I have made several phone calls and emailed twice (the first email sent on October 3rd) to cancel my recurring subscription to Greenpeace over the past 5 months. Greenpeace has not completed my request nor contacted me regarding canceling my donation. I am continuing to contact them to try to get my donation canceled. They have charged my account 6 times since I requested the cancellation. I want a refund for all the times they have withdrawn from my account since I initially requested a cancellation.Initial Complaint

ON FRIDAY 01/27/2023 I WAS STOPPED BY 2 PEOPLE OUTSIDE A STORE (WHICH IS A REALLY TERRIBLE WAY OF GUILTING PEOPLE INTO STOPPING) AFTER WHICH I WAS VERY QUICKLY RAN THROUGH A SALES PITCH THAT SOUNDED LIKE THEY WERE JUST ASKING FOR $1 BUT TURNED INTO $1 A DAY FOR ***** MONTHS.I SAID I WOULD JUST DONATE $20 ONE TIME HONESTLY JUST TO GET OUT OF THERE. I WAS TOLD I WOULD GET AN EMAIL RIGHT AFTER WHERE I CAN MANAGE MY SUBSCRIPTION AND CANCEL. I DID NOT GET THAT EMAIL. SO I SENT AN EMAIL TO THEM SAYING I WANT TO CANCEL. I DIDNT GET A REPLY AND I HAVE NOW SENT 5 EMAILS WITH NO REPLIES. ITS FUNNY WHEN THEY SIGN YOU UP FOR THIS IT IS INSTANT BUT THEY ARE APPARENTLY MAKING IT VERY DIFFICULT TO CANCEL THE SUBSCRIPTION. I UNDERSTAND THEY ARE PLANTING TREES OR WHATEVER THEY ARE DOING BUT THEY ARE IMPLEMENTING SOME SHADY TACTICS TO GET PEOPLE TO SUBSCRIBE AND HONESTLY GAVE ME A VERY WEIRD VIBE. I REALLY JUST WANT TO GET MY SUBSCRIPTION CANCELLED.Business Response

Two young people were going door to door soliciting donations to Greenpeace. I clearly indicated that I was willing to make a ONE TIME donation but not an ongoing monthly donation. They indicated the only choice was to sign up for a monthly donation but that I would receive an email that would have a link that would allow me to manage my donation. I did not receive such an email. Note: they have my correct email address since I am receiving other emails from them now. When I phone their "Supporter Care team" phone number, no one ever answers. I have left messages, however no one returns my call. I have emailed them at multiple email addresses requesting they cancel my monthly donation. They have not acknowledged my emails. Greenpeace does accept one time donations on their web site. I believe Greenpeace's door to door solicitors are intentionally using the deceptive practice of signing people up for monthly donations and telling them that they will easily be able to manage their donation online and cancel at any time when they know that is not the case. I would like my monthly donation canceled. Greenpeace should be made to ensure that supporters can easily manage their donations. Greenpeace should be made to ensure that any third party agencies soliciting on their behalf do not use deceptive practices. Offers of ONE TIME donations should be accepted as just that.Business Response

In addition, we're always happy to help you manage your membership as we do not yet have a self-service portal. Accepting this response in that they have terminated my recurring monthly donation. However, the response did not address the two issues raised in the complaint. 1. Greenpeace must ensure that third parties soliciting on their behalf do so ethically. Specifically in this case, solicitors should not tell prospective contributors that they will be able to manage their donation online when that is not the case. I did see that there was a similar complaint filed months ago so this appears to be an ongoing issue. 2. Greenpeace must ensure that queries to ************ and *******@greenpeace.us are being handled. Over the course of a week, none of my three messages left at this phone number were returned, nor were either of my two emails to that id acknowledged.
