days after my payment was taking out. There are a lot of things that they are trying to cover up. And this is one of the big ones. I feel like they didnt handle my agreement the best they could. I feel things slipped thru the cracks, they didnt handle my creditors in a timely manner, and allowed many of them to go to legal matters, costing me extra money.

I also wanted to add that when signing my official document, I was told there were no hidden fees, that we paid them in our first 30 payments and that was payment for their services..they kept adding on extra cost for legal fees, they kept taking out the $900 fee that should of been done. I have accounts that I had with them - after over 3 years that they never even made contact with. I feel a company like this should reach out to all creditors before they end in legal court, I was being served with papers a lot. Send them to them, but then I find its costing me morewhen I feel that should not be my fault. They should be in communication with every creditor once they take over as legal authority of my accounts, and I found that not to be true. I feel they owe me more money back. For extra fees I paid and should not have after the 30 months ($900) and the legal costs. I dont believe that should be my fault they allowed it to get to that point. It was an embarrassment to me, my husband and family being served with papers at our own home. After I entered a contract with them to avoid legal action and to negotiate on our behalf. There had not be that much time gone by before my husband and I realized we needed help and contacted them. (**** to begin the process).

for this is would be the additional fees for what was the extra 4 months (900x4 - $3600) and all legal fees we paid from our payments towards lawyers, court costs. I am requesting a ledger from them showing from my first payment to my last of where every dime of my money went. After that I will know the legal/court fees owed. And I do have documents they sent me from legal matters so I know which were sent.

I also asked for a complete breakdown of my accounts, what the status is with them, what collection agency they are with now, who has been settled, which ones are in a settlement agreement at this time. I did not receive any of this over the past 3 years, they were getting all documents of communication - besides papers being served.

I feel Ive been thrown to the wolves to figure it out since Im no longer a client and that is not a professional way to do business. I sent the request for this stuff in 3-4 different emails from everyone I had as a contact there and I received a generic email back from a non communication email.

We appreciate ************************** reaching out and providing additional feedback. We aim to address all of her outstanding concerns in this response.

When clients request to add a debt to an existing program, we offer two options: they can either increase their monthly payments or extend the program term. According to our records, ************************** was unable to increase her monthly payments. Additionally, she agreed to the extension each time by signing a form to approve adding each debt. These forms were sent to her following her complaint.

Our policy is to send clients every settlement offer for approval before finalizing them. We will review Ms. ************ file to ensure this protocol was followed and we will address any discrepancies with our team.
We acknowledge we received the request to skip a payment, which was declined as mentioned in our previous response. ************************** indicated she could make a partial payment, which was approved, but unfortunately, we did not process this update before the payment was drafted. We apologize for this oversight and believe we have adequately compensated ************************** for the mistake.

As previously mentioned, Century cannot guarantee specific results, nor can we predict when creditors might take legal action. When this occurs, we prioritize resolving these accounts as quickly as possible. Upon enrollment, Century contacts each creditor to inform them that we represent the client. Immediate resolution of each debt is not possible as the client must have sufficient funds available in their savings account; therefore, we must wait for monthly payments to accrue to pay creditors.

There seems to be some confusion regarding the fees ************************** was charged. We have confirmed that no additional fees were charged beyond those outlined in our client agreement. We are happy to walk her through her savings account ledger, which she can access, if she would like to discuss this further.

Since receiving Ms. ************ complaint, we have sent her all documentation related to her enrolled accounts so she can resume payment plans and contact her creditors directly. If any documents were not received, we ask that she let us know what is still needed, and we will provide them as soon as possible. We want to ensure ************************** has everything necessary to manage her accounts and are glad to assist with anything she may need.

    Customer Answer

    Hello,

I have read your message. And I believe it to be false. I was not sent every letter for settlements made or asked approval on them. Nor did you deny my request to skip a payment. You only offered me a half payment for the following month AFTER I requested to skip a payment because of the mistake you made. I was specifically told my one of the woman that I worked with that it sat on a Supervisors desk for at least 10 days prior to being sent back down to accounting WITH approval to skip the month, the issue with that was it was sent to them 3-4 days AFTER my payment was to pull. She apologized and said she was going to talk with her Supervisor to see what happened. When called back I was told there was new procedures and training going on throughout the departments and didnt know how it happened. Only then was I offered the following month half a payment.
also, at one point I called to ask about payoff of our account. I was told the balance, and also told that if we did pay out account off early wed save about $20,000 because she said it would save the fees they charge every time they have to process a payment. So paying it off early would save us money. In the beginning I was told there was no hidden fees, etc.

They have literally dropped us like we are nothing. I still have not gotten a single piece of paper showing me a list of accounts open/settled, any accounts with legal action on them, accounts that still have settlements to pay on, or letters listing who I need to contact to get ahold of anyone for any of my accounts. Ive only received 2 or 3 letters from *********** saying that they were notified that Century Law Firm was no longer handling our account anymore and these I received in the mail specifically on July 8th, which was only 5 DAYS after they said they would no longer be helping us. Mind you there was a holiday in there and a Sunday where no mail was being delivered. I believe this was in the works for them well before July 3rd 24.  And if they are that fast to getting letters out terminating their representation of us, why are they so slow to send me everything I need for accounts so I can look into them??

they have made a real mess of this for us. Like I stated in my last message I believe I am still owed money for their fees and also the legal fees they are making at my expense, by not talking to all my creditors. I hired them to do a job for me and it seems its only worse!!

    Customer Answer

Sorry I never saw another message come thru from you. As far as Im concerned this matter is not resolved. I have asked numerous times thru this thread and in emails attaching people within the company that I have talked to, and requested that all my information they have be sent to me. I dont know how I can be more clear than to say send me any and all information you have regarding my account I will go through it all and decide what I need and what I dont. Instead I get this generic customer service response back from a generic email, not even one of the Reps I have talked to, telling me to please contact them, I dont think its hard to send me all the paperwork and files they have for my creditors to me. Im asking for everything. Not one specific thing. They cut me lose from helping me like nothing and now I want everything that corresponded to my file and they cant even have the courtesy to send it to me. I want the files mailed, not emailed. I want everything so I can start straightening things out.

In July of 2020 I enrolled into a debt consolidation program with century law. I was of course promised savings and timeline to be completed with the program. Over the past 4 years they have negotiated and came to terms with a couple of my debt but not at all like I was promised. I was also told once enrolled I could cancel my program at any time without repercussions and during my program the fees I pay to them “century law” my attorney would be the only attorney fees possible even if a debt collector sued me. Also my debts owed would stop accumulated interest on the accounts. That has not been the case. Of the accounts settled, most settled at almost full amounts and one, citi financial card that I owed around 10,000 was settled at the full amount plus 10% plus over 5,000 of the plaintiffs attorney fees. I have since tried to cancel my program and they basically refuse. They say I need to sign an email they don’t send or a manager will call me etc. I have also had to pay my bank $30 to put a stop payment because they won’t remove autopay nor give me my money out of the escrow they have. I do believe what they are doing is illegal but I just want to cancel and get what I have left. I’m working with a bank to refinance my house to pay these debts I have but the underwriter needs payoff amounts to whom the cash goes and century law just gives me the run around and I can’t contact my debtors direct because I have an attorney listed. Century law is basically refusing to be fired. I even went as far as trying to have a three way call with my banker just to try and get the payoff amounts my attorney refused to talk and actually hung up on me because my banker was speaking. I have also went to centurylawinc.com to find the cancellation form but have been unsuccessful in my search.

While Century cannot guarantee specific results for any client, we always strive to reach the best possible outcome. I enrolled for debt relief/negotiation with Century Law Firm in December 2020 with about $23,000 in debt split between 3 debtors. They promised to negotiate my debt by at least 40% & estimated it would take me 36 months to achieve debt relief. Fast forward - I received 2 tax forms this year from 2 of the debtors - 1 wrote off $7000 - the total debt & the other $4700/$7500 of the original debt. Now they are telling me that the $21,880 that Ive paid them is not enough & I will not satisfy the last debt owed until 7/2025. Im no mathematician but still that doesnt quite add up. *** contacted them multiple times & never can get a straight answer. They use a 3rd party service to process payments & after reviewing the ledger of my account, its clear there are many fees that were not originally disclosed.

I was dooped by Century Law Firm/Centennial into signing up for their program. Over promising and under delivering is an understatement. Their salesperson did an excellent job of giving me all these grand promises and swiftly glossing over the gotcha clauses. Up front they promised to begin negotiating with creditors immediately. All they did was send the **** They refused to reach out until the accounts went into derfault and ruined my credit. As expected the creditors filed suit immediately and FINALLY they started "negotiating". One account was settled for 20%less and the other for 0%. Obviously this is well below the 40% discount that was verbally guaranteed by their sales lady. They collected their fees and since there was no longer any incentive to work for me, they sold me out and settled for 0%. Their big excuse is that they did not know the creditors would file suit which makes it harder to negotiate. If you didn't know your failure to communicate would result in a suit is insane. Now, they want me to pay an additional 50% over the original agreed upon amount. Stay away from these shysters! You can easily negotiate yourself and get their results without their 16% fee.

The **************** accounts show that all my debts were a charge off after I paid them over 4 years. Century Law stated that they would send a document to the creditor and credit bureau after the program was completed. That was never done. Communication is nonexistent.

I made an agreement with this company to resolve my debt. I have a payment schedule that shows my payment ending on 12/10/2023. They collected an extra payment on 1/10/2024 and after several calls and sitting on hold and accounting reviews they now say that they would need extend my payment another 17 payments (no prior notice) after looking into the breakdown they have collected more fees than were listed on the payment schedule and they are saying that some of my credit cards haven't even gotten a resolution. I have made 48 full payments to this company that I agreed upon of $1182.42 that was drafted from my checking account every month and then one additional payment they drafted beyond the agreement for a total of $57,938.58 and they say I have approximately $17,000 worth of debt and payments still to be made when my original debt 4 years ago was $76,000. Now i understand the fees I agreed to pay them for the program but they did not provide the services that they promised (negotiating my debt, paying the debt, and the guarantee that they promised only 48 payments was my job). I did not agree to any type of extension but now they have me at a bund just to hand back over my debt that I ruined my credit for them to handle? It's terrible business and I feel helpless after trusting them and fulfilling my obligations.

Century Law Firm is in receipt of the communication from *** *********; we appreciate the opportunity to respond. We are sorry to hear that *** ********* is dissatisfied. Century cannot guarantee specific results as there are many factors that can cause a client’s program to need revision. Some factors include accounts involved in lawsuits, time in default prior to engaging Century, higher balances than initially reported at enrollment, skipping payments, creditor/collector changes in policies, etc. It is part of our process to explain this to clients prior to enrolling in our debt resolution program. It is our goal to ensure all enrolled debts are resolved in order for our clients to receive all of the benefits of the program. Century has not charged fees beyond what is detailed in *** *********’s agreement, and included in her payment. We have had the opportunity to speak with *** ********* since she submitted this complaint and we believe we have addressed all of her concerns. Should she have any further questions or concerns, she may reach us at ************.

     Complaint: ********

I am rejecting this response because:  They stated the reasons "factors" that would cause me to need revision include all things that did not happen in my case.  There were not higher balances, i did not skip any payments, and they did not explain that prior to enrolling in the debt resolution program.  They provided me with an amortization schedule that detailed my final payment ending on 12/10/2023 as provided.  They also did not communicate the settlements with me.

They did not address my concerns, they just basically told me they didn't follow anything they promised and that I'm stuck with it.  I'm explained I am not happy with that option I feel this is terrible business practice and they did not live up to their end of what I paid them for.

    Regards,

We are sorry for any misunderstanding *** ********* may have had at the time she enrolled in our program. Our client agreement thoroughly explains how our program is based on projections, using previous settlement data, and the payment schedule is estimated using these projections. We are unable to guarantee specific results as each client’s circumstances are different, and we cannot anticipate how aggressively a creditor may attempt to collect a particular debt. Some of *** *********’s creditors opted to take legal action to collect their debts, which resulted in having to pay back more than we originally anticipated. We advised *** ********* that we would look into all options in order to get her debts resolved as soon as possible and once we have completed this review we will be in touch with her to provide further details. If *** ********* has any further questions or concerns, she may reach us directly at ************.

I've also attached the affidavit of compliance that was Notarized and read to me during the signing of the program.   #4 outlines that they guarantee a minimum of 40% debt reduction off the debt's face value at the time of settlement....   in the Event that Century Law Firm does not meet this minimum standard for a particular account, it shall refund the pro rata share of all fees and costs paid to Century Law Firm for such work and Century Law Firm shall settle that individual account for the client at no additional cost.

They are verbally telling me that the reason that my debt is extended is because the creditor required payment in full (no debt reduction), therefore they did not meet the 40% standard of representation.

This was really highlighted to me during the signing process - all of these guarantees, and then 4 years later after not fulfilling it trying to stick me with another $17,000 of payments !

     Complaint: ********

I am rejecting this response because:  I've just sent and attached additional information regarding their invalid justifications for not fulfilling their agreement.  The Affidavit of Compliance (#4) promises 40% debt reduction or waiver of fees and settlement at no cost.  Their explanation that they are extending my payments another $17,000.00 says because they were unable to obtain any type of reduction (0%) in one of the settlement which entitles me to a refund and no cost settlement, not extending my payments.

I am a client of Century Law Firm and specifically am a part of their debt consolidation program. I have made many attempts to reach them to discuss my status within the program as originally I was told the program I am in would end February 2022. I am now 6 months past this time frame and no one will return my calls or emails to seek out why payments to them for the debt program are still being taken out of my account each month. I am seeking to understand my status and to resolve my concerns and all I ask is contact from Century Law.

Century Law Firm is in receipt of the complaint by *** *******; we appreciate the opportunity to respond. On or about August 13, 2018, *** ******* retained Century Law Firm to assist with resolving his unmanageable debt.  Since enrolling, all of *** *******’s debts have been resolved and the program has been implemented and executed in accordance with the terms of this consumers agreement.  On or about June 22, 2021, a representative from Century Law Firm contacted *** ******* with program updates.  *** ******* at no time requested that we stop taking payments, and in fact confirmed that he understood the details of his ongoing program.  After reviewing our call records, we were only able to locate one attempt in the last 60 days where *** ******* tried to contact us, which occurred on August 22, 2022. This call was received after hours, therefore there were no representatives available to receive this call. There have been no further attempts to contact us since that time. Since we were notified of *** *******’s complaint a representative will be reaching out to him to further discuss his program and answer any questions. Should *** ******* need to contact Century Law Firm in the future, he may reach us at 800-381-1806 between the hours of 9am-7pm ET.

    Better Business Bureau:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me. I spoke to a representative who answered my questions.  Please note their accusations that I did not try and contact them is false but I will accept their response at this time.  Yes I spoke to a rep in June 2021 where they told me my program and payments were on schedule with the three year agreement.  This action would have been avoided had they been transparent with me and return client calls.

    Regards,

Although we have numerous concerns about this firm. The most recent is the fact that they have not returned any phone calls or emails in over 2 weeks. 1. We have requested an updated statement of our escrow account for at least a month. We have been told we would get one and have not. The client portal for Reliant does not provide the specifics of the escrow accounts that can be run by the firm. We still want the most recent version sent to us, please. 2. We have requested the removal of 2 accounts in the program with no response. We have essentially been ghosted by this law firm despite paying for over 3 years.
