1776 was hired to move our home belongings on Thursday-May-25. The initial ESTIMATE was for 7-7.5 hours and I was promised the team would arrive between 8-9AM. Actual arrival 10:30 AM The job took excessively longer than estimated or planned completing at 11:30 PM (13 HOURS). During the final 2 hours of the job, team member #1 of the 3 man team informed the others he was done and calling it a night; then decided to go sit in the moving van, reducing the labor force to 2. Then team member #2 of the 3 man team was obviously like minded and constantly taking breaks, outside speaking with team member #1, leaving team member #3 to do the work alone; further reducing the labor force to ONE! . At one point I even jumped in and helps team member #1 to simply get the job done. At the conclusion of the job I was presented a bill for their total time spent at the job. I questioned the charge and stated I felt overcharged and would not authorize the proposed change. To which the team leader reached out to his supervisor. After a brief discussion and a request for an adjustment to the charges, I was told he was unauthorized to make any charge, but I could pay in full and dispute the charges after the fact. I felt that was unreasonable and left me no leverage to negotiate the charge and would not authorize full payment. I've since reached out to the company via telephone (no answer) and email requesting a resolution. I specifically stated it was not my intention to avoid paying the bill, but rather a desire to negotiate an adjustment for overcharge due to their reduction in labor on the job. Without any discussion or contact, 1776 simply charged my CC their proposed amount without any discussion. I am looking solely for a refund of $300

On July, 22, 2021, I contacted 1776 Moving and Storage for a move scheduled for July 23, 2021. During the move, one of the curved glass panels in my china cabinet was broken. 1776 Moving and Storage employees were very apologetic about the broken glass and provided phone number and photos of broken glass that I would need to file an insurance claim. On 2 Aug 2021, I filed claim and received acknowledgement of receipt with 1776 Moving and Storage insurance provider (CAFCPS). On 12 Oct 2021, I received a settlement of claim notice via email informing me that my claim had been denied for the following reason: "Full packing service not purchased, Item not crated to avoid any damages or in transit incident. Blanket wrapping is not considered full packing service simply in transit wrapping. Additional full packing should have been purchased. Items are not covered and excluded from moving and storage liability." When I initially contacted 1776 Moving and Storage nothing was ever mentioned about a "Full Packing Service" nor is there any mentioning of such service anywhere on 1776 Moving and Storage website. I had no knowledge of a full packing service being required to have my furniture insured. The China Cabinet was packed/wrapped in blankets by 1176 Moving and Storage employees. If there was requirement for my china cabinet to be crated or it would not be insured, then that should have been brought to my attention and I would have purchased required/additional insurance. "In addition, you chose not to purchase any additional insurance to obligate the carrier to provide full replacement value. This is not a case where I chose not to purchase additional . I had no idea additional insurance was needed to obligate 1776 Moving and Storage to provide replacement. Never explained and nowhere on their website. I have tried on numerous occasions to resolve this matter with 1776 Moving and Storage.

Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2021/11/03) */ Mr. ******** booked a last-minute move with our company on July 22, 2021. He was emailed and texted his estimate that contained all of the valuation options available to him outside of the base liability afforded per the state statutes. Mr. ******** did not secure an outside insurance policy to cover any damages and signed his Bill of Lading indicating that he accepts the Carrier Base Liability option at no additional charge. Mr. ********* claim was processed in accordance with the terms and conditions set forth on the contract that he signed. We do not sell insurance. Additional Valuation Coverage is available at an additional cost for any shipper to select prior to their move date. Consumer Response /* (3000, 7, 2021/11/08) */ (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) First of all, I whole heartily do not the response from this business! I don't understand the significance of when the move was booked. I booked a service and you provided that service. What is the significance? You are correct, I did received an estimate for the move, but you are incorrect in your statement that "his estimate that contained all of the valuation options available to him outside of the base liability afforded per the state statutes." I have gone through the estimate several occasion and cannot find these options that you speak of. Again my settlement of claim notice had been denied for the following reason: 1. "Full packing service not purchased, Item not crated to avoid any damages or in transit incident. Blanket wrapping is not considered full packing service simply in transit wrapping. Additional full packing should have been purchased. Items are not covered and excluded from moving and storage liability." There are no valuation options for a "Full Packing Service" on this estimate or anywhere on 1776 Moving and Storage website. How can my claim be denied for service that you don't even offer/provide? The second part of this denial. "Item not crated to avoid any damages or in transit incident". At the bottom of my estimate, 1776 Moving and Storage provides three (3) links. One of those links is "Ten Things to Know before Your Move". In that link is the only place that 1776 Moving and Storage talks crating. But is specifically only references about crating "Grandfather Clocks" for moves. Never mentions anything about crating requirements for any other piece of furniture or in my case a China Cabinet. This requirement must also be unbeknown to 1776 Moving and Storage employees. Because the never mentioned crating, but they came in, wrapped the China Cabinet in blankets and took it away. I am not a mover nor do I claim to be an expert at moving. Your link also tells me that you are "Fully Insured". Again there are no options to purchase additional insurance anywhere on the estimate that you sent or 1776 Moving and Storage website. Nor was it ever mentioned in any conversations with you booking person or any other employees of 1776 Moving and Storage. Yes, I signed the Bill of Lading. There was never any questions about the Who, What, When and Why of how the glass in the China Cabinet was broken. After assurances by 1776 Moving and Storage employees that a claim would be fulfilled, I had no concerns about claim. Besides that, other than the broken glass in the China Cabinet, we were pleased with the service. So signing the Bill of Lading was the only way to pay 1776 Moving and Storage for the job. Even though the final charges were almost 40% more than the original estimate. I paid in full. Look, I just want my glass fixed. My claim was denied because of services that you do not provide. I am not and should not pay for something that 1776 Moving and Storage and its employees clearly are responsible for. Attached is my estimates and links that I was able to download 1776 Moving and Storage web page. In case you were unable to. Business Response /* (4000, 9, 2021/11/11) */ We stand behind our response and the terms of the contract that Mr. ******** Signed.

We hired this moving company and they did not give us a contract, they were very misleading about the price of the move, all television cords and remotes have been lost and they damaged 2 of our televisions and refuse to pay for them. We have called them about the damage and they directed us to a claim department that did nothing more than tell us that we are not covered because we didn't get insurance which was NEVER offered to us in the first place. All we want is for them to offer some compensation for the damages caused by their company but they refuse any responsibility whatsoever.

      Business response

      10/06/2021

Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2021/09/09) */ On July 15, 2021, Ms.***** hired 1776 Moving and Storage to move her household goods from one home to another. The job was performed on July 21, 2021. Upon completion of the service, Ms.***** paid the charges in full without any complaint about the cost or the service provided. Several days later, Ms.***** contacted 1776 Moving claiming that her television, which she packed in her own box prior to the start of the move, was broken. A 1776 Moving representative gave Ms.***** the contact information for the third-party claims adjusting firm that would handle her claim. Ms.***** filed a claim report with the adjusting firm to receive compensation for two allegedly damaged television sets. She stated that she packed both televisions herself prior to the start of the move. The claim was denied on the grounds that the televisions were not properly packed. Ms.***** then filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. The following is a list of the allegations in Ms.*****' complaint and 1776 Moving's response to each: We hired this moving company and they did not give us a contract Ms.***** did receive a copy of her estimate and contract for services. The written estimate was emailed to Ms.***** before she placed her deposit, and the signed contract for services was emailed to her upon completion of the job. All documents were automatically sent to the email address provided by Ms.*****. They were very misleading about the price of the move The pricing structure was explained to Ms.***** over the phone and in the written estimate that she received by email. The cost of a move is calculated by labor time plus a travel charge and a fuel surcharge. The cost for labor time is based on an hourly rate that is calculated in 15 minute increments. All television cords and remotes have been lost 1776 Moving did not pack Ms.*****' television cords or remotes. Ms.***** packed these items herself prior to the start of the job. Cords and remotes are small, loose items that would not have been transported unless they were packed in a box. Because Ms.***** packed them herself, 1776 Moving is not responsible for these items. They damaged 2 of our televisions and refuse to pay for them. 1776 Moving did not perform any packing services during Ms.*****' move. As stated in the terms and conditions of the contract, any television that is not professionally packed by 1776 Moving or a licensed third-party provider, will be transported at the customer's own risk. Therefore, since Ms.***** packed the televisions herself in boxes not designed for the transport of a television, 1776 Moving is not responsible for the condition of these items. They directed us to a claim department that did nothing more than tell us that we are not covered because we didn't get insurance which was NEVER offered to us in the first place. Ms.***** was directed to a third-party claims adjusting firm retained by 1776 Moving to handle damage claims. The adjusting firm explained to Ms.***** that she did not purchase full replacement valuation coverage for her items in the event of damage. Instead, Ms.***** opted for the standard valuation coverage. However, the amount of coverage is irrelevant in this case, as coverage of any kind would only apply if the television sets were professionally packed. Insurance coverage is another matter entirely. If Ms.***** wanted insurance coverage, she would've had to secure a policy from a licensed insurance agent prior to the start of the move. 1776 Moving does not offer nor sell insurance. All we want is for them to offer some compensation for the damages caused by their company but they refuse any responsibility whatsoever. Ms.***** claim for damage was handled quickly and properly in accordance with the terms of the contract and applicable state law.
