We adopted our pit/boxer dog **** from this location over 10 years ago. This dog has issues with doctors looking at him. They have always had me give him a chill mix of pills the night before his appointment, just to be able to sedate him to examine him. On January 25th I called and explained he might have an ear infection. They told me to give him the chill mix and bring him in on Feb 19th at 11am. **** arrival, ***** and ******** told me the new doctor doesn't sedate the animals. Out of desperation for our dog, I let them try with only the chill mix to keep him calm. I paid the exam fee $40.00 and they couldn't work on him. They gave me a better super chill mix and another appointment for 3/11 at 10:30. I explained he must be sedated, they insisted the mix would work. On 3/11 at 10:30, they again failed to do any of the requested work (examine his ears for infection, nail trim, yearly shots, and tooth exam). Instead, they managed to do a ***** exam for worms and also determined he had an ear infection. I did not request a ***** exam, and considering he could barely walk straight, I'm not sure they did a ***** exam at all. The doctor told me he's to much work and it's not worth the time involved to properly sedate him. (they insist they are not a full service clinic, yet always sedated him in the past). The doctor would only prescribe ear cleaner and antibiotic ear drops for him, I explained our dog won't let me near his ears, but this was all he was willing to do, and ******* me to make a decision because they have and still are over booked. Out of desperation for our dogs health, I excepted the medication, and paid $366. Today, On 03/13/24, I failed trying to inject the ear cleaner. I called and spoke with ***** and the manager ********, asking for a pill form anti biotic. The only responses I received was that they will no longer see him and that I need to go to a full service clinic, and the doctor refused to prescribe anything further.

This place should only provide vaccination and shelter services only. Not a good place for any other services. I got my Yorkie to get dental examination and cleaning on Oct 2 the Dr told me that she had periodontitis infection on 2 of the upper sides on each side a total of 4 teeth were loose he told those she might loose them and I proceeded to authorized the bloodwork to start the process the same day for dental cleaning and surgery. The front desk notified me that I could not make the surgery appointment before the results of the bloodwork were ready. Those results will take from 2 to 7 days. They also gave me a urine sample kit, instructions were the urine should be taken 5 days prior the surgery and the surgery appointment could be done once the blood work test comes normal. The reason for the urine delay was to make sure the dog is not passing any stone prior the procedure. This was explained to me twice since I didn't find it practical due to I had to drive 45 min each way. On October 9, I called them to inquire for the results and were not ready according to the computer system and once were ready they will call me. On Oct 16 I called again and I was told the results were ready since Oct 4, they called to my cell and left me a message. I told the lady not true. I asked her to make the appt, she said no because the urine sample was needed as well. I took the urine sample the same day and took it the same day. Results came back on Oct 19 "positive stone". I had to take the dog for some additional studies. On Oct 23, the dog was taken for the additional study same day I was told everything was negative. Surgery was sched for Nov 7 at 8am. At 2:14 pm I got the call that my dog was ready and they had to takeoff 18 teeth all the front teeth are gone. I talked to the DMV Brian ******. In 28 years having Yorkies and being a breeder none of my dogs had to be removed. My total cost on this whole process was 1.3K, I feel scammed. "Affordable Cost Clinic"

Pet Alliance of Greater Orlando Response

      11/20/2023

The Pet Alliance of Greater Orlando provides veterinary services to customers at a reduced rate – meaning that the customer will typically pay less for the service provided by the Pet Alliance than they would pay at a full-service veterinary clinic. Services are provided by board-certified, experienced veterinarians with years of experience. In the situation outlined by the customer: they had an 8-year-old small breed dog with grade 3- 4 periodontal disease. Prior to any dental cleanings and extractions, the owner must agree to blood work (in this case a senior screen) and urinalysis and radiographs. An estimate of these costs is provided to the owner before any tests are performed. Once tests are performed and the animal is cleared for dental surgery the owner has an estimate of the surgery cost based on the preliminary review – as with all surgery if more extractions are needed, the cost will rise. In this case based on the amount of periodontal disease, 18 teeth were extracted. The owner signed an acknowledgement form prior to the surgery. The cost of the surgery was estimated to be $731 the actual cost was $929. The additional $274.80 was for the labs and radiographs. These fees are quite reasonable.

      Customer Response

The reason I brought my pet to your office was previously the good experience on the mall at Millenia facilities. This complain is not only about money, but there were also many things wrong on this case. The instructions and information given to me by office personnel that created unnecessary delays to treatment. As I previously disclosed on the complaint above. The fact that knowing the dog had periodontal disease grade 3-4 on the day of the dental consultation and not providing antibiotics to the dog to minimize the progression of the infection was very negligent, the same day of the consultation I paid for the blood test, and it was taken. The fact that the dog needed to get a significant number of teeth was an enough reason to notified me as the owner of the pet. But I was notified after the fact. The office inefficiency that brought unnecessary delays plus no antibiotics to prevent the progression of the infection since been a small dog this could had cost my dog’s life. Not notifying me about the findings of the number of teeth before the fact and not after. Like I stated previously in all my years as Yorkie owner and breeder none of my Yorkies had been removed such a big number of teeth and most of my pets lasted between 14 to 16 years old. The Vet will notify me of any drastic findings, showed me the teeth pulled for me to confirm those were bad. Do I have to believe the Dr by faith? The x-rays were done. Those were never discussed with me. I’m complaining about all the wrong things done. I don’t want anyone to experience what my pet had been thru.
