On October 31, 2022, we contracted with Grunt Handyman Services (GHS) to replace a limited area of vinyl siding, soffit, side & door that had been damaged by Hurricane ***. The contract price was $6,477, & you required a 50% deposit of $3,238.50 which we paid on that date. Contracted work was to be promptly started and completed, & Sec. 489.126(2)(a)(1) requires your building permit application to be submitted within 30 days of receiving our 50% deposit. Sometime in January 2023, we began calling you because no work had started beyond Tyvex house wrap being applied to the area where the vinyl siding had been damaged by Hurricane ***. You also took away & disposed of siding. When you finally returned our calls, you told us the vinyl siding was no longer available and our only option was to significantly expand the work by removing all of our vinyl siding and replacing it with a ****** cement board product. We have since discovered that vinyl siding has been available & that expanding the work was completely unnecessary. Your willful misrepresentation caused our undamaged vinyl siding to be removed & has increased our financial damages beyond our paid $3,238.50 deposit. You eventually removed all of our vinyl siding & covered the new work areas with Tyvex house wrap. No further work has been done. You have again repeatedly failed to return most our several telephone calls. Your latest false promise was to meet with us on the morning of March 8, 2023, which you failed to do. On March 11, GHS received a letter of contract termination & a demand for the return of deposit of $3,238.50. GHS defaulted on contract pursuant to Title XXXII, Sec. *******, ** Statutes. Default reasons: abandoning the work, willfully misrepresenting that vinyl siding was unavailable, falsely promising to promptly complete the work, failing to obtain a building permit. Also, contract does not comply with Sec. ********. Need full deposit return to pay for expanded scope of work caused by GHS.Initial Complaint

Hired this man in Oct to repair the lanai roof. Very shoddy work and poor work ethics. I had to inspect his work and found numerous flaws that were pointed out to him. The roof continued to leak because he did not remove the adhesive backing on the underlayment and failed to seal it so water would not get through. He failed to follow my instructions to seal the gaps and holes in the lanai roof, that I ended up doing! The work ethic is one to cut corners where he can. He seldom arrived on the promised time and sometimes never. Always had an excuse. His ability to do drywall is poor, he failed to use tape on the seams and was unable to sand it to blend with the original. I asked for a contractors # and he refused. A roof job requires a contractor license and permits. He did neither. This case has been referred to the **** of business professions and is pending resolution. I told him I would report him, he said go ahead.Initial Complaint

My ******************** & *************************) live in ******, *************************************** lives next door at **************************. In December 2021, ******* went over to their home, both who are almost 90 & vulnerable, and he told them he could order new sliding glass doors for them. He stated that he worked for PGT, could order them at cost, and it would save them money. On December 7, 2021 my ************ wrote a $7,000 check to Grunt Handyman Services. Months roll by & no doors were delivered. ******* kept giving them excuses that they were "on back order" & would be coming in soon. It wasn't until we personally discovered this on Aug 5, 2022 that everything came to light. *************************** was working for *** in ******, *******. We discovered the cleared check to *************************** verified that no new doors had been delivered. We called PGT and asked them if ******* had ordered any sliding doors; which they confirmed he HAD NOT ORDERED. It is also against their policy to use your "at cost" discount unless it is for your own family. ******************************** aunt/uncle are not related. PGT has terminated *************************** as an employee for violating their rules. That day, he went over to my ************'s home asking if they had called the company & put in a complaint. My aunt/uncle asked for their $7,000 back that he took and used for his own spending. *************************** stated that he needed a couple weeks to get the money back to them, however no money has been paid back. He and his wife are over at my aunt/uncles' house daily for hours, they continue to take money from my aunt/uncle and based on this major incident of where he took $7,000 under false pretenses, I am very concerned about his intensions. He has also physically stolen items from neighbors home while doing work at Grunt Handyman Services. *************************** took advantage of my aunt/uncle and their advanced age. He and his wife are grooming them and taking their money.Business response

If **************** can provide documentation that can be verified that he repaid the $7,000 to my ************* I will be willing to close this complaint.Business response

All she has to do is call her Aunt and Uncle and they will confirm they received the moneyCustomer response

I am rejecting this response because: My issue is with *************************** & his company and his actions that took my familys money and never ordered the doors. His response to ask my aunt & uncle to verify the money is paid back is absolutely not acceptable to me. It is NOT THEIR burden to defend or prove or verify the money is paid back. My complaint is against *************************** & his company and it will be *************************** and his company that will prove to me that the $7,000 has been repaid. If *************************** and/or his company does not prove to me the money was paid by a cancelled check or documents where I can verify other than word of mouth, I will not close this complaint. I also want proof (documents, etc) that the doors were ordered since that is the story that continues to be told to my aunt & uncle.
Sincerely,
***************************Business response

I dont see where it is a burden on her Aunt and Uncle. I have repaid the *******. I have even sent a copy of the canceled check to the BBB. I refuse to send her a copy of the canceled check. Her Aunt and Uncle has stated to me several times recently that all she has to do is call and they will verify that the money has been returned to them. Not so sure she is willing to do that or has their best interest at heart as they have stated to me several times.Customer response

Complaint: 17895717
I am rejecting this response because: I have made it abundantly clear that until I see proof that the $7,000 was paid back, I will not close out this complaint. There was dishonesty from the get go from Grunt Handyman to my aunt & uncle in relation to saying doors were ordered & they werent; as well as keeping the money & not returning it until we began to create a stink about it. Therefore, I cannot trust their word that this was repaid. With that being said, I do not care who shows me the proof of the cancelled check; whether it is Grunt Handyman or the BBB. If it were my company & I repaid a debt, I would be more than willing to show proof. From my perspective, not willing to prove it shows that either the money was not paid back or that they do not care about a BBB complaint against them, or both. I would like to add that the family will continue to pursue this since Grunt Handyman is implying we arent looking out for Mr/**************** best interestwhen in fact thats exactly what we are doing by discovering and rectifying a situation where they were financially taken advantage of by a company that is unwilling or unable to prove theyve made it right. This is not how a reputable business owner runs a business. They dont take money and never deliver a product/service or violate their companys discount policy (as he did) and they dont refuse to appease the victims family that is asking for verification that he repaid what was taken under false pretenses.
Sincerely,
***************************
