    Pattern of Complaint:

    BBB files contain a pattern of complaints from consumers which allege billing issues.  Specifically, consumers report unknowingly being charged a monthly subscription fee after using the website during the trial period. In addition, several consumers report being charged this monthly subscription fee prior to the end of the 3-day trial period.

    On April 9, 2024, BBB sent correspondence to EpicVin requesting their voluntary cooperation in providing steps it will implement to eliminate the pattern of customer complaints.

    On April 16, 2024, EpicVin responded to the BBB with the following:

    "We appreciate your recent communication regarding the pattern of complaints filed against EpicVIN, specifically related to billing issues. As a company committed to transparency and customer satisfaction, we want to assure you that we have taken proactive steps to address these concerns and ensure clarity regarding our subscription terms.

     

    This is what we have done to make the subscription terms as transparent as possible:

    • Additional Terms in Order Summary: We have added detailed terms related to the subscription to the order summary section on our website. A screenshot of the updated order summary is attached for your reference.

    • Prominent Display of Subscription Terms: Previously, the subscription terms were located at the bottom of the page, making them less visible to users. We have now placed the terms prominently below the payment button on our website, ensuring that users have easy access to this information before completing their purchase. Attached are screenshots comparing the previous and current versions of the page for your review.

    • Order Confirmation Emails: In addition to displaying the terms on our website, we send order confirmation emails to customers for all transactions conducted with us. These emails contain detailed information about the subscription, including the trial period duration, conversion to a monthly subscription, and cancellation instructions.

    We believe that these measures have significantly improved the clarity and transparency of our subscription model, addressing the concerns raised by customers and BBB. We remain committed to providing a positive experience for our customers and ensuring that they are fully informed about our services and terms."

      Date: ****** Amount: $49.99 On 07/11/24 I purchesed a $1 report which is valid which started a 3 day ticker to cancel the monthly subscription. This is not clearly visible as the seller states in thier replies to get a refund of this $49.99 charge. I was not aware nor did I ever intend to purchase a subscription. On 7/14/24 I was charged the $49.99 subscription fee. The buisiness has not tried to resolve, they simply state it's clearly visible and their policies are a no refund. I don't recall seeing anything on a subscription during the $1 purchase yet they send me a screenshot that I've never seen highlighting things talking about this. I never saaw those screens and if they did exist they were burried.

      As a reference, this was the Email I recieved after I stated I will close the case once a refund is initiated.

      I was charged for a full subscription by EpicVIN without my consent. Initially, I paid $1 for a vehicle report, which I believed was a one-time fee. However, I was later charged a subscription fee without prior notice or consent. It was stated that the Total Pay Now is 1 dollar. It never stated that I will be paying 50 dollars after 3 days. I did not receive any email or PDF indicating an automatic renewal. I contacted customer service but received no resolution. This unauthorized charge has caused inconvenience, and I request a full refund and cancellation of any ongoing subscription.

      Original Transaction date: 7/6/24 Unauthorized transaction date: 7/10/24 Amount: $49.99 ***************** unlimited subscription to services Dispute: I did not authorize the company to save my CC information and charge it later. I paid using Apple Pay and it did not state that my CC would be used at a later date for a subscription I did not want. Business Resolution: a $49.99 credit on my account for something I did not want. They will not issue a refund. Advertising: Poorly communicated. Deceptive practice of $1 use of a service with the idea that the customer will automatically be subscribed to their subscription services without notice. Then refusing to issue a refund when the issue is raised and requested by the customer. Additionally, I utilized Apple Pay method to checkout which does not promote or authorize the automatic payment and storage of my CC information.

      On 6.19.24 I signed up for the $1 trial, having no idea that less than 3 days later I'd be charged $49.99. This was not stated in any obvious way through the sign up process. It is subtly & (IMHO deceptively so) placed on the final order screen. My wife didn't catch this until the 2nd month of $49.99 hit our account. I emailed our concern & was immediately sent a form response offering a $49.99 credit towards future products. I replied that was not acceptable, to refund our charges & cancel my account. I made several email attempts, including addressing the Epic Vin manager ****. Never a reply. I repeatedly called their "24/7" support line over several days. I was always "first in line" & after 3 minutes, the phone hung up.

      I purchased a vehicle VIN report from this company to view the history on a car I bought. I was unaware that the charge was for a monthly recurring subscription. Unfortunately I was charged a second month before I realized. I reached out to request a refund since I no longer need the companys service and I only needed a one time report, however they declined and stated they would credit me the money to be able to use at EpicVIN. I tried to reason with their customer support group but was not successful. To reiterate , I only needed a one time VIN report I am not a car dealer or flipper who I could imagine would benefit from such a subscription, I am a regular private customer, and I tried explaining that to the company, in hopes that they would reconsider. I desire a refund back to my original payment method.

      On 6/20/24 I registered for an account with **********************, with the understanding that I would be charged $1 to access a vin report on a vehicle. I received a confirmation email, and it was not noted at all in the email that I would be charged $***** after 3 days. This was deceiving, with no additional confirmation that I agreed to pay *****. I emailed them immediately when I saw my bank statement but was told I was not able to receive a refund, but was only offered a credit in which I will not use as I only needed one car report. I used their service for one car report and have now been charged $50.99.I have found many others have been misled by this website who is essentially scamming people out of $50.

      The company has issued a refund which I am happy with, however Im unhappy that this company still has their website set up to make users believe they are paying only $1, when in reality after 3 days they will be charged $50. There is still potential for this company to scam other people out of money and refuse refunds until they reach out to the BBB.

      I got 3 emails from them after the purchase, non mentiond a ***** future charge 

      As required by NJ law they most notify which they didn't 

       

      The terms didn't include anything about future charges as well

       

      They claim it's hidden with small letters somewhere in the t&c . Thats called defrauding

      On June 18th, I purchased a car report for $1. During and after the checkout process, I did not receive any notifications or emails saying that I subscribed to a trial period. And even after I paid for the service, I still haven't received any payment or subscription confirmation! Today, June 21st, I saw a charge on my card for $49.99. I immediately contacted their support team, but they denied the refund, blaming me for the charge.
