This job took place on January 9 and 12th, 2023 After I confronted the owner, ****, after a job about why he was charging me more than twice for dirt and gravel after I had already paid, he got very hostile with me. He sent me many threatening texts regarding my sharing of my husband's cancer treatments and having to pull my little savings from a small stock account to pay for this job. He told me I should charge more on a credit card and asked how I could have little money for this project living in such a lovely home, to which he then shared a Zillow link of my house and what I paid for it in 2019. I do not feel safe knowing he knows where I live now. He never came to the home to look at the job, but he knows a lot of details about me. I am more than ok sharing these text messages. I am not responding to him, but he is unbalanced and not ethically running his business. I just finished the job with another contractor for more than half of what Jacksonville Sand and Gravel were charging me. When I asked **** if he could refund me the amount I would have to pay to finish the job, he got very hostile. I want to let others know that **** is only a broker, not a contractor (as he states and says he owns a sand and gravel business), charging over market value for his product. To summarize, From Jacksonville Sand and Gravel, I was charged $595 for clean fill x 11 loads and $1,350 for a load of gravel x 2, plus I had to pay someone else $1,500 for excavation and spreading the topsoil and gravel. When I called around to try to finish the job because I went way over budget, several contractors informed me I was taken advantage of and should only be paying $225 for clean fill, including spreading it. I feel I should be refunded $1,500, fair market value, by allowing **** to still make well over the market value per load. This would cover the cost of paying someone else to complete the job.
