Got approved for insurance after 4 point ispection review. After paying required fees I received a letter in the mail that I was being canceled due to a tree being next to the house. No pictures, just a generic letter stating to remove any trees withing one foot of roof or hanging branches within three feet. When I asked for a picture I was told they don't send them. I paid several hundreds of dollars to remove tree and submitted photos. After review I was notified that all requirements had been met and I would no longer be canceled.I am once again being threatened to get canceled because I removed the wrong tree. There are no other trees within one foot or any hanging branches less than three feet of my roof. After disputing this I was finally sent a photo of the tree in question. The tree does not meet removal requirements and I can't afford another tree removal fee. I was told it doesnt matter about about the requirements because the underwriter doesn't like the picture of the tree. The tree does not curve, is not dead and has no deformities. They took my money, had me pay to remove a tree and are still going to cancel because they no longer like the previously approved picture. The woman was actually very sweet when stone ******* me and refusing to let me speak to someone else while just asking if I have any further questions before I get canceled for failure to remove this tree. I have delt with unsurance companies for over 20 years and have never been treated so poorly by a company or their people. I chose the cheapest company and it really showed. Thank you **. Great job.Security First Insurance Company Response

Thank you for bringing this matter to our attention. We reviewed your file and determined that the tree in question appears to be healthy and located more than a foot from the residence. Accordingly, we have reinstated your policy as of March 02, ****, with no lapse or gap in coverage and we issued a notice of the reinstatement for your records. Security First apologizes for the inconvenience this may have caused you.Review from Kim S

I have never filed a claim **** so I can't give an opinion on that. What I will do, however, is tell you what I think about their communication skills. When they want to raise my rate, they won't tell me. They will, however, notify the mortgage company who, in turn, tells me. In 2022, I got a new roof & a wind inspection. ** was notified. Seven months later, I'm told by my mortgage company that my insurance will go up. I call ******** contacted 3 times dur*** which it is suggested that I get a new roof & a wind inspection done. I'm so ":;#-!?+ angry defend*** my decision to ** that I spent a lot of $ on my roof, my refusal to get another *********** are f-*** insane if they think I'm tak*** their advice. They stopped call***.A year later, the mortgage company tells me my rate is go*** up. I switch insurance companies. ** has the audacity to tell me that 'unfortunately' they can't tell my mortgage company when or if I'll get a refund back. It's roughly $2500; I'll never see it & neither will the mortgage company. ** has some serious gonads; I oft wonder how they would feel if they were told to spend $10G to replace a 5-month old roof.Security First Insurance Company Response

Thank you for the opportunity to review your concern and to address any misunderstandings. We reviewed your policy file and it appears that we updated the age of your roof in July of 2022 and applied the appropriate discounts for both the amended roof age and the wind inspections. You may recall that these changes significantly reduced your premium for the 2022-2023 policy term and that SFI issued you a refund check in July of 2022 for $1,804.38. On May 16, 2023, we notified you and your mortgage company of the premium for the upcoming renewal period of July 05, 2023, through July 05, ****, and your mortgage company paid the premium in full. In December of 2023, we discussed with you the premium for the current year, and we explained that, although the premium for the 2023-**** policy period included your updated roof age and the wind inspection discounts, it had increased over that charged for the previous year due to state-wide rate increases approved by the Office of Insurance Regulation. We also suggested that you could request a policy review to determine whether other potential credits or coverage changes might lower the policy premium, but you chose to request instead that we cancel the policy. Accordingly, we cancelled the policy effective January 31, ****, and refunded the unused portion of the premium on February 10, ****, by issuing a check in the amount of $2,099.71. We regret that you have chosen to obtain insurance coverage elsewhere, but we appreciate our long relationship with you and look forward to an opportunity to serve your insurance needs in the future.Review from Michael B

Security first is the worst insurance in *******. I have a ceiling collapse, and before the address came to my home, he left voice mail, said that is because of my roof when he came, he inspect the ceiling and told me that someone from security first will come and inspect the roof. Wish E do not know anything about my claims immediately block my claims so at this time it in litigation, so I cannot say much at this time but I beg of you to stay away from this Insurance, they do not quick to pay out, you have to take it to the court you will hear more on my claims at a later dateSecurity First Insurance Company Response

As our customer has chosen to pursue claims relating to this loss in litigation, our differences will be resolved through agreement or by completion of the judicial process.Review from Allan H

I got an online quote which I was happy with and the property replacement value was much higher than property appraiser and my existing company so I called the agent to confirm the coverage and they said they had to review the quote and for a lower replacement cost of my property lo and behold it went up $400. This is obviously a scam and should be reported to trading standards officials.Review from Patricia S

Sophia was extremely helpful. Nobody likes to pay for home insurance, but you need it when you have a home. I'm thankful that I have never filed a claim.Review from Janae W

I filled out a quote online and was approved. I called to complete the process, spoke to Mamie and was told $1800 - but need an updated wind mitigation and four point inspection, that paying that $175 would save me a lot of money. So I did, and I’m out $175 because when I called again to complete the process, the rate changed from $1800 to $2500. This time I spoke to Justin because Mamie never called me back, despite knowing that it’s time sensitive. I was also told that even at $2500 I may not even be approved for a policy. I would like for Security First to pay me $175 for the money I wasted, but I know they won’t.Security First Insurance Company Response

We are sorry to hear that the facts regarding our customer’s request for a residential property insurance quote were not clearly understood at the time that we generated two quotes for the requested policy. Our customer applied for a policy, provided an acceptable 4-point inspection and we generated a premium quote. After reviewing the information that was provided to us, SFI amended the name that was used for our customer in order to reflect the name shown on the property appraisal card for the premises to be insured. We generated an updated premium quote with the amended name, and it was higher than the original quote. We offered our customer a policy with the new quote, but our customer declined to accept the coverage. Although the quote that we offered has now expired, our customer can obtain another review by contacting Security First Insurance at 1-866-999-5545. Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 7:00 pm ET. We would be pleased to be given an opportunity to provide our customer’s residential property insurance needs, storm after storm, year after year.Review from Magdalene V

This company should be one of the companies leaving the state of Florida and not ******* *********. They will take your thousands of dollars over the years and when filing a claim after hurricane Irma due to water intrusion in my kitchen, they did everything possible including hiring a private "engineer" to come and survey the roof who took thousands of photos who then sent copies to me with a note that they were not going to assist with a roof replacement as it was simply 'aging" which at the time was about 14 years due to having had replaced it in 2005 when hurricane Charlie came through.Security First Insurance Company Response

Security First regrets that our customer is not satisfied with our decision regarding the coverage provided by this policy. We investigated this loss when it was first reported following Hurricane Irma and determined that the storm did not cause damage to our customer’s roof, but that interior water damage from the storm-related rain did result in covered damage. We extended coverage regarding the interior damage, but the total cost of covered repairs did not exceed the hurricane deductible amount chosen for the policy. Several years later, our customer requested that we reconsider our initial decision, which we did. SFI reopened the claim file and solicited the opinion of an engineering firm regarding the original issues as well as issues that may have arisen from the intervening passage of three years or so. The engineering firm confirmed that there was no evidence that the property’s roof was damaged by the storm and found that the interior water damage was caused by rainwater that entered the property through the roof vents, which is a cause that was not covered by the policy. Based on our multiple investigations of this claim, we were unable to change our original decision regarding the claim. Security First values all of our customers and understands that they may be dismayed upon learning that the insurance policy that they have chosen does not provide coverage for a loss. We strive to provide the full extent of coverage that we have contracted with our customers to provide, but the facts of this claim did not fall within the scope of that coverage and we were unable to indemnify the loss.Review from Nancy M

This review is totally for a customer service rep I reached when I needed answers to my questions at Security First. Her name was Miranda (Maranda?) C. She was personable, charming, patient and very helpful. I can't think of any better experience I've had with a customer service representative! Whatever she's getting paid, she deserves a raise!Review from Robert M

We wish we could give this company a negative score. Absolutely the worst company please do not use them. Our roof was damaged by a hurricane - first they said we will cover complete roof replacement. Now they are paying NOTHING - we are having to sue them and meanwhile our roof was damaged and is leaking causing mold and destroying furniture. We completely rehabbed a condo and now leaks in bedroom and bathroom and onto mattresses. They will take your money and do nothing. We continue to send pictures of continuing damage and they do NOTHING. Absolutely the most horrible insurance company in Florida. Please run from this company and do NOT use them better off putting your money in garbage.
