In March of 2023 I cancelled my Crunch membership because a family member of mine died and I had to relocate to a different state than I was living in and there are no Crunch gyms in the state Im residing in. My Crunch membership started again (without my approval) in December of 2023 and continues to try to keep charging me for the months that I havent attended. In order to cancel, again, the gym wants me to pay for December, January and now February and I have to physically be at the gym to sign a cancellation form. Im unable to physically be over ***** miles away to physically cancel the membership, in person and they will keep charging me monthly. *** tried several ways to resolve this issue and have had no luck. Im VERY frustrated with this company and dont believe this is a correct way of doing business!

      Good morning,

It does look like there was a mistake on our end. it appears there was a duplicate account that was not closed out. The account in question will be closed and all past *** invoices will be waived. This process may take 3-5 business days to complete.

This occured 12/13. I was charged for cancelling my account despite letting them know I was about to leave for military service. The woman I spoke to put in no notes despite saying she did. I brought supporting documents and they didn't want to see them. What's the point in paying for a service when I wouldn't be able to use it while I'm away in the Navy. I have the supporting documentation along with my DOD number ***********. I was released due to medical reasons.

      Complaint: 20727937

I am rejecting this response because:

it was cancelled in December as in walking in to the gym and cancelling it in person. They didn't add any notes of what I was leaving for. I left for military service. I told them I wouldn't be back in time to use the time left at the gym. Instead they charged me 80 something dollars. I left December 15th. I cancelled my account December 14th so I could still use the gym before I had to go.

It shouldn't be my problem that the associate couldn't explain why they didn't leave a note about it. It's extremely wrong.

      Sincerely,

      Good morning ******,

Sorry for the back and forth and apologies for the miscommunication and frustration.  If you could attach the documentation you referenced above, I'll gladly take a look and resolve for you.  Without official proof of military deployment (dates listed), the account will be left in it's current state (as the employee collected 30 day notice appropriately).  If you can supply that official documentation, I will gladly return the last two payments, as you correctly would not have owed them to us.  Sorry for the added step and inconvenience.

I signed up for pt training once a week for 30 min session and it was 114 dollars bi weekly, on nov 4 they charged me 114 and then on nov *********************** 342 dollars, which was 228 more then supposed to be, I went there and they assured me that I should get a refund within 10 days but its been two weeks and I havent seen nothing back in my account, so I called the gym and they are like oh we dont know when youll get your refund so I was very not happy with that response, its very unprofessional on their part, if you over charge a customer by hundreds of dollars and act like its not a priority to get my money back dosent sit right with me, so I just wanna get my refund of 228.

      Business Response

A total refund of $171 was processed on 12/7/2022 at 2:30 pm.  The agreement of $228 that was purchased has one session that was used leaving a total value of $171 to be refunded.  If there are any further questions please feel free reach out to us for assistance.

i should be getting a total of 228 back not 171, I signed up for bi weekly 114 for a total of 4 sessions, you charged me 114 on the 4th of November and you charged me 342 on nov 21 and now again on Nov 5 you charged me 114, I only attend to one 30 min session per week and the 342 dollar charge was supposed to be 114$  you guys overcharged me by 228$ so therefore I need a refund of 228 not 171.

      Business Response

      Good morning.

We have refunded the sessions you have remaining on your account.  It shows you completed sessions on 12/3 and 12/10 on the agreement that a total of $228 was collected.  So of the 4 sessions purchased 2 appear to have been used.  I will have a representative reach out to you Monday to review your agreement.

      Complaint: 18488139

I am rejecting this response because:

I had already started this complaint about a week ago and today I accidentally closed it, the original complaint was for when I signed up for pt training once per week 30 min sessions, billed bi weekly 114$ dollars, 58 dollars per session, on Nov 4 I got charged 114$ and on Nov 21 I got charged 342$ which is 228 more than supposed to be, I was told I would get a refund of 228 within 10 days, its been almost a month, someone did reach out to me on Saturday she said that they would refund me my 3rd installment of 114$ and not charge me the fourth installment so that way it ***** the balance out, I originally signed up for 8 total sessions totaling 456$, so being that I already paid that plus an extra 114$ on dec 5, so I have two sessions left that Im going to finish off and i wanna clarify that I will get the 114$ refund and not be charged anymore.

      Sincerely,

I actually cancelled the pt on 12/17 I attached a copy of the form, apparently the trainer made some mistake, and I received the original refund of 114$ on 12/20 but then you guys charged me on 1/3/23 114$ basically taking my refund back which is obv a mistake, I just need a confirmation that Im getting my refund of 114$ sometime soon.

I went into the club and requested a freeze on my account for the gym membership because I was going to be working in *************** for a few months and they do not have location there. They said all was good and that I missed the deadline for the next charge, but then after that it would kick in. Two months later, I noticed that I was charged for the membership fee. I called and asked what was going on and they told me that the freeze was denied. They didn't bother to call me to tell me and told me the reason it was denied is because only one freeze is allowed a year. I read through the contract entirely and that is not in there. Now I'm out of town and have to spend my hard earned money to put a letter in the mail to cancel the thing because they refuse to do it over the phone or honor the freeze.

      Business Response

      Date: 12/02/2022

We will remove any balance due and cancel the membership effective immediately.

Membership was opened and email was sent to cancel the membership. Membership was never cancelled and NO one ever contacted me to let me know it was not cancelled. Now it was sent to a collection's agency due to the company negligence.

I applied for a membership in the fall. The same week I found out I needed to relocate and left the state. When calling crunch the first time I found out I needed to keep it open for three months before canceling. Got through third months and put a hold on transactions as it needed to stop coming out. No changes, and kept getting attempts to charge. Offered to pay it if it would just close out, nothing and ended up being sent to collections. Shame. Had been a member previously years ago and wasn't a problem closing out the account. Should have never been sent to collections. Would meet half way if the business would call back and either leave a voicemail or return email inquiries.

Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2022/07/06) */ Member never submitted a cancellation request, therefore the account was never cancelled. In member's complaint, it is mentioned that he put a hold on transactions, which caused his account to go past due and ultimately into collections status. After reviewing the member's complaint and account, it is confirmed that the member is responsible for the past due balance. Consumer Response /* (3000, 7, 2022/07/07) */ (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) That is correct, the first I called I wanted it closed and had to wait till the 3 month mark before it could close. TO ensure the point got across that I wanted it closed I had holds put on the account. When I called a few months later I was told I would get a call back, and haven't heard anything since. While I shouldn't have to pay for services I never used at this point I'd work out a payment directly with the business if it's agreed it's removed from report and only then. Reason behind this is it should have been closed when asked. Like I put in my original complaint, would come to agreement and pay a balance despite request for closure first time if we can come to a resolution.

I sent the following letter attached to Crunch requesting a cancellation from October 2021. I made several attempts to get the membership cancelled in writing via email, as I did in 2020, to the correspondence email address, in which we communicate, but received no response. In December 2021, I called the gym asking about the status of my membership cancellation, and they told me I had to mail the cancellation request to Tampa. Before I could mail it, COVID happened and caused a disruption for myself and several of my family members. Therefore hindering me from getting to the post office to purchase a stamp and mail off this cancelation and refund request. In a time like this when COVID immobilizes people, this company didn't have any understanding of my case. I disputed the charges on my credit card and crunch failed to respond to the credit card company, and now I have an overdue balance on my account. I would like this balance to be zero.
