The company was hired by an elderly couple after Irma to be the contractor for repairs after Hurricane Irma did substantial damage to the home. Preliminary work was done through the federal STEP program. A subsequent contractor was hired to do the roof, but he had not obtained a permit and said he had. Monroe County then started code compliance actions as the steps to acquire an After the Fact permit were not followed. Privateer did find an engineer to inspect the roof. This was about the only thing they did correctly. The couple needed a lawyer but Michelle Gillelan represented them at an administrative hearing and totally missed the point of the hearing, thinking it was only about the roof and writing absolutely stupid letters to the clients and to the county. She then tried to cover up malpractice by writing to the clients saying they should only communicate with her, not the county because it would confuse things more otherwise. She and the other would not return their phone calls or respond to letters Meanwhile, the deadline for the appeal to Circuit Court was missed, a lien was placed on the property and a fine of 100 per day. Four years later, the family is picking up the pieces.

Unfortunately none of this is accurate and we are unsure who the person sending this review is. (Certainly no one we have dealt with.) Privateer Alliance was called in an emergency situation for a dear couple (Jerome and Eleanor ******) and staff and crew spent hours caring for the clients both regarding the job and their concerns about the county taking advantage of them. Days were spent at the building department (whose customer service was very familiar with the ******* and the confusion) In an attempt to help their desperate situation, Privateer agreed to accompany them to their hearing as they seemed to have been adrift in the system with no family support. NO legal representation was implied, simply a heartfelt concern for such wonderful people who had phoned begging for someone to go with them. An engineer and an appraiser were both brought in on the job in an effort to help them to prevent the loss of their property. They had been mis-led by another roofing company and unpermitted work had been done by their relative. Even after the county requested for all work to stop, Mr. ****** and his relatives continued work on the house - including remodeling the rear enclosure, changing the kitchen floor plans and various improvements (without proper code compliance or materials). We assisted them with the close out of several pending permits and all items being buttoned up and inspected. In the end, another contractor (Barlow builders) was brought in by Mr. ****** to finish any extra work as required by the county. ALL of these things can be easily verified by building department permit information and/or court notes. All permits on the Monroe County website for their project have been completed, inspected and closed out.
