I have a service dog for my PTSD named Tank. About a year ago, I was assaulted while working out at World Gym. I called law enforcement, press charges, and filed for a restraining order. World gym lied to law-enforcement about having surveillance of the incident because they did not want to get involved. Despite that he was charged and convicted of battery and stalking and the restraining order is permanently in place. On three separate occasions, I had to hide in the gym bathroom and wait for over 20 minutes for law-enforcement to respond when he showed up at the gym. Law enforcement and myself asked the gym to deactivate his key fob and cancel his membership because I was the one who had paid for it, but the gym refused to deny him access. It has been almost a year since the incident and the gym just cancelled my membership and denied me access because I brought my service animal to the gym, which is somehow a violation of their policies.I have been working out at that gym since the incident and for the first time last week, I was able to work out outside where it happened with the assistance of my service animal but now I am being denied the same rights as everyone else. I cannot wrap my mind around the idea that being assaulted at their gym is allowed, but not service animals ? I reached out to the gym to resolve this and was genuinely astounded. Edwin, the manager at the gym left me a voicemail stating that he terminated my membership for not following the rules, and when I called him back, he could not provide me with the said list of rules. Even though service animals are protected by the ADA they are a family owned business and can make their own decisions. They could care less about anyone’s safety, health, or rights and believe it is their right as a business to deny someone access to their gym because of their service animal and I am pretty sure that goes against everything they say on their website on top of violating my rights.
