I picked up my rental in 3/21/25 and turned it back in on 3/25/24. I booked with this company thru ***********. I was told that my total for the rental and taxes/fees would be approximately $120 . When I went to pick up my rental. I was told there would be a $250 refundable deposit, which I was okay with . I was also told I had to pay for $13 a day for toll fees (which added up to approx $50) plus $180 for insurance and liability coverage . I told them I didnt need it because I had my own insurance . I also was charged an addition $23 for roadside assistance which I was unaware of. After every thing was said and done I was charged a total of $420. The worker was moving so fast and was not explaining to me what I was signed just telling me I sign for the rental to be able to drive off the lot. At the time I thought I was paying for the $50 toll fees and the $250 deposit . It wasnt until the next day that I noticed that I was never charged a security deposit and was actually charged $420 for the rental it self. I called the costumer service line and they were no help at all, very rude and just kept repeating that I had signed the rental agreement so their was nothing else that could be done . The lady even refused to give me a manager name and said that I could not speak with them. I felt scammed and lied to.Initial Complaint

I booked a rental car at the Advantage Rent A Car MCO via Priceline. During the pick up process, I was clear that I did not want to purchase any additional services. I provided the counter agent my auto insurance Declarations page + copy of my AAA roadside policy. Later that day I received a copy of the rental agreement via email and found that many optional services had been added against my will. The counter agent misrepresented what I was signing. I immediately called the posted number and was routed to a call center. Their reps state that the only way to correct the issue would be to drive back to the original location (4 hours round trip). They will not connect me with anyone that can assist and have not responded to emails. I have called 3 time total and sent 2 emails. After a quick ****** search, I found online reviews stating that named the same counter agent and state that essentially the same thing was done to them. This location has 281 1 star reviews on Yelp out of 314 total reviews. My desired outcome would simply be to have someone from the company reach out and correct the improper charges and I would pay the originally agreed upon price.Initial Complaint

I made a reservation for a rental car on ********** on 2/24/25. I agreed to pay $134.85 ($89.15/day for 5 days plus $45.70 in taxes and fees). It was stated that this total "included all mandatory fees and taxes". When I arrived to pick up the car, the woman at the counter mentioned purchasing insurance coverage for the rental but I verbally declined to purchase insurance coverage. I told her I already had coverage, and provided proof of coverage to her which she accepted and entered into the computer. After she had taken my credit card, and insurance info, and entered my drivers license information into the computer, she told me to initial in a couple of places using a stylus on the small electronic screen. I assumed I was agreeing to the standard items that we discussed, typical agreements when renting a car from a reputable company. She did not mention that by initialing the screen, I was "agreeing" to extra charges of a **************** Plan of $5.99/day, $29.95 total), or a ********************* charge (a hidden fee of $12.99/day, $64.95 total), or a "Partial Damage Waiver" ($14.99/day, $74.95 total). The woman did not discuss the Roadside Assistance optional add-on fee. She did not discuss with me the Parital Damage Waiver optional add-on fee, and already knew that I didn't want it because I had verbally declined their coverage options and provided proof of my own coverage. She also didn't mention an optional add on ********************* charge and in fact lied to me, stating that "We pay for the tolls". She also lied telling me that the overcharge was "just a deposit" that would be returned to me. This all happened at 12:30 am, after I had been traveling for 9 hours. The woman was also ******* me, telling me that they were closing. The emailed receipt I later received showed charges of $333.83, with an additional pending $250.00 charge. The mandatory taxes/fees added up to $74.83, also higher than the $45.70 in fees I agreed to when I made the reservationInitial Complaint

Reserved a car at Advantage (************************* (MCO), ************************************************************************************) Total ended up almost double what I was promised Clerk continually forced documents upon us to sign at 12:30 in the AM and insisted if we didn't like it, leave, WHERE WAS I GOING TO GO AT 12:30 IN THE MORNING WITH TWO YOUNG KIDS AND NO CAR???????????Took total advantage of charging us tolls, roadside repair fees, clerk took my phone and went thru my personal insurance info AFTER I had told her I filled out all the necessary paperwork prior. My wife asked questions, she said don't be disrespectful. She didn't want anyone to ask anything that would cause them not to take ADVANTAGE of people. My wife is right, you call it ADVANTAGE so you can take ADVANTAGE of people. I want a refund back to the amount I was promised in my initial reservation which about $200.Initial Complaint

Date of transaction: 2/19/2025 Paid $288.98 Car rental for 8 days Was booked on Priceline Trip # ***-428-215-17 on 2/10/2025 for $129.84 Arrived at rental agency to pick up car and they told me the price would now be over $500. I explained that I already had a booking through Priceline and showed them my booking reservation. The employee refused to honor my Priceline booking and cancelled my reservation. He then told me the best he could do was $288.98. He said that he had only 50 cars and hundreds of people that would take the car if I didn't. He told me that I would not be able to get a rental at this price on such a short notice. The company used unethical business practices and implemented bait and switch forcing me to have no choice but, to pay the extra money so that I would have a car. Many people standing inline were very upset because they were being coerced into paying more for their rental, in the same manner as I was. Advantage's practices are unscrupulous and dishonorable. Can you please help assist me in having the difference in price returned to me. I also want to protect other consumers from being taken "Advantage" of.Initial Complaint

They are holding my $500 deposit in retaliation for 21 days because I asked them to release my deposit on time because I made a complain with my credit card company. I tried to escalate the complaint and they told me to call back and repeatedly sent me to voice mail. They lied to Priceline saying they are holding my money to see if I had tolls and I never used the toll roads.Initial Complaint

The online cost claimed to be $199 for the week, but once we returned the car they charged us $821. Yes, about $150 was Florida taxes, was not clear at the reservation. For 1 week at Advantage Rent-A-Car MCO, #MCO-179595 in Orlando, **. We waited 1 hour outside to receive it, and even then we found it in the lot on our own and took photos prior to anyone coming up to us to check us out. Due to our unfamiliarity with toll roads we accepted the additional fee of $79 for Toll Roads @ Counter. As we were talking with the agent about picking up 2 family passengers he commented the car he was giving us would not be big enough and so he talked us into an Upgrade Charge of $160. We did not accept the Roadside Assistance at $48 or the Partial Damage Waiver at $120 and the copy of the contract they emailed us at the end reflected that we did not initial to accept those items. It did reflect other items we declined. From the outset we felt like they were nickel and diming us and we had a bad feeling about this company. Also, all the other ridiculous extra fees added on i.e. charge for 2 hours late return even though we returned it 1 hour before the deadline at $53, the Privilege Fee Recovery Charge at $67.58 (to help cover their costs for airport location), Vehicle License Fee at $15.92 (to offset their licensing), ERF at $12 (to offset their office energy usage), Florida Surcharge at $16. What started out as a 1 week rental at $199.67 plus fees and taxes ended up at $821.53. When you call their number all you get is an answering service and we were not allowed to speak to the Location Manager, *****. We were told the only way to communicate with her was through email. The email address given is for internal use only and does not accept emails from outside the company, thus our emails were rejected. We travel and rent cars frequently and have never had so many fees applied or such bad customer service. This is the worst experience with a rental agency we have ever had.Business Response

I am writing to provide clarification regarding Mr. ******** rental agreement. Mr. ******* signed and initialed the rental agreement, and he was fully aware of the pricing details before leaving the counter. We also sent him a copy of the contract via email and text message. Additionally, he confirmed the charges before proceeding by inserting his credit card into the machine. The amount he would be charged was clearly stated, and he pressed the green button to accept.
As a gesture of customer service, we acknowledged his late return and refunded today $125.60. For your reference, I have attached the signed and initialed agreement, which includes Mr. ******** signature.
