I am writing to express my profound dissatisfaction and frankly, outrage, regarding the exorbitant and seemingly predatory security deposit policies Duke Energy employs. The company's security deposit policy is exploitative and unconscionably unfair. The high deposit amounts are unnecessary, as service disconnection for non-payment already protects their interests. These terms appear to be a blatant attempt to extract undue financial burdens from customers. Customers are helpless because Duke Energy is the only company serving the Orlando area, so we can't switch service. They are a monopoly at least in this area.

Today I received a phone call at work from my granddaughter that our power had been shut off. I was ****** off because Duke Energy turned my lights off for a $69.32 cent bill from last months balance due. I received an email this morning from them stating there would a disconnection if I didn't pay it. I thought they would give me until the end of their day but NO THEY TURNED THEM OFF FIRST THING THIS MORNING!! My granddaughter was home sick with asthma which meant no air, lights, or use of her nebulizer machine if she had to use it. I asked to speak to a Supervisor after speaking with 2 customer service **** which could only help so much concerning this matter. I explained my situation and the Supervisor told me I had to pay the past due amount and my service would be reconnected. She proceded to say can my grand unplug the main appliances, or shut off the breakers before my service could be restored. I said No then it became no worries in her words. Duke Energy doesn't value their customers, they value their customers money and the charges are ridiculous for their poor service. If I could have chose another company for my electric today I would have. I know customers personally that have had almost ****** dollar light bills and still have service but you turned mine off for 69 dollars and, my total bill was just a little over $100's. I feel this was a bad call on Duke Energy business team. Yes, my lights were restored they should've been interrupted. Duke treat the customers wrongly because they know they can if you live in our county. They know we don't have a choice so we pay for the mistakes in their equipment that fail during hurricanes, and storms which ou of our control. Like a lot of these reviews say.. You're Scammers!! I'd be embarrassed to say I work for your company. Consider the people that keeps you with a salary, and stop making it harder for us to pay our bills. Extention dates should be longer. You've made that harder for the customers also.

They turned my power off without telling me. I called and found out they had sent a notice by mail just the day before. I didn’t get the notice until a few days after the power was cut. I’ve never had an issue with paying 2-3 days after bill was due and they just cut it without notice, no email or call. I paid within hours of the power being turned off, but to turn it back on I had to pay the overdue amount and the bill that was due three weeks later. I paid the two months, paid my next bill early and then the following bill comes and they added a 320 deposit. It says it was because of a “history of missed payments” one payment that I paid same day. They did not tell me id have a deposit to pay, much less one that is DOUBLE my monthly bill. Also no where on the terms and conditions on their website does it say they charge a deposit twice the amount of the bill if your power is disconnected. And our lease ends in a month, why do I have to pay a deposit for a place I’m leaving in a month?? Shady company

They raised our rates for Hurricane cleanup. This is something they should account for and save for. It's not our responsibility to pay for this cleanup twice. It comes out of our bill monthly. Please do a thorough check of this company as I believe they are scamming clients.

Absolutely appalling company and of course they have a monopoly in the area, so you dont even get the illusion of choice.Horribly mismanaged company that not only lied to me about the amount I would need to pay, but then told me that the new amount was the only way to keep my power on. Literal robbery. They should be charged

I had a terrible experience with their website which doesn't work requesting to start a service in a rented house that already has their installation in the landlord name. After filling all data, including SSN, the website always shows the same error: 'We cannot verify your identity'.The only solution: phone call.Really? December of *************************************** the phone age instead of the internet. What magical powers have a phone call to verify our identity? **, is just another company unprepared to operate in today's times, which only survives thanks to a regional monopoly since we are forced to hire it due to a lack of other options.

we had a new generac standby generator installed and an upgrade to our electrical panel for our home which required duke energy to disconnect power to the house. All went well and we called for a reconnect at 1230pm,,,code enforcement called again at 3pm,,,at 8 pm they had not showed and after many calls we got the same line of nonsense,,,it has been routed to a truck,,,4 days later the reconnect truck has not showed up,,,WE had to call repair and report a power line down in the yard and 30 min later we had a truck doing the job,,,You cant believe anything that their customer service people tell you

Duke Energy lies to their customers. They tell the customers they can not credit their bill when the customer knows the meter has been read wrong. The person who is reading the meter is not reading them correctly and adjusting the usages. Duke energy refused to work with me. My condo unit was affected by the hurricanes and they refuse to help and reduce the bill. Duke Energy does NOT. Care about their customers. They only care about their money. They are taking advantage of customers during the outages that come during the hurricanes. Be aware of Duke Energy
