I was quoted to move my elderly mother from her home in Cape Coral, FL to mine in Arlington, TX. The quote was almost double all other quotes but as "North American Van Lines" is a reputable company, we chose to go with them. The sales person did a walk through of the home before anything was thrown away and he gave me the quote. I discussed with him that I would be getting rid of quite a bit (2 full construction dumpsters worth) and that because my mother was unable to do anything that there would be additional packing that would need to be completed by them prior to the move. He told me that the price would not go up, only down depending on how much I threw away. Once everything was packed and loaded on the truck and already heading to Dallas, they called and said we owed an additional $1000+ because of the additional packing. I was told the price of the actual move went down over $1000 but the additional packing was several $1000. At this point they already had all of my mothers belongings so we paid the money. This was my fault for not reading the fine print. Once I started unpacking boxes here in Arlington is when I noticed that every box they packed was 50% to 75% packing paper and we were charged per box that they packed. After opening 20 of the boxes that they packed, I had 16 overly full tall kitchen trash bags full of packing paper. They completely took advantage of my elderly mother. I reached out to the company with several emails and was just told they would look into it but have since stopped responding to me. I completely understand that it was my fault for not reading the small print and have to pay for the additional packing but all everything that they packed could have fit in at least half the amount of boxes. In addition, several large items that they packed and were suppose to unpack never happened, including an extra large tri-fold mirrored room divider, a 58" tv and a grandfather clock that they took apart.
