Jan 2024 I hired A1A overhead door company to install a $3500 door. The door has always made a lot of noise so I kept greasing it upon the request of the owner September we called him to come out and make sure that the door was OK when we noticed it was hitting the top of the garage door opener and thats why it was making so much noise, the owner said that that was not his responsibility. I asked why would you install a door thats hitting the garage door opener again his reply is not my responsibility. He said he would charge me $212 to do a tuneup and move the garage door opener , I was not interested in paying him more money since I just paid him $3500. He was very dismissive said thats not his problem. im very disappointed that someone would do business this way. Also ask for the same door as the adjacent door which is insulated the door he installed is not insulated. Basically I feel like I bought an inferior product not what I asked for overpaid and now he wants to charge me more, which isnt gonna fix the problem?Business Response

To whom it may concern, we were called out in January to look at a door that was hit by a car. In this happening the door had to be replaced. At that time the home owner was put on notice that the door would not be the same manufacturer but still have the same look. We were out the next day and installed. Not until 2 weeks ago the husband emailed us stating he didnt know if the door needed serviced or that there was an issue with the door. Once my tech arrived to the home and upon inspection there was not anything wrong with the door only that it needed serviced in which the tech explained to the homeowners routine maintenance and upkeep are not part of the warranty and there would be a charge to do so. The home owners argued it should be covered and were informed it is not. The home owners declined service so we left. How is it that after 9-10 months you want to dispute the door install and its cost is beyond ridiculous.

I am rejecting this response because:
The response received by A1A includes a couple claims that are not true and one outright lie. The email I sent recently to get someone out was in fact the third time we contacted them including shortly after I installation. On the first two phone calls we were told over the phone to just lubricate the track. After several attempts to lubricate we were u happy with the amount of noise. It was odd to me so I finally got my husband to get on a ladder and try to figure out what was going on. That is when we discovered that the new door and installation were causing the door to grind against the bar connected to the opener. This is not something immediately noticeable from the ground. However it is only due to the install and not a maintenance issue as stated by the company. When the tech came out we were told that the issue was not calculated as part of the install and therefore we would have to pay more money to correct their inability to realize the issue. Who installs a door that is immediately damaging the new door ( although not clearly evident ) and then tried to say its not part of the installation? That part is where they lied stating that it was only a maintenance issue because its clearly not and the tech agreed when he was here. As far as the door itself being a similar but not exact replacement, yes we were aware of that however our original door and the door next to it are both insulated doors and the new one is not. We were willing to overlook that because we knew we did not have it in writing at the time but after dealing with this company it was at least worth mentioning yet another attempt to scam the customer. We have picture that show where the door grinds against the pole which I can forward to refute any further lies they would try to make.

The following happened when we calledA1A Garage Door. We live in Woodbine Ga and our garage door stopped working because my wife tried to program the new remote. We contacted this company, they said it would be a $***** service fee and retained them on Saturday ******* *o fix the problem. We had provided one old remote and one new remote to have them re-program both. The person who re-programmed them took it upon himself to oil and lubricate the coil springs and rollers without explaining to my wife that it would cost extra. He re-programmed both remotes and got the door to work. Then proceeded to hand us a bill $****** at which time my wife raised **** about the price. This company I feel was unjustified in charging us to lubricate the doors and springs without my wife what he had done until he added up the bill, we did not in anyway give permission to do any extra work other then re-programming the two remotes that we had. After complaining to the person that answers their phone, they re-worded the bill after seeing the two attachments. I feel that this is an un-justified cost to senior citizens when it should have been explained in the beginning that it would cost more to lubricate the coil springs and rollers which we maintain ourselves. Sincerely, **** and ****** *** ****** ************Customer Answer

SEE ABOVE ATTACHED DOCUMENTS TO SUPORT OUT COMPLAINT AGAINST THIS COMPANY, I DID NOT AT ANYTIME GIVE THEM PERMISSION TO LUBRICATE THE COIL SPRINGS ON OUR DOOR, I HAD GONE INSIDE OUR HOME TO TELL MY HUSBAND HOW MUCH THEY WERE GOING TO CHARGE AND CAME BACK INTO THE GARAGE AND THE MAN SAID HE TOOK IT UPON HIMSELF TO LUBRICATE EVERYTHING. THIS IS UNJUSTIFIABLE AND OUTRAGEOUS, SCALPING SENIOR CITIZENS, WE WANT RESTITUTION!Business Response

Th whom it may concern. We received a phone call on Saturday March **** By Mr ***** *** ******* and he stated that his door was off track. My office manager scheduled the appointment with Mr ***** *** ****** for *****am that day and explained to him the fee to come out is ***** and that this fee is to come out only and the tech would have to determine what was needed and would give pricing detail when he diagnosed the issue. When my tech arrived the door was not off track, a charged that would have been considerably more in the event. The issue was that the remotes needed re programmed and that the door needed a lube balance and adjust on top of the re programming and gave pricing. He was asked to proceed with the work and completed the job and was paid upon completion. I have also issues with the documentation provided by the other company because why would you pay another company 5 days later to do part of the job we did. Our pricing reflects our costs and are charged accordingly to the customer. We did not over charge for any work provided.

I am sorry you feel this way. We charge accordingly to our overhead. The remotes cost me more than the price you are stating. We have minimums to do any type of work and you were charged accordingly.

To whom it may concern:
Until this message from the BBB I have not seen any of this. I can see where there was some email but I never received them. More than likely they went to spam and I do not check this regularly or at all. The best way to get a hold of a local business is a phone call in which this has not happened. To answer the concerns: your old door was a wooded door, it was a solid masonite door with polystyrene foam in between the 2 masonite pieces. The new hurricane rated door is a hollow door in which creates echoing through the hollow metal. Also if the door is creating noise the door needs to be lubricated as instructed by my tech at the time of installation. Not doing this would create even more noise plus the echoing through the hollow metal. the so called 1/8 inch gap is of no concern. The tracks are pieced together and are installed to the jamb and rested on the concrete. The home opening could be off the foundation could be off(etc) as this home is more than 30 years old. If the where a 2 inch gap there would be concern. And last but not least when the deposit was made on the door you paid that with a credit card, as explained to you there is a 4% fee when using a card, this was explained to you and is also stated on the bottom of the invoice. We offer a cash discount of 4% if paid by check or cash, we recoup this 4% if you pay by credit card which is also explained on the bottom of the invoice. As far as donating I am a director in my own non profit it is called **** **** *** ********. We offer free training to all Military, *** *** ************ ****** **** ** ******** I not only give thousands of dollars a year for this cause but I am also a trainer so I also donate a great deal of time to these folks. Again if you have an issue all you have to do is call our office and someone answers during normal business hours all day. It looks like you put a great effort into this but your time wasted could have been resolved with a simple phone call.

Again all of this was explained at the time of sale and installation. Everything is listed and described on the invoice. If the parts were not marked correctly for the door I can gladly fix and re email. Again a phone call in the beginning could have resolved this sooner.

I am rejecting this response because:$% surcharge was never mentioned. Had I known I would have written a check as I did with the balance. Still do not have any info on warranty
I am well aware of various metal expansion coefficients. I will not give in until I get my refund for overpayment. I have yet to have a business tell me what they pay for credit card fees.

To whom it may concern
*** ****** contacted our company on March 9th 2021 at approximately 3:40pm which was a Sunday. I explained to her that I did not have anyone available until Monday the 10th between the hours of 9-11. I explained the service fee of 45 to come out aand she agreed. When my tech Joe arrived there was another company there doing the repair. She was then called and stated that she needed to pay the service fee for coming out and she declined. *** ****** called multiple companies as she stated to us and it was basically a race to her and the first company there would get the job for she was trapped in her garage. *** ****** showed no regard to anyone, all she cared about was getting her door fixed. I explained to her if she did not pay a lien would be filed and sent her multiple invoices in the mail and also emailed her multiple time with no response. The now lien includes the original service fee and filing fees. Had she either canceled with us or paid her bill we would not be were we are at.
