Cajun Underwrites was my homeowners insurance carrier. My insurance agent *** ********* terminated them them March 28, 2024, with my policy not expiring until May 5. 2024. I am due a refund and have been in touch with them since ***** requesting this. Last I was told on 8/14/2024 that a refund will be mailed out and I should expect it in 2 weeks. Today is 9/6/2024, with no refund. I am on the phone with them as I am typing and the agent said she doesn't see a refund is due and that I actually have an outstanding balance due with them, which is impossible since I terminated my insurance, via insurance agent *** *********, in March 2024 with my policy not set to expire until May 2024. I have been very patient with them and keep getting the run around.

Cajun Underwriters (CU) purchased my homeowners policy from ******** insurance because ******** went into receivership after hurricane ***.CU sent my lender a bill for over $10,000. The payment was received by them on 4/25. This has caused my escrow to be drained and I never agreed to renew with CU.I am requesting a refund immediately.

On April 5, 2023, the renewal packet with the declarations page and invoice were generated and mailed to the referenced insured for the term 05/10/2023 through 05/10/2024. Set as mortgagee bill, the renewal premium invoice in the amount of $10,439 was sent to the mortgage company we have listed on their account. On April 25, 2023, the renewal payment from the mortgage company was received in the form of a check payment. On April 28, 2022, we received a request from the insured to cancel the above listed policy due to placing coverage elsewhere. On May 1, 2023, our insured called to inquire on the refund, she was advised that due to fact that a check was used as a form of payment, to allow 10 business days from the time the cancellation was processed for the system to issue the refund. Our accounting department refund guideline stipulates that payments made by check whether it be from the mortgage company or the insured, take up to 10 days for the check to clear due to the potential of a stop payment being placed on the funds. Following that timeline, the refund was generated on May 5, 2023. As a courtesy to the insured, we sent the refund on May 5, 2023 overnight via ***** which was delivered on May 6, 2023 to the property address we have listed on the account. Our company also received a complaint from this insured filed with the ******************** of ********* on May 1, 2023 which is the avenue of communication that we have already provided this information to the insured.

On or about January 9, 2023, I received a letter from Cajun Underwriters requesting payment for homeowners insurance. The letter also stated an invoice had been sent for payment to the mortgage company. Now I know that offer for ******* is sent well in advance for homeowners insurance however, this company did not send a renewal letter and therefore I had no idea what the renewal cost would be. After receiving a payment invoice and noting the inflated cost amount I contact my mortgage company instructing them not to pay this premium because I had no intention on paying such a ridiculous amount. I also contact Cajun and informed them they did not have my permission to request payment for a policy I had not seen or approved. First of all, I dont know anything about this company. They assumed this policy from my insurance company after a receivership. I would like to cancel this policy immediately and refund monies to my mortgage company. They do not have my approval to issue this policy. As a consumer for many years, the insurance company will send out a renewal for the customer to review. This was not the case. Last year my policy was *****. This policy is issue for a whopping $10, ****** on a property with a mortgage balance less than $60,000. Furthermore I have no desire to do business with a company who practices price gouging.

This is in response to the referenced concerns mentioned. On January 4, 2023, a renewal offer was generated and mailed to the insured at their mailing address on file as well as an invoice that both reflected the annual issued premium of $10,294. This customer was previously insured with a carrier that has since gone insolvent and was assumed by our carrier through the receivership process. The issued renewal premium reflects the filed premiums for our carrier associated with the rating variables currently entered on the account. If any policy rating factors need to be reviewed, the customer can contact their agent of record that is listed on the declarations page or contact our customer service department at ************ to obtain this information. Our company did receive a phone call from the insured associated on this account on January 26, 2023, inquiring on how to cancel the policy. A representative on that date advised of our cancellation procedure. Due to not receiving a signed cancellation request, the policy has remained active due to payment in full being received from the payor on file on February 6, 2023. In order to cancel this policy, we do need a signed cancellation from the insured and if backdating the cancellation to the effective date of the offered renewal, we will also need a copy of the replacement coverage. Once the signed cancellation has been received and processed, a refund for any unearned premium will be sent to the insured at the mailing address on file within 10 to 14 business days of the processed date.
