My husband and I contacted Westfall Roofing as one of the 5 bids for our roof. Our roof was in decent shape, but had to be replaced in order to get new homeowners insurance. We met with ****- ************- and negotiated the terms of the roof and soffit. The work began in 8/2021 and a young crew that was largely unsupervised did the work. We were approached by **** about some debris over the garage. The wood was in good shape. The estimate should have included enough plywood to do the job. He adamantly wanted additional several hundred dollars to replace. We refused to pay additional monies, since no other alternative was presented to remove or deal with the undamaged plywood. The underlayment was placed over and the result is wavy. We are concerned that the seal is not good and that the warranty will not be honored. The roof shingles at the edges began to cup at the edges approximately 1-1 1/2 years later and after some calls and aggravation, someone came out. A partial repair was done at this time. I called prior to 7/16 because I noticed a brown spot on the bedroom ceiling and wanted the roof checked. ******* came out took pictures, inspected the roof, and stated that someone from management would call. It has been over a week and nobody has contacted me from Westfall. The roof does not look or function like a new roof. We appreciate your assistance.

This roof was installed in 2021 to Florida code and passed all inspections. The homeowner called us back to repair the fish mouthing or waviness on the perimeter of the home in 2023, which we completed at no charge. The homeowner called again in July 2024 showing a stain inside her home through the ceiling dry wall. My technician noted that the stain was old and not an active leak. Nothing is wrong with her roof. The wavy look occurs due to us having to bring the roof up to current building code due to re-nailing the deck. There are instances where the re-nailed roof deck can telegraph through a roof. Over time, asphalt shingles will lay down and form to the contour of the deck. I can provide photos or additional details if needed.

I am rejecting this response because:  The information from Westfall is totally inaccurate. The deck was wavy due to debris left on the roof at the time of initial installation. **** was our initial contact, which was also in my initial communication. The underlayment was installed over it, as I explained before. Repairs after installation did occur after some persistence on my part. I still have received no response from the recent request and photo taken by *******, who was sent out from Westfall Roofing weeks ago. The business response was unacceptable and inaccurate. We appreciate assistance in this matter.

      Sincerely,

Here are photographs taken after the recent storm. One is the hall closet ceiling and the other two are in the bedroom ceilings. The roof issues that have been denied by Westfall need to be acknowledged and addressed. Westfall has not contacted me after the inspection, which was at least three weeks ago.

      Business response

      08/12/2024

These photos are not definitive of an active roof leak. They could be old stains or not from the roof at all. I can have a manager come out to assess again and go into the attic, which is how we could determine if it's an active or old leak. If the customer would like that, please let us know.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and find that this communication is satisfactory to me.
Please send someone who is willing to do a thorough roof assessment and offer a reasonable solution immediately, in a non patronizing manner. My phone number is: ************. Acceptance of this communication indicates that we will be contacted by Westfall for a professional evaluation. We just received this response on 8/20. The original email had to be resent from the BBB, after I called to inquire. I appreciate your intervention.

Date of transaction : 2/22/2022 Amount of money payed : ********* What was promised to me : A complete roof replacement due to hurricane Ian ************* of dispute : Uncompleted Work Resolved attempt by business? No. Manager came out and handed another bill for additional funds to complete the uncompleted roof.Receipt Number Final : Invoice ***** The team had arrived and quoted me for both roofs on my property, ***************** as well as 530 *****************. Both quotes were presented in the same manner, as "entire roof replacement", however only the home at ****************************** received the "entire" roof including the soffit. The workers dissapeared for several months, after telling me they would return 1-2 weeks later. I finally got a manager to show up and look at the unfinished job. He told me he'd do what he could, walked around and handed me another invoice for $8,000+ MORE to come and finish the rest of the job. Nothing in fine print or contractual stated that they would only complete soffit on one home and not the other. I am extremely dissapointed and feeling very scammed out of my hard earned money. I chose ******* based on reading reviews, but I didn't get to the ones that mention they like to venture off to other jobs and return with more invoice requests to the customer. ************* type of companies give me this feeling. I write this to express my extreme displeasure of the transaction, and I would like this to be propertly addressed by a company administrator or BBB representative promptly. I can be reached anytime by cell, ******************. I am an elderly woman in her 70's, after talking with SEVERAL well respected colleagues in the trade, I was absolutely strong-armed into paying a bill with unfinished work. Westfall Roofing was an absolute disappointment the reviews do not reflect the Integrity of the company. The workers left early and came late.
They stepped on and destroyed several of my plants around my house
they cut the wire for electricity in my master bedroom
they took out the soffit around my house and had it thrown on the ground everywhere.
It took two weeks for them to complete the job.
I had to call the owner of the company in order to get the workers on task.
At the end of the job an individual came to my home and wanted to charge me an additional $5,000
because they removed the soffit from the roof and wanted me to pay for the labor to reinstall it.
There was a leak in my roof which caused water to come into my home. Mildew formed on my carpet.
The company that was hired to clean my carpet failed to show up four times.
Westfall Roofing is overpriced and has lazy employees. Their line of communication is totally unacceptable.
Buyer beware. There are better companies with less complications that can do the job.
***** Corning has other certified companies in ***** that can do the job.

      Complaint: 19954372

I am rejecting this response. I request that the company forbid **** from entering my property furthermore, and to send another educated honest supervisor from the company to reassess what has happened, and provide further plans on how they will complete my crapshoot of a "full roof". I'd like you to give me a fair and completed job as we had no issues agreeing on at my other property. ****** and ****** never mentioned to me in either quote about the ************************************************* asked for "Everything". **** said it included everything, knowing I wouldn't question it, or know the terminology in his sneak contract. When I asked for "Everything" for 350 I got just that. "We can't do it for free" Isn't much of a satisfactory or problem solving ethic in my eyes and they are going to fight this tooth and nail I'm sure and deny deny deny. That's not showing appreciation nor loyalty towards repeat a customer with their hard earned $100,000 in your possession. I hope we can reach a satisfactory agreement between the two of us to fix what **** has caused.

After hurricane ******** contacted westfall again. I requested an entire roof replacement quote on my badly damaged roof for my **************** property. They had completed the job at my ****************************** property, being the exact same request as that of ***************** - an entire roof replacement months prior. (Including fascia and soffit.)

The quote I received for *********************************** for the exact same thing done at ****************************** is where the tricks start. I mistakenly agreed to this contract due to my lack of construction knowledge and terminology relating. **** spoke all of this to me so quickly and wanted to get my signature as fast as possible I recall, or the work might take even longer to get started. My entire experience dealing with **** and ******* during payment processing and quoting was extremely pressured with an or else it might not work out feeling during each transaction or interaction.

**** being the sneaky sly business man he is, slid in the fine print on the contract proposal, Carports being removed to fascia line of pitched roof and new fascia installed by separate contractor
That statement is a compete lie and fabrication attempt to cover the bait and switch tactic I can now see that they often use on many other unsuspecting buyers. My research of similar experience and request for additional funds brings back results of all women writing the reviews, with ****'s name mentioned in many. I had shared with **** that my husband had passed away recently and was really relying on him and his honesty to help guide me in this stressful time post hurricane ***. He was extremely reassuring and ****** confident that everything would work out PERFECT, and then I signed. I couldn't have made myself an easier target by sharing this information with what I thought was an honest business man.

I never had, nor do have another contractor, or spoke of any plans to remove carports with ****. I am not construction minded, and my properties were in shambles at the time. I am a 74 year old woman, I had no construction plans. Only a destroyed roof and some landscaping cleanup. I was lucky to figure out how to call ******* and buy a roof. I solely relied on this companies honesty. The biggest kicker of ****'s fraudulent note is that the carport's **** mentioned, were never standing during Westfals time spent working on the property. They were removed long ago when I purchased the property. I'm not sure of how that even entered into his scope of work at all, being an irrelevant topic which would explain my frustration.

It appears that this was the plant of the bait to try and accumulate an additional $9,000 out of the job from a 74 year old foreign woman who knows no better. **** and his assorted non-english speaking crews would arrive, working for a couple of day increments and leave for weeks at a time again before I was forced to call and demand management for them to return numerous times with my $20,000 deposit in their bank already. **** and his crew packed up and left one day after finishing the red top of the roof, promising to return to finish the fascia and soffit job as they caught up and figured out delays.

Weeks and weeks went by again, before I called and asked what had happened to my roofing crew. I was instantly treated like I was trying to be dishonest with them and that they had no clue what I was talking about. ******* read the notes that **** had placed above and that another contractor was completing the job. I asked ******* when the contractor would be here and who it was. She placed me on hold and got back on the phone in extreme denial and anger in her voice at anything I would say, as if playing defense for the crew. After expressing my anger she told me to rest assured, they'd sent out a manager to check on the concern. *** and behold the man himself, **** appeared while I was in an appointment and unable to get to the property. (Failure to notify me of proper arrival time by **** like requested)
My tenant at the property watched **** hop out of his truck, light up multiple cigarettes while aimlessly walking around laughing and talking on his cellphone. My tenant asked **** why the soffit wasn't completed during the roof install like the other house on the property? **** stated to my tenant that he briefly remembered that ****** didn't know what she wanted to do with the house, that she was thinking of selling or something like that followed by blushing nervousness and shrugging. He left very quickly after questioned by my tenant, as if caught and not expecting a male with construction knowledge to question his work.

Later that evening, ******* presented me with another invoice for nearly $9,000 to complete the rest of the incomplete full roof replacement (soffit and fascia). I had other parties look over my 2 contracts and quotes/payments to ensure I am not overlooking anything. This is what is called financial dishonesty. I was prepared to pay any price they presented me with at the time because of my poor knowledge on the topic. If they needed an additional $9,000 for my roof that should have been boldly stated and explained to me that I would not be getting the same job I requested at ******************************* I asked for the exact same replacement to be done. **** knew that I wouldn't know the difference or catch that fine note in the contract, and he succeeded until it was brought to my attention time and time again.

Upon doing some research of their reviews, I found that many of the same complaints and ****** and hyde business tactics that I experienced - other customers that used Westfall have experienced as well. The majority of the poor reviews, per ****** and BBB / Yelp are women being requested more funds of to complete incomplete work done by the company prior, with nothing but denial and refusal/job abandonment. This is extremely alarming and needs to be audited.

We have completed several projects for this customer.
Several corrected to 2**** projects, only 1 of them (350 *****************.) being completed.
After Hurricane ***, we completed a ************** for her that included new fascia and soffit, in addition to the roof.
When I called and requested a quote for the entire roof replacement, I was given that - an entire replacement quote. Without batting an eye I gave approval. When replacing an entire roof, soffit and fascia would be part of the quote, especially given the condition of the hurricane damage existing. The long list of ******* roofing contractors I've called and spent hours on the phone with and in person agree entirely, and advise that I have been fished by poor business morals.

This prompted her to want fascia and soffit done on the previous project.
Bold of a company to just go ahead and state what it is that they feel prompted me to want the standard statewide fascia and soffit done on the incompleted job. After all, that's what I had requested to be done in the first place. An ENTIRE roof replacement, as the hurricane shredded it to pieces. Not of a roof, not 5/8, ENTIRE. Exact same condition as 350 ***************** roof was in, yet I received soffit and fascia without any special mention on that home?
**** had hoped he could bait and switch that part from me, by becoming aware of my lack of knowledge on standards in ******* and succeeded. Roofing calculators and 3rd party contractor opinions reflect this statement very clear and obvious.

At the time of the original project, we offered and quoted this service, but she elected to have only the shed's soffit and fascia replaced.
Yikes , yet again another attempt at covering up their prized bait and switch and denial of responsibility and ethic. Please see the attached 3 documents/quotes and note that you will not see the soffit and fascia of the ***************** house mentioned in ****'s quote anywhere, only the shed. Later that day, the second quote sent to me shows the removal of the **** system that was absolutely required?, for the job, followed with ****'s made up note in small text on the flat notes section about me having plans on removing carports that weren't even there, followed by having another contractor finish the job.

We're happy to complete the work, but we cannot do it for free.
Nice right? Failure to even second look at their mistaken false information regarding their bad business tactic. No contact of me to reach out and offer to look into it, nothing. To that, shame on your business, it speaks volumes of your true ethics and what your company goal really is.

We can not do it for free - I was unhappily forced to wire your company $100,000+ between 2 very simple roofing projects in the same years time that you strong armed an elderly woman on. It doesn't sound as if you're willing to admit or comply honestly or ethically, and come complete the unfinished fraudulent job I'm left to deal with as you didn't leave any kind of helpful or reach out reply. Only denial. I'm now bringing light to my poor roofing job and treatment to further attention and matters. I hope you'll stop preying on and taking advantage of innocent buyers / non construction minded individuals during their times of need and distress.

****Reviews below from Yelp/Google of Westfalls media pages that state EXACTLY the tactic that was used on me that happened to others too. Note how the reviews mentioned are women that have been taken advantage of and conned by this company.

If you are considering replacing your roof, DO NOT USE WESTFALL ROOFING.  I cannot say this enough.  If I could go back and use ANY other company in the Tampa Bay area, I would.  We are not difficult people to work with, but when we pay a lot of money for a job we expect it to be done right.
When we first got an estimate with Westfall they seemed professional and reasonable.  Boy, did they fool us.  After completing the job, and not contacting us with any changes
(or getting our permission for anything) during the job process they tried to charge us $4,000 more than our estimate.
Then, we had to have them come out THREE additional times for water damage that showed up on our ceiling.
Two supervisors came out and spent 3+ hours on our roof attempting to fix the issue.
After the latest storm, we had the largest water stain yet. We are selling our home and needed the issue to be addressed quickly.
They claimed the newest water damage wasn't from the roof and after arguing with the owner's brother **** for what felt like hours,
he proceeded to say "you could just do what the people who lived here before did to you and just paint over it."
GREAT advice.  I can see where your company stands when it comes to ethics.

It's sad to read her complaint. We had a great rapport with this customer (she's a repeat customer, so that action alone would indicate she liked us enough to get another roof done). She would call my production manager on her cell all the time, at odd hours because she traveled a lot. Even on the weekends, and we would pick up. This is the person she said got "angry" with her. (I've worked with this individual for 7 years. That's not her nature.) ****, whom she doesn't want on her property, has worked with us for over 5 years. Again, not the character of this person as she describes. This is an unfortunate situtation of misunderstanding. We have provided the quote to go back and replace her soffit and fascia on the her first roof we did. We cannot provide this service for free. Not sure where else to go from here.

I am rejecting this response because:

      Good day everyone.

First of all, I'll inform all readers about my ******************* whom we're their client for years, turned their back on me 2 months before *************************** The reason was, I forgot to pay my 1 month premium.  Allstate notify me thru emails not using word Allstate but the name of their agent.  They knew that I'm use to hard copy notification thru mails which I'm which I expect every month.  Computer is not my forte and my banks knows that too that is why, they always send me hard copies for my files. In short, I have no insurance to cover up some of my expenses fixing the damages on my properties.  It's all pulled out of my pocket.

Now we talked about Westful Roofing.  Yes, I became their "repeat customer" they said, hoping they'll be true to their words.  Not because I liked them but because **** promised to fix my problems in **** property after the 350 property roofing is done.  After it's done and they billed me, I paid, then I waited for the **** promise.  That's started my calls to **********************  Had they done their job correctly in my property, they won't hear any call from me.  When a customer calls, it's always about problem of their work.  Discontentment in short.  Yes, **** called me when I'm on vacation in *************** to my family whom I didn't see for 4 years.  Yes, he did check on my property after that call.  It's not a review but a quote was sent to me again.  **** cannot even answer the question of my handyman Bill why they won't fix the problem but instead put the blame on me.

My *********************** property's roof was done by RIGHT WAY ROOFING, represented by *********************, a gentleman.  We don't have a problem because when I asked for soffit and fascia, they installed it without any word. It's done immediately.  God bless to Right Way Roofing and **********************

To argue with WESTFUL ROOFING, WILL ONLY ADD to my SORROWS after I lost my husband more than a year ago then my properties, my only hope for survival, were hit by hurricane *******  If their business goes down, they should not use innocent people for them to boom back up.  KARMA is always around us.

Our roof was replaced on February 14th and 15th 2022 (our home was build ****, so the roof was 17 years old. It DID NOT have any leeks or problems before). We paid to Westfall $21,090 on March 1,2022. Couple months after the roof replacement and when summer rains were daily I noticed that our wood floor in dining room had water damage. I had two handymans checking on a damage and was told that the water is coming from a roof joint - not from windows or wall.I contacted Westfall in August 2022 and got their supervisor to finally come see the damage. My husband and I found the exact point of the leak and Westfall repaired the leak on 10/22/2022. A week later we still had supervisors and the owner coming up. The owner offered us $3000 for replacing the wood floor. We declined the offer and just wanted him to hire a company to fix it. After that we have NOT heard anything. I have emailed the company again January 12,2023 and called in the end of the January and today April 14,2023. Today I was told that the owner will call us back next week. Our daughter has known mold allergy and we will start conducting mold testing next. There is water damage also on the wall and we were originally ready to dismiss that and just wanted the floor repaired.

Westfall roofing replaced our entire roof in June 2022. Recently our dryer started smoking and we had a service inspector come to the property to see see why potential fire occured. They discovered that whilst Westfall was installing the roof they blocked the venting shaft which led to our dryer catching on fire. The inspector advised us to contact Westfall, we have video, photographs and written statements regarding the issue and will be contact a lawyer. We are seeking reimbursement for the lint removal ***** and the cost of having to purchase a new dryer due to Westfall's negligence. (USD *******)

However, BBB does not verify the accuracy of information provided by third parties, and does not guarantee the accuracy of any information in Business Profiles.

When considering complaint information, please take into account the company's size and volume of transactions, and understand that the nature of complaints and a firm's responses to them are often more important than the number of complaints.

BBB Business Profiles generally cover a three-year reporting period. BBB Business Profiles are subject to change at any time. If you choose to do business with this business, please let the business know that you contacted BBB for a BBB Business Profile.

As a matter of policy, BBB does not endorse any product, service or business. Businesses are under no obligation to seek BBB accreditation, and some businesses are not accredited because they have not sought BBB accreditation.
