They want $5,000. I haven't paid yet. My transmission was leaking transmission fluid. Supposedly they fixed that but now tell me that my car isn't drivable. My car was drivable prior to drop off. They did not try to resolve the problem. They told me that if I don't want them to fix my engine that I should come get my car. But, my car wasn't having engine problems prior to taking it to them. It had a problem with the Transmission fluid leaking.Business response

On 05/21/2022 I bought a car from a car dealership here in *****. I noticed a burning scent and after 2 weeks I decided to take it to an expert mechanic (or so I thought) to determine the reason. I took it to Midway ford and I was told that there was a leak in the gasket cover that needed to be replaced and this was the reason for the odor and the light fumes that I was concerned about. This was my first car and I dont know much about cars so I trusted the advice given to me by these experts. After 2 days I collected my car and paid $860 but within a few minutes of driving it the issue was still observed. I contacted them and expressed my concern and was asked to return with the car the same day. I was assured that it was nothing to worry about, just some excess adhesive that *** take some time to burn off. The issue still persisted, and after 2 weeks I scheduled an appointment with Midway ford but decided that I would get a second opinion from a different mechanic first. Within 10 mins the mechanic was able to find the issue and urged me to be careful because my car can catch a fire. It was such a scary thing to hear that I immediately called midway ford to express my concern. I was told the advisor that I worked with was unavailable and my messaged will be delivered, and he would get back to me. A few days passed and I still did not hear back from them. I did not drive it until I could hear from them which I still havent at this point. I made an appointment with another mechanic to have the issue fixed on 07/13/202. Within seconds of me arriving at the mechanic shop (which was in a gas station) the car lit ** in flames. I removed myself from the car. The fire department were called upon to extinguish the fire. It was possibly the most traumatizing event of my entire life and to this point I have not heard back from midway ford. The negligence of Midway Ford put not only me, but many others who were in the surrounding neighborhood at risk. My car is now totaled.Business response

This response was of no substance as the company has failed to get back to me regarding possible ways to make amends despite my attempts to contact them. As a result, I'm now forced to seek alternative means of rectifying the situation.
Sincerely,

6/8/2022:
Customer arrived at ******************** service department at 11:23 am with a complaint of a burning smell while driving. The vehicle was diagnosed the same day with a leak from a valve cover. Customer approved the repairs.
6/9/2022:
Repairs were performed. While performing the repairs, the technician noted the car had epoxy like material towards the rear of the cylinder head. This is an indication of a poorly performed prior repair.
Technician finished installing new valve cover gasket and cleaned the area as best as possible while informing service advisor that a previous repair had been attempted with the use of an epoxy. This indicated a poorly performed previous repair.
Technician test drove the vehicle and let it idle to verify oil leak had subsided. At this point the vehicle was not leaking oil.
6/10/2022:
Customer picked up the vehicle. The Service Advisor informed the customer of finding the epoxy on the rear cylinder head. Customer was instructed to speak directly to the selling dealer for possible issues with the epoxy.
6/15/2022: (approximately)
Customer drove by the ******************** service department (no repair order was opened, nor was car in shop) and spoke to the Service Advisor about seeing steam and at times smelling a foul odor.
Advisor let the vehicle idle on service drive for 15 minutes with the customer. No steam was seen, and no odor was detected. Advisor again reminded customer of possible improper previous repair sand advised her to visit the selling dealer.
7/13/22
Per the Customer the vehicle caught fire.
******************** performed standard repairs to the vehicle which customer acknowledged. ******************** is unaware of what caused the vehicle to catch fire some 30 days later. We have reached out independently to the consumer to discuss the matter.
