I recently took my dog, Layla, to Preppy Pet facility in Leesburg, FL for a day of grooming. Unfortunately, my experience with this facility was extremely negative. On December 11th, Layla escaped from the facility and was subsequently hit by a car. She suffered a degloving wound and small fracture as a result of the accident. The driver who hit Layla got out looking for her and was told by someone claiming to be Layla's owner that he had called his friends to look for her and referred to Layla as a "lot dog". We have documented proof and witnesses who can confirm that this person was not Layla's real owner and that he lied to the driver. In fact, the driver later reached out to us after the fact, in response to our Facebook post, to tell us that he had hit Layla and that someone at the scene pretended to be us. Furthermore, we were not notified about Layla's escape until 5 pm, even though the facility's website claims that it will contact owners immediately in case of emergencies. If we had been notified sooner, we could have been there to help look for Layla and potentially prevent the car accident from occurring. We only live one mile away from the facility and dropped Layla off at 11:30 am. We were in Orlando at the time and left to go on our trip at 2:30 pm. If we had been notified immediately of the emergency, as stated on the facility's website, we could have been there sooner to help find Layla. We believe that Carol and the staff at the facility were negligent and dishonest in their handling of this situation. We wanted to share our experience with other consumers as a cautionary tale and to urge you to be cautious when choosing a pet care facility for your beloved pets. It is important to do your research and choose a facility that you can trust to care for your pets properly. If you have experienced any issues with the safety or accountability of your pets, it is important to speak up and bring attention to the issue.
